Probably that he was created in a lab as a Soviet weapon of last resort to destroy the world in the event of the collapse of socialism to deny the capitalists their ultimate victory

Communism. Socialism is here to stay.

    heh

i'm playing through World in Conflict again, the soviets all refer to their own ideology as "Socialisim" in that game

    i guess it stuck :P

such a good game though, in spite of the fact they chose the Leopard as the NATO heavy tank instead of the Challenger which is clearly the superior choice *cough*

Nazi seems to have become the label for generic fascist

    and they weren't generic fascists

they had quite a lot of their own bullshit in there too like the Aryan purity angle

on that basis alone I'd honestly estimate that 9/10 people who self identify as Nazis today would have been lined up for the the gas chambers by real Nazis

Southern Neo-Nazis probably would have gotten on well with Hitler. Hitler was a big fan of segregation, and also explicitly planned the Aryan colonization (and elimination of the natives) in Eastern Europe on the model of the United States' Westward expansion and elimination of the native Americans.

he may have liked their ideas, but he would probably have found their ethnic heritage unsuitable for membership of his thousand year reich

having said that, he supposedly liked the British, which is odd, because as white people go we're about as mongrel as they come, these islands have been invaded and occupied and it's people interbred by so many different invading groups over the last few millennia we cannot at all claim any sort of "ethnic purity" as Nazis would define it

I guess holding Nazis to their own standards is pointless, the ones from the 40’s were as full of shit as the ones today are

While the British are super mongrels they were all 'good stuff' in Hitler's eyes; Scandinavians, Germans and Celts are all fine.

They made that sort of point because insisting on purity would see about 2/3rds plus of germans being unacceptable as well.

When they were busy trying to fill up all that Lebensraum they really had to stretch their definition of "German". If I recall correctly the Völk were happy being "cramped" in the rich and well developed west.

well there are probably a few reasons the game went with the leopard

    1) the challenger is not outwardly distinctive from the American Abrams to the untrained eye
    2) i could be wrong about the Challenger 1 being in service in 1989 when the game takes place
    3) they had to mix up the nationalities of the NATO units as much as possible and the French already had the infantry, the Italians the air support, the light, medium and repair tanks were British which only left the heavies for the Germans

    Völk? :stuck_out_tongue:

It's a stretch anyway. The Prussians, which were ment to be the most "German" Germans, are a blend of Slavs and Germans anyway.

Even as a heavy tank, the Leo 2 is still build for speed, is what I meant. The challanger is much more what you'd expect of a heavy tank.

Dagnabbit I could have sworn it had an umlaut. I am fail. :(

But my point stands: There wasn't much actual investment from Germany proper in the lands beyond Poland, basically because there was no money in it, so to fill the numbers for economic and political purposes they had to find people with maybe one German great grandparent, or whose ancestors kicked it in Brandenburg centuries ago. And could say "ja".

Jake that is great. He was brilliant in the ten minute short. There are also rumours of a
    new Master being cast.

The Peter Davison Five(ish) Doctors thingy with him, McCoy and Baker amply demonstrated why none of them are really suitable for reappearances any more, but McGann seems ageless.

I have kind of been on and off and on-board again with Moffat's epoch, which I think will be remembered as a wildly inconstant one, but I am happy in a completely unqualified way with how he's kind of gently reintroduced the whole scope of the show's mythology.

Davies' stripped-down, just the basics approach made perfect sense in the context of intorducing it to a new audience, but then you read his book and it turns out he just didn't want to do multi-Doctor stories because he thought they emphasized the actors too much, or he wanted to be rid of the Time Lords because he doesn't like authoritarian dad figures and I was kind of like "hrm."

Plus it just feels nice because McGann clearly got the rawest deal of any of the actor.

Well, all those Ashkenaz Jews in Eastern Europe could've helped, but...

Yeah, it's Volk (see Volkswagen). Perhaps you were thinking of "völkisch", but that word isn't used anymore since it's heavy use in Nazi racial propaganda (see "Völkischer Beobachter" for instance).
Where you still get the Umlaut is in pluralized words like "Völkerrecht".
