This is your (all of youse) daily reminder to purchase and play Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall as soon as possible.

It is a terrific RPG with some very good character writing and - pleasingly - a strong sense of atmosphere. I don't often feel afraid in a game where I control little mans from an isometric point of view, but I did here.

I still have to finish the main game

I liked the main game a lot but this is next level shiz

    longer, meatier, deeper

    um

    got it

There was only one FPS Shadowrun game.

it wasn't bad i didn't think. had some neat mechanics and the roles were pretty cool. also it was cross-console/ pc play

but it was an early attempt at mp-only and also because it was in the shadow run franchise the rpg fans felt betrayed and shat all over it for not being an rpg

And by "all games", well I should have said "all the video games".

I knew, at least, that the video game stuff was fairly recent compared to the tabletop stuff.

wait shadowrun isn't an fps franchise?

it is a table top RPG that was made into a graphical adventure game for the SNES, an RPG for the Genesis, an animated visual novel/RPG thing for IIRC the Sega Saturn, and yeah an FPS for Xbox.

The new game is an oldschool isometric tactical RPG like Fallout.

yes this is the right way to do up beans and rice

did you start with a mirepoix or sofrito or trinity or something? that is good too

    @Abdhyius‌

    Oh damn.

Sofrito would have been a good idea I didn't think of that. I was thinking of doing a trinity mix originally but I wasn't in the mood for the celery and I couldn't think of another good idea.

But sofrito... that's what I'm doing next time. Thanks!

So my mum works as head of a special needs centre for kids with MLD's within a school. So kids struggling with normal school get sent there, and if they actually have SLD's they get sent on to a super specialist school. So one of my mums unofficial jobs is to tell parents that their 8 year old kid is never ever going to fit in society and will need care for the rest of their lives. That it is worse than they thought. She has three of these talks to give this week. I think I understand why she drinks so much now.

In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god’s blessing. But because, I am enlightened by my intelligence.

Guys my wife is having a problem with a thing at work and I do not know Excel or database stuff because I am dumb. Can you answer this possibly?
Our department has around 160 spreadsheets uploaded to various directories on sharepoint - more are added sporadically as new projects come through each month. Each spreadsheet is updated by users at various times in the month.

There are column names going from A to AA. The column types are varied; dates, dollar amounts, a comments field, y/n field, etc. Several of the columns contain formulas. Each spreadsheet is populated with a varying number of rows. Some have only 1 row, a few have as many as 5k, but the average is probably under 200 rows.

I need to be able to pull the rows with data in them from all 160(ish) spreadsheets in to one source so that reports can be created based on the most up to date data. I’m limited to using excel and access. The varying number of rows makes excel problematic, at least with what I know about excel. I don’t have much experience doing linked tables in access so I’m not sure if that could even work with the large number of sources.

What would be the best way to combine the data in to one source?

Ok, I can totes help with this, but I do need some basic questions answered.

    1) Is the data expected to be "live" in that if someone updates a spreadsheet, a quick and easy report needs to be generated across all 160 with said updated data?

    2) are the 160 spreadsheets in static locations that can all be easily referenced over the network by a single account?

3a) Is there any need to relate these tables to each other in a one-to-many fashion? Like, for instance
--- Spreadsheet A has a listing of all clients, and further info regarding the client
----Spreadsheets B-C have a column for the client name, and then individual contracts for said client(s)
----Spreadsheet D has a completely different set of info that relates to the client, but is not contract related per se... like expenses.
And you would need a report with the sum of contract info per client along with relevant expenses?

3b) id 3a is true, are the client names spelled / typed exactly the same on all spreadsheets enough that they could be used as a key?

If all of this is true, you can link a shitload of excel spreadsheets in access, set up a quick and dirty schema to relate these spreadsheets, use the query wizard to build you SQL in a GUI like a mini-boss, and then tie the query to a report.

As spreadsheets are updated by other staffers, all you would need to do is open access, run the report, and print it while doing a sick backflip or something because people will think you are a goddamned wizard. Tell them it took you hours, even though it takes you 1-2 minutes.

    @Ludious‌

Thanks @syndalis I passed the questions onto her. I will reply when she does.

How does the mechanical side of shadowrun returns hold up compared to say x-com eu?
It's weaker, strategically, but not without depth of its own.

You can brute force your way through missions with guys decked out with weapons and shiz, or you can have an evened out party with some utility for doing different stuff (decking, rigging, magery, etc.)

The cover/LoS system can be a bit of a mess though.

But Dragonfall makes up for all that with good writing and characterisation and a pretty damn cool plot.

...and of course, as always, Kill Hitler.

It pulls a lot from the tabletop game. Characters on the field tend to be more durable but not much more so compared to xcom. Your character is typically significantly stronger than your allies and your enemies. Some combat can also be avoided or mitigated through various methods.

How does the mechanical side of shadowrun returns hold up compared to say x-com eu?

Well, it was originally intended as an iOS-only portable app game for funsies, and then the Kickstarter raised way more money than the developers had intended so they ported it to PC and added a ton of features.

So it's somewhat simplified and streamlined compared to something like XCOM. There's no destroyable terrain or anything of that nature, and the areas tend to be smaller. On the other hand since it's a traditional RPG character advancement is pretty robust and customizable - you can be good with guns, good with melee, good with magical melee, a D&D-type spellcaster, a spirit summoner, a hacker (in which case you spend much of your time in the Matrix), or a "rigger," which is a dude who uses drones and unmanned vehicles in combat.
