edited March 2014 in Pinny Arcade
Was discussed in the community thread, but I figured it would be a good idea to have an announcement thread like this for anyone who might have missed the memo. I dont know what i would....er...what the BRAIN SQUIRRELS would do if I missed out on a pin release.

https://kickstarter.com/projects/1212663429/table-titans-volume-1-first-encounters

Scott Kurtz of PVP Online / Table Titans fame now has a kickstarter for Table Titans Volume 1. The pinny arcade pin reward is included at the $100 tier and above.

Well It reached its goal of $30,000, NEW PIN!!!! "Backed exclusively by pinny pals" lol

  • DarthMonachusDarthMonachus Doctor Hershey, PARegistered User regular
Right now it looks like there are already 103 backers at the $100 or above level getting the pin (myself included  ). It'll be interesting to see how many end up getting it by the end. Maybe this one will not be as rare as DLC?

  • grgemonkeygrgemonkey Registered User regular
I think it's quite interesting that knowing of the DLC, $100 is still simply too much for the majority of people to drop down. I suppose it helps a lot if you actually want the book and other goodies, the price of the pin isn't $100 then.

That or everyone is waiting till 1hr left, see what the $100 number is at and then funding at that level if it seems the pin will be rare :) But then you'll all be inflating the number right at the end hehe

It won't be as rare as the DLC. I posted it in the community thread but Scott said that he ordered the minimum number PA would allow. I'm assuming this will mean 1000 since that is what Strip search, rayman, Pigglesworth and ChainsawSuit were. He said any leftover would be given away at East(and Prime if he still had them).

  • TheAggroCraigTheAggroCraig Ultimate Lucky Douchebag MassachusettsRegistered User regular
Wouldn't the minimum be 300? I mean that's what the number for the DLC pin is...

As of now there's only a little over 100 pins accounted for, and I doubt a ton more people will be going for our insane brain squirrel tier...

  • 00Fayt0000Fayt00 Registered User regular
I don't think that PA would let someone buy that few...but it IS possible. I think that Pedro is going to ask their minimum order at the game store this weekend.

  • grgemonkeygrgemonkey Registered User regular
I think it might be less than a 1000, that seems to be a number for PAXs because of expected high foot traffic, it seemed to be a good number too, not many pins had left overs. I don't think that's the lowest order possible but we shall see I guess.

Personally I feel like getting rid of (at this time) ~900 extras for easy trades or cheap money while the dedicated backers spent $100 would be really quite a kick in the face. This should really be more like, a handful of people get super lucky for being dedicated to getting to Scott ASAP at PAX and score the pin for their effort in this regard. Otherwise this wouldn't gel with me and seriously put me off backing KS pins at all, as they are very very expensive.

keep in mind $100 isn't for the pin on its own. The tier below is $80 which basically makes the pin worth $20, roughly the usual selling price for a limited edition pin

I also think DLC's 'perceived' rarity is also due to the fact pinny arcade had basically just started (i think the kickstarter went up before EAST 2013, I definitely received it in the mail before my east pins) and the initial $150 tier-for-pin made it seem like it was too expensive to buy / only for the hardest of hardcore collectors.

I definitely wouldn't mind there being LESS then 1000....at all. I would love it if I got a rare pin...but that is just because I get a good feeling knowing that I have something that is 'rare' (mental games or whatnot with collecting). They said they weren't expecting to have very many left after the KS...so the number could be lower...guess we'll have to see if they give Pedro an answer at the game night.

Has the Pin been confirmed as Exclusive to Kickstarter?? The text on the page is kinda vague. In the reward tiers the Pin is mentioned and then later Kickstarter exclusive is used for the shirts. Just wondering.

  • VaanroseVaanrose Pin Cushion SeattleRegistered User regular
The reality of kickstarter is you're not paying 100 bucks for a pin et al, you're paying 100 bucks to Scott and Co. so they can make their book, and they're giving you a little reward for it. It's something I see all the time, people complaining why certain tier levels are so expensive when the rewards you get from them are usually very inexpensive, but that's because most of that money is needed to produce what the Kickstarter is for to begin with.

So you shouldn't feel upset that you've paid 100 bucks for something someone at East might get for $15; the other $85 was a donation.

Personally, though, I'd love to see future Kickstarter pins to be on a tier of their own that's a bit lower. I'd pay $30 or $40 for a pin and nothing else, but I can't justify paying $100, even when it comes with other stuff.

Yes, they confirmed with me it is a Kickstarter exclusive. The only exception to that is if they have any extras they will be giving them out/trading them at East.

  • grgemonkeygrgemonkey Registered User regular
I appreciate that @Vaanrose but my point is more, regardless of how the money is divided, people who are willing to back you for $100+ deserve a little bit of exclusivity or at least info on what the minimum quantity is so we know exactly what the deal is. I know the PA guys are doing a million things but it's a question that comes up for every single LE pin, perhaps it's time to just include it as a base level of information :)

$100 is a lot of money and while it is voluntary, for me this doesn't necessarily mean it can be taken with any liberty, KS backers are more like regular customers than they're often given credit for, the rules of sale are still in effect.

Anyway, I don't need to harp on about it any more, the good news is they're fully backed and looking to meet a bunch of stretch goals, I wish them all the best :)

According to Gabe's post these will be available at east sans-book... I might give up on the kickstarter knowing that actually as I don't want the shirt.

  • VaanroseVaanrose Pin Cushion SeattleRegistered User regular
They will be available in extremely short supply. Extremely short. Extremely. Most people are expecting there to be just over a hundred pins total still available for purchase, so if you can afford to keep the Kickstarter backed, it's probably a good idea.

I don't think people understand, This will soon be as hard to get as the DLC. Keep that in mind.

  • 00Fayt0000Fayt00 Registered User regular
IF PA counts Scott as part of the PA "internal" group....then there will be 300 of these. As @Vaanrose and @odinson83 were saying that means maybe 125 of these if not many more sell and they take every leftover with them. IF that is the case, getting 1/125 at PAX East is going to be extremely difficult.

I'm basing this off of Scott telling me that he got the minimum order allowed...and most of us have the general consensus I think that they would consider Scott part of the 'internal' PA group and would be allowed to order 300 which is the confirmed min for PA.

  • AyefkayAyefkay Queensland, AustraliaRegistered User regular
I agree with the comments that this will be pretty limited at PAX, safest best is to still back the kickstarter

At first I was sorta annoyed that there'd be some available for purchase at PAX, but then I remembered it'll be an extremely small amount so I'd probably miss out. Plus I'm still getting super awesome Table Titans swag.

I'll probably try to score a TT pin at PAX. I honestly have next to zero interest in the kickstarter, but my brain squirrels want satisfaction.

I'm in the same boat. If it was Kickstarter only it'd be one thing, but it won't be impossible to get one at East so I'd rather risk it.

***IMPORTANT NEWS*** (Sorry felt like it needed a heading for people scrolling through)

I emailed Toonhound again about the table titans pin. I basically told them there was discussion whether this would be a 300 print run or a 1000 print run being as it is Scott's comic and told them I wanted to clear it up for the community. Here is their response.

    Hi Braden

Thanks so much for keeping on top of this and making sure the Pinny Community has the info! We at Toonhound Studios are great friends with all the folks at PA but we are not part of their organization, nor do we reside in their offices. Our print run is at the 1000 level, the smallest possible for partners :)

Let us know if there are any other questions from the Pinny community. We're happy so many people are as excited as we are about this!

    Thanks again

If you wanted to wait until East because you aren't a fan of the comic, then there whouls be 800+ pins there that they are selling. I'm still staying at the $100 just because I really like the strip...but I understand some people were only in it for the pin so now you know that there will be 1000 made total. :)

I just decided to back the Kickstarter too. Now I am wondering if I should back out or not. I really only wanted the pin.

  • grgemonkeygrgemonkey Registered User regular
If you only wanted the pin, it doesn't make much sense, $100 for a pin is super expensive, even sold-outs pins don't fetch that high. 1000 pins is a lot, for example look at the KI pins, they don't interest everyone and they've been in the store for along time (in comparison to pins that sell out).

I think Table Titans is a similar niche, you have the die-hard 100%'ers but regular collectors might skip it all together.

I was under the impression the Skull pin didn't sell out at Prime, either, and I feel like PvP is more popular than Table Titans. My educated guess would be Val stays available the entire show.

Skull Fart I was told on Sunday HAD sold out...but that was just what I was told when I tried to find one to buy.

As far as Val, with around 800 at East I'm guessing he will have a few left for Prime at least.

He ordered 1K of the Bard Rock? It's funny the Kickstarter ends before he sells them at East so I can't cancel if I get my pin from him there for fear that he didn't order a lot. I'm starting to think "minimum order" is code for 1K.

Minimum order does equal 1k, unless it's specifically a PA pin, like DLC. It's been confirmed. So there should be ~800 Val pins at East.

  • PedroAsaniPedroAsani Brotherhood of the Squirrel [Prime]Registered User regular
From the way it was explained to me at ECCC by Katie, and from previous conversation with TheHonestHippo about KI Pins, I think I have a fuller picture of what was explained to me by Mike at the last Snapdoodle.

300 is the minimum run for PA internally. That is likely their break-even or minimal loss point on a print run, so if they wanted to "do a Bat Milk" as it were, they could. Example, if there is a design that they love, but think few people outside of PA would want (obscure reference, deliberately ugly design or minimal design) then we might see a 300 run.

1,000 is the minimum run for external partners. In this case, even Katie and Scott are external partners. It's a good thing, since it prevents a 3rd party underestimating demand and minimises any artificial rarity.

As for cancelling, I would advise against it. Just the idea that there are only 1,000 available is enough to rile the Brain Squirrels.

If the 1,000 run out at East or drop low enough, there is time to print more before Prime, assuming there are no printing issues a la Golden Whale.

If the 1,000 run out between Prime and Aus, I don't think there would be time to get reprints done.

From my conversation with Scott, or whoever is responding on KS, they are not planning on printing any more past the 1000 unless the KS required it. They said that IF they had a few left for Prime then they would take them there, but if they ran out at East then that would be it.

So…no reprints is my understanding from talking to them unless they had over 1000 orders on KS, which they won't get even close to. ;)
