Superman: Doomsday

This looks like it could be pretty hit or miss, but I'm hoping it kicks ass, or at least far outshines those awful Marvel direct-to-dvd films (was doctor strange any good? I saw the other three and they were all pretty awful).

Best Buy is offering it with a pack-in of an issue of Justice League: New Frontier to promote it as the next direct to dvd film, while Circuit City is throwing in a poster-sized print of the original Doomsday comic cover.

Most interestingly, Target is offering up a secret promotion advertised in there fliers, that won't be revealed until in-store release on Tuesday.

What do all you folks make of this? Are these direct-to-dvd films a good idea, or should Marvel and DC just stop because they're all pretty terrible?

Isn't this by Bruce Timm? It has to be good then, right?

Jordyn and Sars Boy saw it at Comic-Con and said it's awesome

    what store to buy at

I mean, I love New Frontier, but I've got the Absolute Edition

and I know someone at Circuit City who can get me a poster

so I'll see what Target has, even though they'll probably be more expensive than the other two

edit: according to their ads, they're all $15, so i'll see what target has

if they're not good enough, i'll go to best buy

Holy shit! Adam Baldwin is Superman. I did not know this. Also James Marsters is Lex Luthor!

And apparently Amy Acker voiced Huntress in JLU, which I find awesome.

Basically: People from Joss Whedon shows woo!

Yep. I'm sorely tempted to just buy it outright. I was obsessed with the Death storyline when it came out.

Doctor Strange was good, the Ultimate Avengers ones were pretty bad

I only watched maybe ten minutes of Invincible Iron Man before turning it off

Good thing this is a DC production and made by a different team.

    I think.
(I never saw any of those, because they didn't seem too good.)

The death storyline and knightfall kind of got me into comics. I believe it was one of my aunts that got me this huge chest of DC backissues on christmas 95 or so. It didn't have the whole of either storyline, but it had doomsday and it had the issues of knightfall where the knight fell... It also had the issues where superman came back for whatever reason. I never found out why he came back from the dead.

    Maybe I will now.

As awful as those lionsgate/marvel movies were, I'd probably buy a box of all 4 for the right price.

Not a box of 3 like they have now. It has to have the only redeeming movie of the four to balance out the suck of the others.

I was 5 when the Death of Superman came out, so I didn't really have ample opportunity to take in it's emotional displeasures, maybe this will get me to actually care about Superman dying ;)

Then again, by the time I had any sort of interest in the comics, five years after the Death of Superman was published, the shock of him being killed had washed away.

    That's a terrible exclusive.

I once got a CD of classical music that came with a "collectible" bookmark with a wizard on it, as if there were going to be other bookmarks in other CDs and I would rush to collect them.

My biggest problem with the movie is the pacing. The beginning just goes by so quick and then it slows things down

I felt that way at first, and then sorta let myself think about it for a while. And I agree that the action definitely slows down, but there's enough story in the middle to make up for it, until things start kicking again at the end.

    Also,
    WHO'S YOUR DADDY?

    Also also real spoiler
Luthor straight up shoots a bitch.

I went to Target at around 9:45 and they had one copy left. They opened at 8

I went to Best Buy around 10:05 and they had a bunch of them because they opened at 10
