Sad I won't be joining you all this year. Trip last year was definitely an experience. Made some friends on the way back during the layover in Albany, too! But plane tickets were so cheap this go around (got them during a sale) that it would've been silly for us to take any other way. Have fun, guys! Metal Gear Line should definitely be done at least once.

Anyone have their gaming lists figured out yet?

    So far I've got:
    • The Agents (and expansions)
    • We Didn't Playtest This (At All, Either, and mini expansions)
    • Hero Brigade
    • 12 Days
    • Dungeon Roll
    • Boss Monster (and THK)
    • Incredibrawl
I'm thinking Carcassonne, Zombicide, some iteration of RISK, and/or Flash Point may make the list, but I don't want to pack too much and a couple of those seem like they may be difficult given the size of the games and number of components to play on the train's tables.

Other games our group should have with us are:
    • Coup
    • Citadels
    • Saboteur
    • Zombie Fluxx
    • Werewolf
    • One Night Ultimate Werewolf
    • King of Tokyo
    • Guillotine
    • Hanabi
    • Bang! The Dice Game
    • Eaten By Zombies
    • Lemonade Stand
    • Smash Up (and expansions)
    • Sentinels of the Multiverse
    • War of Indines
    • Once Upon A Time
    • Cthulu Gloom
Given the size of my group we've got quite a few games, so if there are any games someone is wanting to try out or hoping someone else will bring feel free to post that too and I'll see if we have it.

Is there enough room to play games? I've never been on Amtrak before.

  • the_fuzzy_penguinthe_fuzzy_penguin OhioRegistered User regular
In the regular train cars no, but we take over the diner cars and play at the tables there. There are only 1 or 2 times we have to leave (like dinner for those that have sleeper cars since it's a set time), but other than that they're pretty cool with us playing. People played Flash Point, Pandemic, Ascension, and numerous card games last year without any space issues. Zombicide and Risk may be pushing it size-wise for the tables, but the tables "comfortably" seat 4 and I think we squeezed in 5 a few times.

  • radjagoradjago Registered User regular
Here's a picture of the tables in the cafe car for example. They're big enough to handle most games. As long as the game doesn't have a ton of fiddly bits, it should be fine. Card games or games with flat components work best.

That is really cool... Also in one week we'll be on our way!

Getting pretty excited and a bit nervous as well.

The whole set will give you a good idea of the atmosphere. gidgets takes really good pictures. Too bad she's flying in this year.

Yeah that looks like a lot of fun! Can you tell me about how much food is on the train? I plan on bringing snacks but it's a looong ride.

  • the_fuzzy_penguinthe_fuzzy_penguin OhioRegistered User regular
Unfortunately I can't remember all that was offered last year. I brought a bunch of snacks/drinks for the way and only bought one meal on the train. I want to say it was like $7-10 for a small meal (sandwich, drink, and maybe chips?)

  • urahonkyurahonky Registered User regular
Oh that's not too bad then.

1 week from now we will all be hanging out on the train hopefully, can not wait those pics sure make it look like it was fun.

I actually took a picture of the menu. What a nerd am I? If you're buying at meal times, plan on getting in line early as things sell out fast.

Just picked up Mario Kart 7 for the 3ds today, can not wait to have some races on the train.

Those menu prices do not look bad, but the sold out may be a issue i guess we just gotta get there fast before food sells out.

okay thanks and what station would I get off at?

  • Sgt.MaysSgt.Mays Ontario, CanadaRegistered User regular
It should go into South station with the other trains i would guess, just looked on the site you can take that one or the 174 Northeast looks expensive though.

Around 61 dollars i think, i am coming from Buffalo on the 443 LSL (aka Metal Gear Line).

You may want to check out the carpool thread, or even look at flights to see if it is cheaper. But hurry as things are filling up fast (the April 10th LSL is already sold out.)

Should I bring the Penny-Arcade card game? It plays a lot like Dominion (which I also have).

  • Sgt.MaysSgt.Mays Ontario, CanadaRegistered User regular
Why not, i do not play card games often but it could be fun.

I'll be flying solo from Chicago this year. It'll be my first year taking the Metal Gear as I've been in Boston for college for all the previous Pax Easts. Super excited about meeting you all. Still lining up what games I'll be hauling with me.

Can't wait, anybody know how the meals are served on the train? does everybody go to a dining car at a set time? or can you just get stuff at any time?

Here's my collection if anyone has any requests.

    http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/Radjago?own=1&subtype=boardgame&ff=1

Jungle Speed is always good with a crew that's been up all night.

I'll also have my iPad with a good amount of board games and multiplayer games. Spaceteam anyone?

You can grab stuff whenever unless you have a sleeper car. Then you have a set dining time that they clear the entire dining car out for, and nobody else can get anything at that time.

Would a pillow be considered carry on if it's not in a bag?

  • Sgt.MaysSgt.Mays Ontario, CanadaRegistered User regular
I would think if you just keep it with you at your seat they would allow it, also they allow 2 carry on items right?.

Anyways see ya all tomorrow on the train!.

I've got Ascension: Rise of Vigil, along with Blokus Duo (2-player Blokus) and PairsInPears, a really fast word game by the guys behind Bananagrams. Also bringing my bad Magic deck, my 3DS with Mario Kart, and my bad phone for Spaceteam.
    Anyone else bringing anything rad?
