Sony had a chance to play the first couple of hours, here's their blog write-up:

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/04/03/the-first-2-hours-of-child-of-light-on-ps4/#sf2454639

This may be the 2nd game to make my PS4 hard drive cry under the weight of screenshots/videos for sharing.

I'm certainly one who hopes there's more games that take a more artistic approach to games, games that are gorgeous because of the style, not the polygon count. These are games that stand the test of time.

Really, we don't see this enough. Last time I saw an art style winning me over to buy a game was this:

    And later on, this:

The non-JRPG stuff reminds me a lot of Aquaria so I'm pretty pumped for this.

I was gonna buy this anyways, but now I hear it has Grandia 2's battle system?

I did not play the other installments. Are I, III and Xtreme in the PSN Store?

Only Grandia 1 is to my knowledge, sadly. It's really good, though!

I would buy the everloving fuck out of a PSN version of the others, especially 2. I admit 3 was kinda wonky though, and Xtreme had among the absolute worst voice acting of all time.

Grandia 2 remains one of my favorite ever RPGs, however.

On the topic of the game at hand, though:

I've seen a few videos on it, and was sold on the aesthetic, price point, and general idea. I have not actually seen a battle video. But then I found this thread, read the OP, and...

Well, it's like this game was made just for me.

I have the game preordered on Steam. I love the concept. The art looks beautiful, except for one thing:

I really, really hate the protagonists hair.

I feel bad about that, but I just really, really hate it to a degree that even I feel is unreasonable. Like "I'd love to take screenshots, but I can see her hair, and now there's no point because it's all ruined."

If there's a 'different hair DLC' I will buy it instantly, regardless of price.

Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

Pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition for £15, seems like a total bargain for something that looks so great.

I'm not a big fan but I like that they found a way to distinguish her.

The PlayStation version is the best value

    PS3/PS4 cross buy

And also useless if you already do have a PS4, because why would you want to go back and play it on the PS3?

Maybe to have it available with someone you share the account.

But you can probably count those people.

Why would the cross buy be worthless if you don't have a PS4? You get it for PS3 now, play it, put it down for a couple of years, get a PS4 and go "Oh hey, I wanna play CHild of Light again", and there it is. It basically future proofs you on the game if you don't have a PS4 currently.

If you do have a PS4, it becomes significantly less valuable.

After the demo we got to speak to the game’s creative director Patrick Plourdé, who through his thick French Canadian accent was able to explain exactly what influenced him to make the game and how it might inspire other similarly inventive titles from Ubisoft in the future.

Happy to hear it has selectable difficulty. It's a shame when you have interesting systems, but nothing really to engage with, or alternately, something that just overwhelms you.

I, for one, enjoyed the Mako.

This. Though I do wish that increased difficulty didn't usually mean making the enemies into bullet sponges that deal more damage. I'd like to see different situations with more badguys and more challenging positioning (if that's part of the game), and I'd also like to see AI use more advanced tactics on higher difficulties.

Don't know how much I'm allowed to say since it's not out yet, but I played a couple hours of this last night and it's so good. Decent difficulty on Hard mode, combat system is brisk and has some depth (Grandia interrupts, FFX party swapping mid-battle, and firefly to slow & regen), LV-Up & crafting systems are easy to understand and enjoyable, and of course, the visuals are gorgeous.

Nice. What's the size of the combat party? Is it 3?

I'm not sure if Igniculus participates in the combat outside assists.
