It continues to be Ironic that the secondary characters are the only INTERESTING and well-written characters.
Eh, I quite like Flora as a character because of how she's rather torn between the various life styles she's had to live.
Though I agree with Trace, I feel like he's more or less here to be the plot driving force and little else. Which is probably why you actually don't get many strips focused on him these days outside of when plot focused stuff is happening.
I think Tom's pretty good at character writing and pretty good at creating a story. It's when he has to do both at the same time his writing can fall a bit flat.

The trouble with Trace is that he's a "full reset" amnesiac in true fiction style, which for the most part means he has no agency whatsoever. Even his "find out what I lost" bit disappeared when he discovered that it was mostly "being an evil bastard" and decided it wasn't that great a loss after all. Doesn't help that they're presently on a boat and far away from any and all resources they might use to do anything significant in the wider world, or even find out what all's going on out there.
