Mass. House approves $1.1b convention center expansion

The Massachusetts House of Representatives approved a bill to expand the BCEC and hotels. $1.b billion to be exact. The idea is to construct another hotel (in addition to the one currently under construction) and add an additional 1.3 million square feet to the convention hall. The hotel to be funded with this would add an additional 200 rooms to the area.
Also in the news is that there are multiple companies bidding on building a 1000 room hotel next to the BCEC. There is a 500 room hotel being built currently. So all in all that would add another 1700 rooms in walking distance of the BCEC, which is double of whats available now (within walking distance).
The bill still needs to be approved by the Mass Sentate, schedule for the end of July.
If everything goes through and on schedule (HA!), everything would be opening 2019.

Hopefully the new hotel(s) have lots of conference rooms too, so they can be used for PAX related activities like the pair of Hyatts and other hotels in downtown Seattle for Prime.
While it seems empty now, this land is also being developed pretty heavily as Fort Point/Seaport is becoming one of tech/bio hubs in the area.

MA Senate approved it yesterday. 2019 is a long way away though. Going to continue to be crowded at East for a while.
If you think expansion will make it not crowded, you need to re-evaluate the demand for this thing. It will be exciting to see that giant hall even bigger.
Where is this hotel construction? I never noticed it at East 14.

I suspect that all this expansion will be seen as a great reason to turn the BCEC parking into parking garages, automate the parking attendance, and jack up the parking charges. Here's to hoping that I'm totally wrong and way off base.
There's a reason why most tourist guides to Boston say that if you are driving in and don't absolutely have to have a car in the city, park at one of the outer area T stops that have overnight parking. I take the T in that way all the time. I hate walking (ok, I'm lazy
Public transportation is more than adequate in Boston. If I go next year I also plan on staying at either the Westin or the Seaport, so we should be good.
If you're in NJ, you should ride the Sonic Line (Amtrak). It stops in Trenton and Newark, is way more comfortable/convenient than flying, serves Dogfish Head 90 Minute, and you can get the ticket today for $74.
