I really like your work can't wait to see more!
when I was younger I would make similar sculptures (although usually sci fi in nature) but they were never any good
Hey, thanks Tim! We all were "never any good" at some point, just takes practice, like anything. I'm still not happy with my work really, always learning.
Been sick as a dog lately, but did manage to get another painting done...which feels good.
The last doggy looks like it has a little more depth than the previous paintings. Maybe you're playing around with the style a little, but the muzzle in particular looks great!
New one- Having had many dogs in my life over the years...I've awoken in the morning to a face like this many times. Those close-up morning hello's where their fuzzy lip hairs are practically tickling your face, and the stinky doggy breath is super warm and impossible to ignore.
I wouldn't trade that in for anything.
It may just be a the photo, but it looks like you got a nice smooth background tone on this one compared to the others with graphic stuff like this, that can make a huge difference in the quality. Looks like you paid a little more attention to the lighting on this dog, which helps define the form. I imagine that moving into to painting from sculpture, it may be a little weird to translate things into 3D by the idea of replicating light (rather than, you know, just making it so).
I've always thought your work was super fun, though.
Thanks Iruka, I've definitely been trying to pay more attention to lighting lately, instead of just painting on a static background. Trying to give a bit more depth to the image.
A painting I did a bit ago for a client whose daughter had her beloved cat pass away. It's always an honour to paint someone's pet, especially posthumously. I couldn't show it until now, as it was a birthday gift for the client's daughter and they didn't want it spoiled. Apparently tears of joy were shed when it was received, and I gotta say, that's the best review of a piece I could ever have.
'Morning Face'
acrylics on 6x6x1.5" canvas
If you have a dog, you know this face. A lot of the time it's the first face you see in the morning, wanting food, or to "go outside".
Bull Moose, such amazing creatures and BIG. Wandering slowly through the misty Canadian forests, I've only ever seen one in person as they are pretty elusive. Always wanted to paint one, and now I have!
Thanks for looking!
The dogs are looking great. They are well studied.
I think that the ones that fill up the canvas are flattening a bit, and I don't know if that's avoidable without a silhouette. The dog portraits have a bit more life to them for me though.

A labour of love for sure.

Do you have any progress shots, by chance?
Here's the few in progress photos I have of my latest pet commission... 'Harley' (I definitely don't take enough during the process)
