Okay, here's what vol. 1 looks like - definitely looking at making vol. 2 using more of these suggestions as soon as I get more blank CDs...

    3) The Arcade Fire - Cold Wind
    4) Morrissey - Billy Budd
    5) The Boo Radleys - Wake Up, Boo!
    6) Bright Eyes - A Perfect Sonnet
    7) My Latest Novel - The Reputation of Ross Francis
    8) Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights
    9) Magnetic Fields - Abigail, Belle of Kilronan
    10) The Mountain Goats - This Year
    11) The Decemberists - July, July!
    12) Belle and Sebastian - If She Wants Me
    13) Of Montreal - Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games
    14) Pavement - Gold Soundz
    15) Jens Lekman - Black Cab
    16) Sunny Day Real Estate - Grendel
    17) TV on the Radio - Wolf Like Me
    18) Magnetic Fields - Wi' Nae Wee Bairn Ye'll Me Beget
    19) British Sea Power - Please Stand Up
    20) Peter Murphy - Marlene Dietrich's Favourite Poem
    21) Spoon - the Underdog

I guess for volume 2 I'll recommend Sufjan Stevens - The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us!

Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Metallica - The Thing That Should Not Be (Lovecraftian)

Anthrax - Among the Living, Skeletons in the Closet, I Am The Law

Crash Test Dummies - Afternoons and Coffee Spoons (Really, the whole God Shuffled His Feet album is for English majors).

Damn you, I was going to recommend Afternoons and Coffee Spoons.

Cake maybe? I find their lyrics pretty clever.

Edit: OH! Aesop Rock is a must, especially 11:35. Those lyrics blow my mind. Anything by De La Soul is brilliant in the lyrical department too. The Roots too.
