Once upon a time, Namco(t) made the original Megami Tensei games for the Famicom/NES.
They were so successful that the devs branched off and made their own company... Atlus.
After the success of their new games, Shin Megami Tensei, they decided to go back to their roots, and remake MT1&2 for the SNES audience.
This is the result...

Megami Tensei was redone from scratch, while keeping the tone of the original intact.
This is the story of how demons entered our world, Lucifer couldn't learn how to leave well enough alone, and one hardcore hacker did something incredibly stupid.
I know them!
Supposedly they were highly inebriated.
At least it's warm where they're going.
It's okay, Lucy, you'll get a nicer suit one day.
For the time being, we're doing Part 1: Megami Tensei(Reincarnation of the Goddess).
Probably used something better than Basic.
Where's Thor when you need him?
Makarakarn: never leave home without it.
They seldom do.
To be fair, it is a little easier than war on Heaven.
(Before she became a gas station attendant.)
Not that powerful apparently.
I hope they brought a Mr. Gency.
That's up to us!
So, keep their canon names?

Yumiko gets the traditional magic user build.

Most of MT1 occurs strictly in Daedalus.
The first floor is a hub town of sorts.
After that it's all pain.
Apart from a few sociable demons.
There's also shopkeepers on 1F:

Oh yeah.
Once back at the shop, I grab a stronger weapon for Nakajima,
and a weaker one for Yumiko.
Then decent armor for each of them.
The equipment system is pretty intuitive.
Select a gear and it gets assigned automatically.
Then, go time.

Into the depths of 2F.
There's nothing that ferocious here, but some demons can rock your world if you fight them before gaining a level.
These guys go down easy.
And, first levels!
I work on Nakajima's strength, and getting Yumiko some much-needed HP.
They put up more of a fight, but not much.
There's lots of demon ambush rooms, a la SMT1.
This guy can murder your team if you fight him too early.
It's close, but he goes down:
Not that we get much else for it.
Maybe we can get some allies now!
