I will say since they are giving the avenger another version could we get some more customization options? I mean Nacelles up or down or fins aint exactly setting the world on fire!

Those new ships are horrible aesthetically. My favorite ship is still the Akira-class.

You can get a quick look at the Guardian's ass-end during an early cutscene in Surface Tension. After your ship and Voyager come through the portal, you can see the Guardian on the right as the ships move away. It's probably the least ugly of the Fed ships, but it's really awkward and top-heavy. Imagine a Galaxy-class. Give it a taller neck, then give it almost straight to the sides pylons so the nacelles are barely above the secondary hull.

I get the Intel ships are supposed to call to mind the design of early stealth aircraft, which are awkward and ugly, but man, even "intentionally awkward and ugly" doesn't redeem the Scryer.

Edit: Since we hit page 100 I'm going to start working on a new thread, should be up later today if my day stays slow. If anyone wants any particular bad jokes in the title, let me know.

The majority of the federation ships are very attractive in their own right, which is why these new ones are so harsh.

I actually like the hammered sheet metal tron ship.

But you could stick glowing leds on a toilet and I'd call it progress, so...

The aesthetic of those new Fed ships is fucking terrible. Squat, is the word I would use.

Like a misshapen dwarf reflection of the graceful federation designs.

Like a misshapen dwarf reflection of the graceful federation designs.

Almost like they've been neck deep in galactic war on half a dozen fronts for the past half decade and somebody finally thought "Hey, maybe we should start building warships instead of re-purposing our existing fleet of science and diplomatic ships. What do you think guys?". Then they got a bunch of 13 year old kids, hyped them up on space sugar and chained them to drafting tables to design them.

It's weird, the new fed ships are downright ugly looking, but for some reason that I can't understand, I still like them. It might be just the fact that they're so different from the other ships that the Federation uses.

Well ultimately I'll have to see them in 3d and action before I make a final choice. And I'll still probably just upgrade my avenger and hope for more customization with that.

Me too! My USS Thunderbolt is an Armitage class that uses mostly Akira parts. I'm abit worried that I did not see it on the T5 upgrade list.

Also yes, the new Fed sips are absolutely hideous and have nothing that makes them look Feddie at all! Lame. I wish we'd get something cool like a really modern Akula or Bonaventure class destroyer style escort. But I'm just a huge TOS / TMP fan. :/

My favorite fed ship (aside from the Wells which is a future ship) is the Ambassador class.

It's a beautiful bridge between the TOS and TNG aesthetics.

From the picture they have for the bonaventure it looks like the patrol escort refit.

I suppose it sort of does, but the nacelle pylons are flat and the vibe to me is very different. I really think the V angled pylon style has that classic Federation Starship look. I'm rather picky though.

The patrol escort refit is actually more similiar to the Archer class, in general design shape, IMO. Which is still rather cool looking in it's own way.

Only old school trek ships I liked was the reliant types. The older cruiser lines are too bulky for me. I like smoothed edges and sleeker profiles.

Then again I liked B5's ship designs better for the most part, especially their earth ships.

As much as I like Earth Alliance ships, that statement is kind of contradictory. I mean, the Omega Destroyer is like the epitome of blocky design.

But hey, everyone has their favorites! I just don't really like most Trek designs in TNG+ nearly as much as the older style designs. I do really like the Akira and Defiant classes though. I've come to like the Galaxy alot more, but it still will never come close to my favorite design, the Constitution Refit. What a beauty.

Well I mean smooth designs in trek. B5 was using more "realistic" space design for the most part, so their bulky earth ships at least worked in that they looked like something humans would build.

Bonus marks weekend. Also the super pack for delta rising is like 115 bucks, but if you wanted to get all the ships and neelix's horrible outfit, it doesn't seem too bad.

So I reinstalled and was able to get my Cryptic account linked. I decided to give Romulan a try and I'm finding it interesting.

Any chance I can get an invite to the fleet? My handle is @swphreak

I logged back in over the weekend for the free stuff and I have to say flying around in a warbird shooting torpedoes at shit is still pretty fun. I hit 40 and now can unlock a new ship but I have no idea what ship to grab. I really like the look of the D'whatever from TNG I'm currently rocking, but it's so damn slow.

I should probably just grab the rank 40 tac warbird but eh...

So far I think the D'deridex is bar none the coolest Romulan ship, I much prefer it aesthetically to the level 40 stuff, and now that I'm level 50 I'm going to start working towards the fleet D'deridex.

The trick with the Big D is to make really liberal use of the maneuverability boost from battle cloak, at least if you want to run cannons on her. As far as I remember it is a bit compounded by the fact that you get one right before the toughest mission in the Romulan content. She's a good ship, but I do like cruisers so maybe I'm a wee bit biased.

I love the look of the D'deridex, but I also really like the Romulan temporal vessels. I pilot the Talvath temporal destroyer, and it is currently my absolute favorite ship in the game. My only complaint about it, is the lack of a battle cloak, but otherwise I absolutely adore the way it looks.

I had the saddest thing happen this morning a fail on the crystal entity which is something I didn't even know could freaking happen. Like over half the god damn raid just disappeared.

You can reach a point where it's health just isn't going down, he's getting healed and dishing out ridiculous damage.

Had it happen a few times especially early on. Once you hit that point it's either bail or sit there for an hour or two.

  • PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
That's what happened, but I figure it was because the majority of the raid disappeared because it looked like 4 people were there. And I bailed because fuck that.

So the mission undine infiltration ground, who's innocent and guilty randomizes each time right?

Because there answers certainly do...but then each round someone flips right out that people are choosing wrong.

  • HevachHevach Registered User regular
Their answers do randomize, it's just a matter of checking all the evidence around them and then seeing what they say that doesn't match.

Every one you get wrong reduces the marks for the whole group, though, and there's no time limit. It pays to take your time, but in an average pug 2 people are hammering dialog at random until something happens, the third doesn't know what's going on and runs around randomly until bad guys start spawning, and the forth is trying to physically eat the internet because of the first two.

The trick is to be the fifth guy and try to get a couple right.

So, I've had a tactical officer since release. And because of reasons I still haven't gotten him up to max level. It's just not 'smooth' for whatever reason.

However, on a whim I decided to make an Engineer Captain over the weekend and its soooo different. I don't know why, its just going great.

I figured, but each person flipping out has implied they're a set innocent or guilty and that never changes from one round to the next. Hence my confusion given there answers change, thanks for the clarification.

Generally when I die as an Engineer Captain I can clearly point to a thing I did that was dumb rather then having run out of options to live.

Yeah this is why I like my engy captain over my tactical one. The engy can run a cruiser with most of the consoles dedicated to blowing things up and not be paper thin.

And from my experience with Undine infiltration it randomizes who is undine and who isn't (aside from the guard right next to where you start, the guy has never in all my times of running it been undine) but the answers undine give and non undine give are always the same. Once you know the difference and can memorize it, its not hard.

When I die in my vesta as a sci captain it's generally a case of not being fast enough to hit my (numerous) get out of jail buttons fast enough.

because they make the hulls of those things out of paper or something (and I need to dedicate one of my two engineering slots to RCS or I will never ever get my cannons on target)
