Thanks, but I meant as in how many people watched the marathon on a season per season basis.

Some of the bulk of seasons were aired in the wee hours so it's going to be difficult to get direct comparisons.

And it's over. I wonder how many subscribers FXX picked up just for this?

I didn't even know FXX existed before all this Simpsons talk.

It hasn't been around very long

I wonder how the crossover episode is going to work. Not that canon matters, but they have gone on record multiple times that the shows are actual fictional tv shows in their respective universes, like seeing Bart Simpson dolls in a waste dump on Futurama.

Pish posh, Jay Sherman visited Springfield and there's Simpsons junk in Jay's New York.

Actually, I am pretty sure there is Simpsons merch in the Simpsons universe itself.

I recall Bart seeing a t shirt of himself back in the older seasons...

There was a Bart Simpson T-shirt being sold in the Monkey Paw Halloween episode. Is that the one you're thinking of?

Yeah, The original idea was that FX and FXX were going to mostly split FX's original content between drama and comedy. They moved Always Sunny, The League, and a few other comedies in their 2nd or so year over to FXX. It...didn't go well for any of the non-Sunny/League shows. League and Sunny are still there, but I don't think they're showing any other new shows there, and it's now being reborn as the Simpsons rerun network.

I caught a couple of the early season episodes back during the marathon. In particular there was one where Bart discovers a comet, and I hadn't recalled them being so hilarious. I might have to check out that app and see the early seasons again now that I'm old enough to get all the jokes.

Well as a fairly basic cable subscriber I can tell you they cut me off from half their shows by doing this.

FXX tends to be a deluxe package channel and none of their content is worth upgrading for to me

Moe: "Feh, science! What has science ever done for us? TV off!"

    (TV shuts off)

It took me several reruns to finally get that joke.

Which episode had Homer saying "I wish God were alive to see this?" Because that one always makes me laugh. That and, "But I don't even believe in Jeebus! ...save me, Jeebus!"

I end up using a variation of this a lot in actual conversations.

"Homer! Are you planning to hit Ned Flanders with a lead pipe?"

    "Ye-no..."

"Oh, so you want a rock war, eh?"

    also:

"STEALING!? HOW COULD YOU! HAVEN'T YOU BEEN LISTENING TO ANYTHING THAT GUYS BEEN SAYING AT CHURCH? YOU KNOW...CAPTAIN WHAT'S-HIS-NAME!? WHY DO YOU THINK I TOOK YOU TO ALL THOSE POLICE ACADEMY MOVIES? FOR FUN!? WELL I DIDN'T HEAR ANYBODY LAUGHING, DID YOU!?"

Reminds me of another favorite Police Academy bashing quote:

"Boy, when Marge first told me she was going to the police academy, I thought it'd be fun and exciting, you know, like that movie...'Spaceballs'. But instead it's been painful and disturbing like that movie 'Police Academy'."

    That episode was just gold.

Homer: "He sure is in a hurry to get to the garage."
Moe: "The garage. Well la-di-da, Mr. Frenchman."
Homer: "What do you call it?"
    Moe: "A car-hold!"
    (later)
Homer: "A counterfeit jeans ring! Operating right from my car-hold!"

Leading to the best of the episode:
Homer: "I'm going to tell everybody! Wait here." (walks away quickly)
Herman, pulling a gun: "Not so fast!"
    Homer: "Ok." (walks more slowly)
Herman: ".... maybe you should just stop completely."

I've always heard "hold". Which makes sense in my head since it holds your car.

Oh, how could I forget the best Homer religious speech.

"Homer, if you don't change your ways, I'll have to tell the kids their father is, well, wicked."
"Kids, let me tell you about another so-called "wicked" man. He had long hair and some crazy ideas, and he didn't always do what people thought was right. And that man's name was... I forget. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is... I forget that too. Marge! You know who I'm talking about! He used to drive that blue truck?"

So i have a random thought about the simpsons.

Homer goes to Moe's most nights after work, and drinks pretty heavily there. All of his friends do too.

Are they all just driving home drunk every night?

    Yes.

Drunk driving used to be a big problem for basically exactly this reason.

I think so, yes. But they never show it. Nor do they ever really show them driving up to Moe's or driving away. The only exception I can think of is in S10 E11's "Wild Barts Can't Be Broken" where Homer, Lenny, Carl, and Homer go on a drunken binge after the Isotopes win the pennant, driving around the halls of Springfield Elementary which causes a children's curfew to go into effect. Then there was S04 E11's "Duffless" where Homer's license is suspended and he's sent to AA, but that was after his tour at the Duff Brewery and he was literally pulled over leaving the parking lot. Barney drove away, though...

They don't really drink to excess at Moe's normally. Well, okay, Barney does.

    Ah, I forgot one.

Adjuster: "Just one more question before I approve the case. This place you were at, Moe's, is this a business of some sort?"
Homer's Brain: "Don't tell him you were at a bar. (gasps) But what else is open at night?"
Homer: "It is a pornography store. I was buying pornography."
Homer's Brain: "Heh heh. I would have never thought of that."

Though the way that played out, the crash was the fault of the intense snowfall and not the drinking. That's a bit of a grey area I suppose.
