AMD GPU Driver issues/should i return it?

CasualCasual Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle Flap Flap Flap Registered User regular
So I bought an R9 270, the only problem is I cannot install the drivers for it. The catalyst install manager hangs and crashes every time, I can't find a fix for it or even nail down the cause since this is apparently a common thing with a multitude of causes. Hilariously it could even be because AMD chipsets cause the installer to crash.

Is this a problem anyone has solved?

If not is this the sort of thing I could return the card for or will they say it's my problem and refuse to take it back?

I just built a PC with an R9 270 (Powercolor) and I remember having installation issues with it as well. I wound up, IIRC, finding drivers on the manufacturer website specific for it. I love the card, but damned if AMD's drivers aren't shit, although Mantle (purported) gave nice gains.

Where did you buy it, and what brand is it? If it's off of NewEgg, Amazon or NCIX you should be able to RMA it with no problems. Could be a video ram error or something.

Some days Blue wonders why anyone ever bothered making numbers so small; other days she supposes even infinity needs to start somewhere.

It's an ASUS one I bought off ebuyer.

I think this card would probably work in any PC that isn't mine (that seems to happen to me a lot). I dunno if I'm gonna have to come up with a reason why I want to return it and "i cannot for the life of me install the drivers" seems like it might not cut it?

Wait, did you check websites for drivers to install? I can try and walk you through that tomorrow, if you haven't.

Bah, humbug. I was hoping for an easy fix.

I remember the last graphics driver I had kept crashing the computer and it was due to some really weird thing like me downloading the package installer rather than a specific driver one.

Have you tried the Asus one? They list version 13.25 while AMD has 14.4 up. I've had issues in the past with HIS cards where I had to use the drivers from the HIS website instead of the AMD site.
