if we stay in portland after I graduate I want to live in town instead of in the suburbs

but I am looking at apartments and they are like 2200 for a 3 bedroom

    that is a lot : (

that apartment has two more bedrooms for ~1/3rd my rent

yes I know housing in NYC is expensive

Any place you want to live is probably going to not be inexpensive. Because if you want to live there, there's probably a reason and those reasons will appeal to others. Demand goes up, supply doesn't, so the price goes up

housing supply does actually fluctuate though

skipps forrealtho I would have loved to stay in the city longer but even a 3 bedroom condo in a reasonable part of town was pushing $500k so kinda gotta make the hard choices

    the suburbs are laaaaaaaame

my neighborhood is this cute little area with all of these huge 100 year old trees and stuff

but it is also full of retired olds and people who care too much about having a nice lawn and

Buy a small island off the coast of Canada

skippy needs to be exiled yes

Is it exile when you go live somewhere better?

Like...can you be exiled from Mississippi?

You can be banished from Georgia. Well, it is unconstitutional under the GA constitution to banish a person from the state, but the state supreme court decided that banishing a person from every county except one didn't count. They usually choose Toombs county because it is a rural county with 26,067 people. The county seat has a population of 4,367.

Damn, two kids in an apartment seems like it would be cramped. Though I've always thought having kids in an apartment was kinda odd in general.

You can do it. In general, we are kinda spoiled with our concepts of living space and how much is really necessary.

That being said, when the tykes are really young you get a lot more sleep when they can have their own bedrooms.

    edited September 2014
My mom calls me at work in a panic. She's been ignoring "enter your password" dialogs for a month and now she has 46 emails in her outbox and everyone is telling her she never replies to their emails. She couldn't give me a coherent answer about which account, what the dialogs said, or what her password was. I get a team viewer session up after 5 minutes of talking her through downloading and opening the thing. Used keychain access to recover the password (ty apple) and pasted it into all the places that need it. Took 30 seconds.

If this ever happens to me with my kids I'll die. Gotta keep up with technology every day, never stop, what's this, Windows beta builds? Sign me up. Brain implants? Get it in here. Early nanomachine adopter coming through.

Well they're not called resumes so there's that

My impression is that in the US you're supposed to put in more stuff about what you're like personally: personal statements, goals, etc. with an element of "selling yourself". A UK CV would be pretty factual: where you worked, what you did, lists of relevant academic achievements, competencies, areas of experience, etc.

Of course I have no particular experience of what is involved in applying for jobs in the USA, so
