So, I feel this topic probably warrants discussion, beyond the craptastic SE++ thread that has gone on for six pages without a reasonable explanation.
In simple terms: Why was Linksville shut down and why was it done without warning? Is it too much to ask that Linksville's regular readers and posters get a straight answer?
As much as it is an Admins right to shut a forum down without a user vote, it is just as much their right to do so without giving said users any reason.
Discussion? Forumer input? What do you think this is, a democracy?
What about Of Dice and Men? That forum is just gone, not locked. What happened there? Both of these things happenin so soon... whats happening to my PA?!?

It isn't gone, it just got moved out of the Forum Communities section into the On-Topic Forums sevtion.

Seriously... graphic violence, writer's block and artist's corner all get less traffic than linksville. Many of the amusing links don't fit in G&T or D&D, and SE++ is, frankly, a cesspool. I don't see an obvious reason to lock it, disregarding the "no one goes there lol" comments.

Profile -> Signature Settings -> Hide signatures always. Then you don't have to read this worthless text anymore.

Stop making reasonable arguments. You're not a mod therefore your opinion doesn't matter.
SuperSaiyanGoku47/Frank's solution to SE being allowed to post links to things was to demand his forum be shut down while it was still being used on a regular basis, so that it wouldn't just burn out and disappear.
If you were a cynical individual you might call him a defeatist pansy, because there's no reason to necessarily assume that it wouldn't survive, or you might point out that closing the forum AFTER it fell out of use, rather than while it was still in use might have been a better way to avoid pissing off the people whose sake you were modded for specifically.
But hey, I'm not a cynical guy, so I won't actually say that. I'mma lock this until an admin decides that having this discussion here is a good idea and unlocks it. In the meantime, air your grievances via PM, it's the appropriate venue, not the Monkey Den.

I honestly can't read any of these threads without getting emotional, so I'll just post this (sorry, hambone);
SuprSaiyanGoku47: Delete Linksville
WhipstitchZombie: seriously?
SuprSaiyanGoku47: I want you to remove it
SuprSaiyanGoku47: yes
WhipstitchZombie: Okay
WhipstitchZombie: Why?
SuprSaiyanGoku47: I would rather have my forum go out while it still has life in it
SuprSaiyanGoku47: rather than be stamped out by the mighty fist that is SE
WhipstitchZombie: Then where will you mod?
SuprSaiyanGoku47: either in the WoW forum, or no where
SuprSaiyanGoku47: making an announcement
WhipstitchZombie: I locked it, but you should be able to still make your announcement
WhipstitchZombie: leaving it locked for a few days will give people the chance to gather what they want
WhipstitchZombie: I've always given forums on the outs this moratorium time
SuprSaiyanGoku47: thanks
WhipstitchZombie: I'm going to be honest with you
WhipstitchZombie: I think this is the right move
WhipstitchZombie: the forums have moved on to a place where a division specifically for links and nothing eles is just a bit too specified, to the point where it'll get next to no traffic
WhipstitchZombie: whether or not the links threads stayed in SE or not, I think the ville was going this way
SuprSaiyanGoku47: same here

In short, it was deemed that a state of affairs that has continued for around three years was suddenly an imminent danger to Linksville and worthy of a huge hissy fit.

Or at least, that's what they think.

It's still there, it just moved up the index.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

They can. But I may as well ask and hope that they don't act like dicks about it.
I wish you luck in your endeavor, but I wouldn't be too hopeful.

Yeah, I know.
How could a community possibly exist outside of SE++?
I blame Whippy
I thought Linksville was just youtube links and posts about how old something is.
Communities are outdated. I welcome the day our cyborg overlords assimilate us into their collective.
No linksville
Oh
