You're also going to need something to track nutrition information. I'd suggest this book or if you have an iOS device, this app.

Also, best advice I can give you is this: use this as an excuse to make healthy decisions. Make annual appointments with your all doctors (optometrist, dentist, ect.), choose socks that fit well and don’t cut off circulation. These are little things, and really everyone should be doing these things, but especially when you're in a high risk category.

Also, he shouldn't forget to hook up his SNES and play a game of Captain Novolin, everybody's favorite Diabetic superhero.

Here's hoping for the gritty reimagining.

When people unite together, they become stronger than the sum of their parts.
Don't assume bad intentions over neglect and misunderstanding.

    Also doesn't that get expensive?

    I don't think anyone's saying it's a good thing

It just grinds my gears that people are often ready to diagnose someone with a mental disorder like alcoholism based on one number, as opposed to a pattern of behavior and feelings. It hasn't so much happened in this thread but terms like "alcoholism" have specific definitions that I don't want to dilute.

though we all have pretty low blood pressure as a whole. (i donated blood today, I was 108/62).

just to be clear i was not referring to the amount as why it sounded like an "alcoholic post"

    it was this:
Unfortunately, being a single dude, that "few beers" started to increase slowly over the past few years until I found myself drinking about 16 beers on both Friday and Saturday while playing 6 hour long multi-player sessions. That kind of became my routine, and I'm a huge fan of routine.

Weird how things can start off fairly insignificant, and they slowly spiral to the point of absurdity.

    that part

and it was offhand and kinda flippant, not using the full gravity of "alcoholic", not trying to diagnose him

    just

    sayin'

You could do 40 beers a week for pretty cheap if you got shitty beer in 30 packs. A 30 pack of shitbeer costs like 15 bucks.

40 beers a week meets almost every medical definition of alcohol abuse. Honestly that is a lot of extra carbs, just fixing that would likely greatly improve your glucose control.

Also listen to Stale and Dru their advice is 100% on the mark.

I remembered this post I made two years ago when I was diagnosed with diabetes and was pretty pissed off. Did a Google search and sure enough, here it is.

Just thought it'd be fun to post an update. When I was diagnosed two years ago, my a1c was 9.0. Normal a1c testing for an individual is somewhere between 4.5 and 5.5. Between 5.5 and 6.5 is considered pre-diabetic. Anything higher is considered diabetic.

I just had my blood work done on Friday and I'm sitting at 6.1. Not perfect, but a hell of a lot better than I was two years ago.

Better still is that I feel better. I really do. I don't get tired in the afternoons anymore. I used to get so exhausted everyday after work. Now I feel great until bedtime. I don't get thirsty all the time. I'm not peeing every five seconds. And I honestly feel like I'm just a happier person. Being tired all the time made me grumpy and depressed. Now I just get grumpy when I lose a match in titanfall. I'm pretty sure even my co-workers like me more now. We go hiking a lot and play Destiny together. It's great.

Seriously though, I'm happy I found this post. It makes me feel good to look back at how ridiculous I was being two years ago, feeling sorry for myself and all that. Glad I eventually snapped out of it. Kinda makes me proud. Go me. :-)
