Why was this incarnation of Spider-Man chosen? It's not as if the current Spider-Man is overpowered compared to some other heroes in this tournament. Was it simply to give Spidey fanbois an excuse to save face while admitting that, yes, Spider-Man really can't beat Wonder Woman (the humiliation! She has boobs and everything!) publicly, while privately claiming that it was only because an old and outdated version of Spidey was used that he lost?

Shoe nominated this version because symbiote spidey had enhanced powers, giving him a better shot at advancing.

And nobody is going to claim that Spidey can beat Wonder Woman, what the hell is wrong with you?

Also Deadpool's mind is basically fixed right now. He's still a lunatic, just a normal kind.

Really if all a person can do is hide from everyone else I don't thinkt hey deserve to advance. Just hiding as a civilian and not even trying to fight should be a disqualification.

The fact his wiki more or less says he's not a good fighter clinched it for me.

About Rogue: Does anything say she can't absorb some other mutant's powers before the fight?

I'd like to imagine John going out in a blaze of glory, like literally. I say he lights himself on fire with a cig and tackles Spidey.

Also, apostrophes are your friend.....so are capital letters......and punctuation.

According to SoB all fighters are 'reset' to their base states before the match. I would say no.

That's his problem. Dr. Strange can summon up all sorts of shit in 5 minutes. Constantine isn't a super-hero sorcerer, 20 minutes is not enough time for him to do much of anything. He would have to hope the other 3 continue fighting for a while to give him the time he needs.

Thats more or less what I thought. My vote for Rogue didn't hinge on this though. I imagine bringin a mutant along to absorb powers from doesn't quite qualify as "equipment". :P

Here's something I'm wondering about. Symbiote Spidey once fought Firelord, the former herald of Galactus, and won. So should we really even be considering the fire weakness?

Also, how experienced is Rogue with her new powers? Is she good enough with them that she can utilize them effectively, or is she still adjusting to them? I don't read X-Men comics, so I don't really know.

    A) The real John is blonde and was modeled after Sting supposedly. I know you meant the movie version but I just wanted to do a "The More You Know" thing.
    B) Summoning Demons takes hours and requires amazingly rare ingredients and they would probably kill a ton of civvies.

I think we've all agreed the Firelord thing never happened.

Rogue's had her fire powers for a while now (definitely pre-HoM), although it doesn't seem to be long enough for people to know she's got them.

Look, Spidey has taken out heavyweights before. He's pretty intelligent, and anything he doesn't know about his opponents he's gonna figure out pretty quickly. He's pals with Doctor Strange, so he knows a few things about magic, and Deadpool is not in his league. The only reason I put Rogue over him is because her powers are something the symbiote would be specifically weakened by. If this was normal Spidey, he could certainly deal with her with no problems.

Spidey has taken out heavyweights before.

And he's also been taken out by lightweights, especially in his earlier years.

I don't see how being friends with Doctor Strange helps you deal with magic. Magic kicks Spider-Man's ass whenever the two meet, and knowing Doctor Strange only helps in the sense that it gives Spider-Man someone to run to.

"They're not in the same league" doesn't really prove anything unless you can prove they aren't in the same league. Deadpool has his share of humiliating moments, but Spider-Man has countless more. Also, Deadpool doesn't have an exploitable weakness.

Yeah, but usually coming back later entails waiting for the second fight. There is no second fight here.

More embarassing moments? Than searching for bullet casings in vats of poo, when the murdered man wasn't shot?

    Guys, Shoe likes Spider-Man.

    august on
Pac Man's character is difficult to explain even to the Japanese -- he is an innocent character. He hasn't been educated to discern between good and evil. He acts more like a small child than a grown-up person. Think of him as a child learning in the course of his daily activities. If someone tells him guns are evil, he would be the type to rush out and eat guns. But he would most probably eat any gun, even the pistols of policemen who need them.

If spider-man can handle the avoiding the human torch, iceman, and cyclops, I think he can handle avoiding rogue.
