You there, the one reading this thread, what did you think of the internet in 2014? Here we go again for the 8th year in a row.
So what happened this year, eh?
CELEBRITIES HAD NUDE PHOTOS LEAKED AND IDIOTS ON REDDIT GAVE IT A CREEPY NAME.
The North Koreans hacked Sony for an end of the year surprise, even got a major motion picture pulled from being released.
ISIS did some garbage and utilized the internet to spread terror, that sure sucked.
The Ice Bucket Challenge.. some protest stuff.. hmmm
Gangnam hit 1 billion views, new universe record on Youtube.
What else?

Yeah - I think the Sony thing was the biggest event. Aside from all the gossip that was released from it and the unreleased movies that came from it - it forced a fairly high profile movie to release digitally instead of theatrically which could have interesting fallout.
