Finally saw PGR4 the other day.

My god, it has to have the most clean and accurate reflections i've ever seen in any racer ever. Forza's reflections were kinda jagged, but PGR's is just stunning. Bizarre need to teach this method to all 360 developers.

Indeed. I've been perusing the PGR4 thread over at NeoGAF, and among the shots posted there is this gem; look closely, because the reflections are just stunning:

    Stunning.

From what I've read in a dev diary is that it simply takes a picture of the sourroundings every frame and applies it to the model, instead of relying just on pixel shaders, kinda like a real-time cube map.

Don't get me wrong about Half life 2 - Half Life 2's reflections use pre rendered area boxes that don't reflect everything (except the water), it they used the gotham method the reflections would be just supurb.

Those importing the game, all two of us, should be aware that the game went from being confirmed as region free title to 'I have no fucking clue'. And the fun bit? My copy was shipped out two days ago :(

It's region free, at least the NTSC version will play on PAL as I imported it also and it's running quite nicely at the moment.

GAH! I should've mentioned. The Asia/Japanese version is what I was referring to. Kinda serves me right for wanting to save £3. Every penny counts though, especially with so many friggin games being released.

If NTSC is region free it's normally a pretty good indication that the Asian version will be too, I shouldn't worry.

Who's sick idea was it to put a race in the game that involves a 1950's open wheeled race car and a track in Nuremburg in 9:14seconds in the goram snow! LOL.

I figured out how to handle the monster by 8 minutes into the race but I couldn't do better then 9:30seconds.

Something that bothers me about PGR4, you can't choose to restart a race after you finish (badly). I always have to press start and restart the race before the timer runs out or I am screwed.

So, rented this today. Going to have to buy this one. So far I'm working my way up the career ladder, but I don't much care for the cone challenges. I've never been too good at those. I finally figured out the kudos drift only challenge after MANY restarts. Still working my way on up and so far, this is just what I remember from PGR 2, but improved and the weather is AWESOME. I need to finally see some nurburgring goodness.

Also also, I didn't know PGR4 put the Atom in the game. Huzzah!

This track is beautiful. The first drive through was incredible to take all of it in. Really a feeling no other racing game has produced in me before. The vista, the sound, the early morning setting on an empty snow covered track, everything just made this sunday morning drive so refreshing and fun. It had me grinning the whole time I was racing it, until I realized just how hard it is to control that little red single seater sports car on an icy road! I finally beat it in like 8:38 or something like that, which took many restarts.

So far I am really liking PGR 4 a lot. Oh, and Geometry Wars: waves is pretty awesome too. I'm not sure what I am ranked now but yesterday I was ranked 29th with a score of ~2.9 million.

I finally got this snowy Nurburgring under my belt last night. That track really is hard! I managed to get it my third try and yes, that open wheeled car on a snowy track that's tough to start with is really really hard. Of course, what can one expect with an invitational that starts with "Did cars really handle like this?" It really was an AMAZING setting though, the sun reflecting so bright off the road at some points it was hard to see. It really was an amazing, and tough race. Learning to keep the stupid car on the road is the challenge, once you do that, you have plenty of time. Gosh I love that track so much. Needs to be getting some cat and mouse on once I unlock a few more cars to actually be somewhat competitive. I'm at a point now where I need some cars to really advance in the amateur campaign since the D-Type isn't accelerating fast enough and the truck just tops out too soon.

To teach you how to drive. Starting off on those, for me anyway, really helped figure out how to earn kudos. There are certain races where you have to earn a specific type of kudos to win, or you have to get so many kudos stars, or, my latest one, you have to continuously earn kudos to stop the clock and finish with the lowest time.

It's was very, very hard for me to do, but you get it eventually. Plus the invitationals to earn the special cars.

Well, what I meant was that is there any time in the game where you get to throw 'em around again. In fact, I think career mode actually starts you in Class E (with the Cosworth and the Camaro and a few other rides I stopped bothering with once I unlocked the Esprit).

I think the different races flip between different car classes to be honest. If that's the answer to your question. Each different set of races uses different classes of cars. I've seen them flip all the way up to D class on amateur.

I picked this up and so far I'm a little disappointed. There are just too many weird race types for me. I want to RACE, and it seems I have to do 5 kudos/cone/speed/whatever races between each street race.

Maybe it has a bit to do with the fact that the only thing I can regularly beat the AI at is street racing...

That's what PGR has always been, and why a lot of people love the series. What did you expect?

You could always race online if you wanted to just do street races.

I have a good few niggles with the game.
    1. It takes far too long to get into the gameplay. Too many freaking menus.
    2. Weather effects seem to be visual only and feel like they're affecting the actual gameplay ('cept maybe limiting your vision)
    3. Why aren't my career event times saved and put into a leaderboard? Doesn't make sense.
    4. I have to buy car packs. *groans* This is not Live Marketplace.
    5. Did I mention the dozen menus I gotta scroll through to get to where I want go?

But it doesn't matter, because I'm having far too much fun riding the inside line of a track in Tokyo at night time making the gap between the car on my right and the cold steel barrier on my left. Basically, it feels right.
