Snowgorok 2015: The Iceman Cometh (Baby it's cold outside)

JoeUserJoeUser Forum SantaRegistered User regular
Hey everyone, if you live in the parts of the US that get snow, you have probably gotten a lot of it this season! It seems to be especially bad in New England, where I am. We're covered in snow, and there is nowhere to put it!

How have you been coping with all the snow? If you're in a place without snow, can you tell us if the sun still exists?

Here's a picture of my driveway during the big blizzard; it is much worse now.

There is about four feet of snow on my front lawn.

At its height, near the street, it's more like eight feet.

Some supervillain needs to invent a weather control machine post-haste.

I live in Colorado, about 20 minutes south of Denver.
This time of year I should be griping about snow, and ice packed roads and not being able to get out my front door because the snow has drifted up and blocked it shut.

Instead, it was nearly 70 degrees out today.

We had snow here last week. It might have reached a depth of almost one centimetre in parts of the moor.

It all melted by 10am and it's been relatively warm since, but it was fun while it lasted.

Boston Breaks 30-Day Snowfall Record Set In 1978
Boston has broken yet another snowfall record during an unprecedented streak of snowstorms.

The city’s 30-day snowfall through 7 a.m. Monday was 61.6 inches, beating the previous record of 58.8 inches for the same amount of time in 1978, the National Weather Service confirmed.

Up to two feet of snow was expected in Boston by Tuesday morning.

Oddly enough, here in Minnesota the snow has been very light.

Though we are supposed to get somewhere between 1 and 5 inches throughout today.

We can ship you a bunch of snow! They're really running out of places to put it.

Yeah, the real bad part isn't really even that it's not raining on the coast, it's that it's not snowing in the Sierras. The snowpack is currently like 20% of normal. We've had a couple of decent storms so far this winter, but it's been so warm that it hasn't snowed except at real high elevations (like above 8,000 feet).

So even if you could give us your snow, it would all just melt. :?

    Whee

Another Powerful Storm Threatens New England
Here is where two possibilities still exist.

#1) We catch just the beginning stages of this rapid development and get “fringed” by some light, but likely plowable snow in Eastern Massachusetts. This is currently the more likely scenario, however we cannot rule out. . .

#2) The whole system isn’t quite as progressive and it literally explodes in the perfect spot (the sweet spot, 40/70) for New England storms. We feel the full rage of this nor’easter, get blizzard conditions Thursday night into Friday, strong and damaging winds and a boatload of new snow.

Our forecast for this week has gone back and forth as far as snowfall amounts. Earlier the forecasters were calling for around a foot of snow between Thursday and Saturday. Then it was just flurries all week. Now it's like 1-3" on Saturday.

We got a shit ton in Chicago a couple weeks ago.

Last weekend it was in the 40's, and it all started melting.

On Monday it got cold again, so all the melting snow turned into black ice.

I don't know anymore, I just commute while cursing under my breath.
