Thanks for catching that for me. There was a change in the time between when I posted it, and when it got sent out. We don't want people standing outside in the cold for very long, so we have moved it to 8:30AM instead of 8:00AM.

As much as I absolutely love JS Joust (like I will play that all PAX long if you want), I'm not sure if the BYOC area is a great place to do it at. There are some space limitations.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking as well.

Setting it to 8:30 seems to me people will be waiting 30 minutes longer not shorter. If you let people in at 7:30 then that's 1/2 less wait. Sorry don't see this as being helpful just 1/2 less setup time.

    Hi everyone, MeatWhisle here:

Few things, I wanted to introduce myself as part of the team that is helping with BYOC this year.

Wanted to remind everyone to have games loaded an patched prior to arrival, it would also be prudent to do a A/V scan prior to leaving and if your running any internet sharing or DHCP servers please disable them.

    Onto the topic of games.

We currently have contests based on the following games, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2, League of Legends, MineCraft, MS Paint, Goat Sim.

We also expect to have "Game of the Hour" based around DOTA2, TF2, L4D2, Diablo 3, Robot Unicorn Attack, StarCraft2.

Dont see something you want, feel free to let us know, and as always if our planned activity is not your cup of tea your welcome to do your own thing.

For those of you staying at the Westin, you've got a bit of a walk...sorry about that! Go straight from the skybridge connecting the Westin and the BCEC and down the escalator. Keep going the same direction through North Lobby and around the Northwest corner of the building. Keep following the hallway until you get to "Southwest Lobby B2". This will be the second lobby you come to, just past the food court. From there you can make use of either the RIGHT escalator or the elevator down to the PC Room level (Level 0/ Hall Southwest C1).

Is this path from the Westin skybridge to SW Lobby B2 entirely inside? I don't know the area, but would like to confirm if I have to bundle up or not when I roll out of bed Friday morning! #FirstWorldProblems

    Thanks.

The westin path will be indoors the whole way. I'm going from memory and a very simplified map here, but I think this is the path you take, the stairs don't exactly line up on the maps.

Thanks for the map @macrogeek. Well put.

There are some logistical issues that we're going to be dealing with on Friday morning, that I need to ask all BYOC Participants to be patient with us. There is uncertainty as to what time the Westin Skywalk bridge will open to the convention center because of BCEC/Boston Police desire for bag checks. That skybridge may not open at 8AM.

For @Politician, you're right it may seem as though the reality is you'll be staying out there 30 minutes longer. The reality is, I don't think that will be the case. In years past, we've had issues getting the Southwest Doors open right at 8AM which has caused for some minor tension issues with the kind folks trying to keep traffic moving at the convention center. In an attempt to set proper expectations, the door will most definitely be open by 8:30AM. All signs are pointing that it will be open BEFORE that time, but we wanted to make sure you guys were aware of the time change and that proper expectations are set. :)

I'm downloading the Unreal Tournament Alpha build if anyone wants to play.
(they made Unreal Engine 4 free as of GDC so more people can download the toolkit to run it w/o needing a paid dev account.)

My friend is coming to BYOC this year but arriving later in the day Friday (I'll be there early in the Morning). Is there any way once I check in to have them hold a seat to my left or right for him once he arrives? Or am I just SOL and hope for the best?

I would not bring a mutitool, bag checks may be in place and it could be confiscated.

Is the path macrogeek outlined accessible before 0800, before the event officially opens? I get the feeling the hallways are 'open' all the time, but never hurts to ask even if I look foolish. :) I enter a lot of premises for my job and I don't take anything for granted any longer, been burned many a time.

I personally am not going to have an issue if the Skybridge does not open immediately at 0800. I mean, as long as it opens at some time prior to 0802.
I'll be good as long as we can, at some point, enter via the Skybridge without having to be escorted to a security check point to be bag checked. :)
Nor am I going to sweat or complain about security procedures, better be safe than sorry is a motto I live by.

    Thanks for the answers!

It definitely won't be an issue finding one. Tons of people bring extras. I'd offer mine but I had to lend it out already..

On another note, does anybody have a USB extender? I'd only need to borrow it until tomorrow. F29, The case is a Bitfenix Prodigy M with a Steam decal on it.
