something that does worry me is this statement from DC:

    http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/dc-comics-cancels-batgirl-joker-variant-at-artists-request
We publish comic books about the greatest heroes in the world, and the most evil villains imaginable. The Joker variant covers for June are in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the Joker.

Regardless if fans like Rafael Albuquerque’s homage to Alan Moore’s THE KILLING JOKE graphic novel from 25 years ago, or find it inconsistent with the current tonality of the Batgirl books - threats of violence and harassment are wrong and have no place in comics or society.

We stand by our creative talent, and per Rafael’s request, DC Comics will not publish the Batgirl variant. – DC Entertainment

I don't like that the criticism of the cover is being linked to "threats of violence and harassment". I hate that any disagreement on the internet these days seems to draw in people, whether trolls or honest zealots, who poison the well with behavior like that.

    update on this:

this is good to know. I wonder what the deal is with those "threats of violence".

It was perhaps mentioned here a long time ago but I really like the idea of Vandal Savage as a Wonder Woman villain.

I'll admit I didn't much like that sequence in the book. It's not that I disagreed. It just felt like it only happened to make an argument at the reader instead of to have a thing in the book, and guys?

I grabbed the Thor relaunch with a woman as Thor. I've picked up four more issues after that. I am all onboard for a lady Thor. There is no need to lecture me on how it's fine and/or try and make me feel superior to people who do take issue.

Just give me the story you wanted to write! It's cool! I'm already sold!
I could be wrong here but I thought it was a less then subtle jab at the new WW creative team.

the complete lack of subtlety is what makes it bad

like if those panels were my only exposure to thor, i would think it was a badly written comic

but then i also feel that every use of thought balloons in comics for the last twenty years has been bad

it really feels like shes talking directly to the viewer which is

yeah its an important message but it sticks out like a sore thumb

It's directly addressing an issue women have to deal with. If they did Thor: Goddess of Thunder and pretended that her life was going to be the same as if she was a man, I'd be pretty unimpressed. Instead they're having her deal with real problems the other Thor wouldn't have to, and having her deal with it in a very Thor manner as opposed to treating those differences like something that holds her back. She's breaking through the assholes who don't think women can do important work, and not letting their attitude hold her back.

Really it isn't any different than this.

the difference is that that is well-written and the thor page is not

Are you talking about that small part of the Thor page in the tweet or the actual Thor page? Because I don't see anything wrong with the writing when the whole thing is seen.

The Untitled CW Team-Up show got a few more details dropped:
It was being described as a love letter to team/ensemble films like The Magnificent Seven or Ocean's 11 as opposed to "lone gunman" type stories like Arrow and Flash.
The team will be disparate and not super similar to each other, with a really rag tag vibe.
The primary villain will be a major DC villain the neither Flash nor Arrow have utilized.
The three new heroes were chosen for their popularity and people will be "very excited" when the identity of the female hero is revealed.

Sounds a lot more like a proper Justice League/Society show instead of an anthology series like some predicted

    So I'm guessing (Arrow Spoilers)

I enjoy it because it makes her distinct from Thor Odinson and Beta Ray Bill and whatnot

If it is Roz Solomon, and it like 99.5% is, then she shouldn't sound and act just like Thor Odinson did, because she isn't Asgardian.

It's the same thing that happened when Donald Blake was Thor, the only difference is that Roz wasn't a creation of Odin, she was her own woman before she became Thor.

I love the current Thor series but the scene with Absorbing Man and Titania felt suuuuuuper forced

Like it is fine addressing the fact that some men are gonna be shitty to a female Thor but everything about the scene felt like a giant WE'RE TALKING ABOUT YOU SHITTY COMIC FAN MISOGYNISTS sign was flashing over each page

It didn't feel like a natural part of the story which is a big part of handling messages like that well in a comic, or any story for that matter.

In some versions, yeah, he was a fake person his son was meant to live as that eventually took on his own personality and became his own man beyond Thor

Others he was a normal dude who shared his mind/body with Thor after finding StickMjolnir

And others he was just an identity Thor made up

I admit, I had a cheap laugh at the villain from that Thor comic going all "THOR IS A WOMAN NOW? FEMINISTS RUIN EVERYTHING"

I can appreciate the effort to take an obnoxious argument and allow a superheroine to punch it in the face, but the way it was handled in the comic kinda felt a bit too much like a Sinfest strip.

Vandal Savage's status as someone that's claimed to be about a hundred different historical figures might make casting him as a non-white dude kind of difficult, I think.

I don't think ghengis Kahn, khafra, or cheops were white
