The Official PA Warframe Player List!

This OP brought to you by a pitcher of Alaska Summer Ale and the bar on the M/V Taku where I wrote this.

What is Warframe?
Warframe is a free to play, 3rd person co-op shooter, developed by Digital Extremes on the Evolution Engine and is available for PC and the PS4. In Warframe you play as a member of the Tenno, a group of highly skilled space ninjas armed with everything from swords and guns to magic like powers. The Tenno run an assortment of missions throughout the solar system that range from simple extermination missions to having to capture high value targets. You can play all of the missions alone, with your buddies, or with completely random pickup groups and they can be approached however you want. Whether you want to try and sneak through with stealth weaponry or just start setting the entire place on fire with your flamethrower Warframe has something for everyone’s play style!
Warframe is also big on customization. Both your weapons and your frames can be altered to have different properties by using the mods that you get from running missions. You can make your bow shoot exploding arrows or turn your frame into a power spamming artillery cannon.
Warframe will feature Crossplay allowing the PC and PS4 groups to play together in the future. Sadly, due to some technical issues it wasn’t ready to for the PS4 launch so right now the two communities will be split. Stay tuned for updates regarding this feature!
TLDR: It’s like Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer with a lot of the really stupid shit taken out and space ninja country gravy poured on.

The quick start guide for space ninjas that just want to go slit some throats right fucking now.
1.) Get Warframe installed via Steam or the PS Store
2.) Create an account
3.) After logging in with your minty fresh account you will play through a short tutorial and will need to select a starter frame. They break down as follows:
Excalibur – Excalibur is an all-around solid frame that focuses heavily on punching and shooting things in the face. His powers all revolve around getting in and kicking the shit out of the bad guys and in the case of Slash Dash, doing both at the same time. For a long time he was the top recommendation for newer players, but Mag’s buffs have made her a much more attractive choice. Regardless, he’s still one of the easiest frames to get into the game with thanks to his straightforward powers and great durability.
Loki - The fastest frame in the game and the stealthiest, Loki specializes in blasting through levels at a high speed while avoiding the enemy entirely or just shanking them all in the back. Complete with all the stealth tricks you could want, including the ability to deploy a decoy, Loki can zip right through areas without a scratch. If you plan on playing by yourself a lot Loki can be a very good starter frame pick, but he’s only about average in a group and his naturally high movement speed means you can keep accidently outpacing the rest of the group.
Mag - A caster frame through and through, Mag is probably the funniest frame in the game to watch at work due to her Pull power ragdolling entire packs of enemies. While not an inherently durable frame hitpoint wise she can still give zero fucks about the opposition thanks to her ability to essentially Force Pull entire packs of bad guys to the ground and her ability to redirect shots being fired at her does a lot to keep her up and running. Mag is a very solid starter pick and her powers scale wonderfully well into the high level areas.
4.) The game will then direct you to the very first mission. Start tearing through Mercury and have fun!
5.) Buy the Braton (not the Mk.1, the other one) as soon as possible! The starter Mk.1 is a piece of crap that you will quickly outgrow. The regular Braton will serve you well for a while and can be easily purchased with a few credits.

The Great Playstation 4 Information Center - Courtesy of super Tenno bro @Hahnsoo1
1.) When you download Warframe (it's free!), you also download a patch automatically. After booting the title with the patch, then you download an update in-game (about 250MB) before you start to play. Occasionally, this third download (the update in-game) will hardlock your PS4. Fortunately, there is a download cache so you don't lose any progress, but when this occurs, you'll have to hold your power button for 30 seconds to power off your system. Don't pull your power cable unless there is no other alternative.
2.) PS Plus users can download a free Starter Pack (you can find this separately at the "PlayStation Store") which includes 100 Platinum, 50,000 credits, a few free Mods (Falcon Mod pack), and 3 day Affinity/Credit booster.
3.) There is currently a bug in which you cannot select a stack of more than 1 in your Inventory to sell. D'oh! You can sell a single blueprint just fine, but a stack of, say, 4 blueprints appears to not work. You can press L1 and R1 to change the stack size, but there is no way to select OK or Cancel.
4.) I have not figured out a way to get Party Chat to work with this game. If you are in a Party, you can't hear the in-game Group Chat, either.
5.) Crossplay with PC is not implemented yet, but is coming in the future.
6.) The in-game Friends list is separate from your PS Friends list, so you'll have to add your friends in-game manually. Presumably, this is because of the Crossplay functionality.
7.) To get party chat working: Open a party while the game is running and shut off the in-game chat in the options. Set the Chat Audio Priority to the Party in the Party screen.

The Space Knights of Arcadia – The official Penny Arcade PC clan!
The Space Knights Prime Trading Doc! A great list of who has what in the clan available for trading.
Joining a clan in Warframe grants access to the clan dojo. This is a user built base that functions as a physical hangout complete with dick around rooms like an obstacle course to practice your ninja flips in, a dueling room, and much more pertinent facilities like the research labs. Of everything you can build in the dojo the research labs are the most important. They unlock a huge array of weapons and Sentinels that are unavailable through normal means and require a communal effort via resource donation to acquire the blueprints for.
The Space Knights of Arcadia already have the majority of research complete (mostly because the old regulars for this game are insane) so joining up will grant you instantaneous access to all of these features! Joining is as simple as letting us know what your in-game name is in the thread, what system you’re playing on, and one of the veterans will grant you access. While there is decent in-game VOIP we still all hang out on Ventrilo. We may switch to the in-game depending on how Crossplay works out so that both PC and PS4 PA bros can enjoy Kashaar’s sultry German accent and my drunk dick jokes.

We Are Nice Guys – The official Penny Arcade PS4 clan!
For an invite to the shiny new PS4 PA clan, We Are Nice Guys, PM @Nightslyr with your PSN/Warframe name. WANG has its dojo up and running so get out there and start researching more dakka! Note: Clan invites must be manually accepted/denied (options button on the main screen).

@Nightslyr‌ wanted me to let you all know:
I haven't played since late spring last year. I logged in for the last time around Thanksgiving to add someone to the clan, but it was full. I started a barracks in the dojo, but dunno if it's been completed. From what I can tell, clan WANG is essentially defunct.

That said, I did give most of the first 20-30 members full admin powers, so if someone else wants to take over, they likely can right away. I'm not sure if it's possible to actually transfer the clan leader title to another player, or if there are important mechanics that require the title, but I'll transfer it to whomever wants it if that is indeed the case. PM me @Nightslyr if you want the title.

The big list of shit this game doesn’t tell you about.
Ok, it’s not really all that big but there are some important bits of information this game does not tell you about that you’re going to want to know beforehand. The lack of under the hood information is my one big criticism about this game but it is being worked on a little bit and the Codex introduced in Update 11 has done a lot to alleviate this issue. However, there are some things not really well explained or even mentioned so this section is devoted to that information. This list will be constantly updated and if it needs something added to it let me know.
Damage 2.0
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Damage_2.0
That link will tell you everything you need to know about the system and include charts for each faction.

Grouping
Grouping itself is pretty straight forward but what's not mentioned about it is that you can invite someone to your session and they will be able to run missions you have unlocked but they don't. They won't be able to vote so you'll have to wait for the countdown timer to finish but they will be able to enter it with the rest of the party. After the mission is completed that player will then have that mission unlocked and will then be able to start doing all the surrounding missions.

Odds and Ends

Hay, I reelly liek Naruto can I…
NO, GO AWAY!

Wait, where’s the technical support section!?
Because it’s never really been an issue with this game actually. It sounds like the PS4 version might have some peculiarities to it but that is way out of the realm of things I know anything about. As mentioned at the start of this I will need help getting something for the PS4 players together if needed. As far as the PC side of things go this game is actually really damn stable thanks to Digital Extreme’s using their own proprietary engine. Any oddities you run into are 99.999999999% of the time due to a bug we can’t do anything about on the client side of things but DE is very fast about fixing those. The only things worth noting are that you may want to turn off PhysX particles and Bloom since they tend to cause the screen to look like a New Year’s Day fireworks display which can get grating on a small screen, but that’s a matter of personal taste. But really, this game doesn’t have any real technical issues requiring a big ole write up for so that’s that.
If you are having technical issues do not hesitate to ask for help in the thread and if they ever do come up I will be sure to start listing them here and create a proper tech help section. Be sure to submit a ticket at https://support.warframe.com if you are having issues.

Is there a way to track alerts out of game?
Yes there is! Internet denizen King Taro put together a website based alert tracker: http://www.kingtaro.com/warframe/ This tracker will play a sound whenever a new alert goes up and it has the option to filter cash alerts out entirely. There is also a Facebook page, Twitter account, and Android app. Warframe Nexus has yet to launch on iOS.

What is the Design Council?
For a long time Warframe was offering starter packs much like the current one for Ember Prime. The Master and Grand Master packs, however, came with access to what is known as the Design Council. These packs granted access to a forum in which ideas for new frames, new features, and so forth are bounced off the community for feedback. This group of players act essentially as a player based focus group for Digital Extremes to bounce upcoming features off of. For instance, Valkyr was originally presented to us as the Berserker with a very different power list than what she has now. The original concept art they showed us for her also had her a fair bit lither than what she is now. What originally started out as a request from the devs for a third power idea for her ended up as a 60 page discussion about how all four of her powers weren’t very good and how they could be improved. The result is the Valkyr we have now which is proving to be a ton of fun. Occasionally the devs will also give the Council a chance to design a frame or Sentinel that will then get put into the game (Nova and Carrier both came from these sort of sessions). The Design Council also has a dedicated in game chat room but it’s not all that different from the standard global chat though it does tend to be a fair bit more sane due to the aforementioned requirement of having purchased either the Master or Grandmaster packs so everyone tends to lean towards the “adults with lives” side of the demographic.
The devs do read the regular forums and interact with the community there (they even hang out in the game’s global chat regularly) so don’t think your opinion doesn’t matter just because you aren’t in the Council! Warframe is a very community orientedgame and the level of attention everyone gets from DE is one of the things that makes this game as great as it is. There is talk of allowing ways for people to join the Design Council now that the original packs are gone, DE is just trying to figure out a good and fair way to do it that doesn’t result in the Council getting a little too crowded.

Didn’t Digital Extremes make Dark Sector?
Yes they did and that game was originally supposed to be Warframe before, in the grand tradition of the industry, the publishers deemed it “too risky” and completely altered the design of the game. The original trailer for the game looked almost exactly like what we have now. The “hero” of Dark Sector has the last name of Tenno and once he is fully powered up ends up running around in armor that looks a lot like Warframe’s Excalibur frame. The Infested infection is a huge part of the story and even the Lotus’s symbol appears in game. Dark Sector has been confirmed to be part of the overall Warframe story so if you enjoy Warframe a lot it’s recommended to go pick up Dark Sector off Steam or wherever console guys get their 360 and PS3 games from. It’s pretty cheap and fun to play from the angle of seeing how it evolved into Warframe and because it serves as a big chunk of the lore of Warframe. You basically get to be the original Tenno though do be warned, playing Dark Sector will leave you even more curious about wtf is going on in Warframe but discovering the history of everything in this game is proving to be a pretty fun aspect unto itself.
Dark Sector is definitely a bit rough around the edges but dismembering people with the glaive never really gets old. It should run on basically anything these days so give it a go! I hope that Digital Extremes sent a letter back to their old publisher that simply said I TOLD YOU SO with a picture of the devs rolling around on hundred dollar bills, hookers, and blow.

Game Systems – Crafting and the Mod System

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger – The Mod System and You.
The mod system looks daunting and I know this looks like a giant wall of text but it’s all actually pretty simple. Mods are acquired in missions as drops from enemies and from alerts. Nightmare mods are acquired as end of mission rewards from Nightmare missions and Corrupted Mods are earned by accessing the Orokin Vaults in Orokin Derelicts. They essentially function the same way as loot in your average ARPG. They come in three different rarities; common, uncommon, and rare, and every mob in the game has its own drop table from which the mods have a chance to drop. The various bad guys drop specific groups of mods but this is all documented on the Warframe Wiki and via the in-game Codex. All this boils down to for you is that if you want Mod X go to Planet Y that spawns the enemies you need to kill and starting shooting the shit out of things until you get what you want.
So now you have a handful of mods after running your first few missions. To use them, go to your arsenal screen, mouse over one of your weapons, or your Frame and click “UPGRADE.” This will open up the upgrade screen. On the left hand side is where all of your mods are listed and on the right hand side will be the spots where you can play them like cards. To use them simply drag the mod you want to equip onto an open mod slot. As long as you have enough mod points to spend on that card’s value which is listed on the upper left hand corner of the card then you can equip it.

    Mod Points
On upper right side of the screen you’ll see a point total. These are the points used to determine how many mods you can equip and is determined entirely by your Frame or weapon’s level. The max level for every weapon and Frame in the game is 30. For every level you get one mod point unless you have used an Orokin Catalyst or Orokin Reactor (frequently referred to as Potatoes by the Warframe and PA community due to their shape)which then causes every level to give two mod points for a maximum of 60 mod points possible to spend. Orokin Catalysts are used for all weapons and Reactors are used for Warframes and Sentinels. Early on you’ll be primarily using unfused (which will be covered shortly) mods which are cheap to slot so you won’t need to worry about this for now. As you progress through the game and get a favorite frame and weapon or two you’ll highly want to consider getting them Potatoe’d to allow for more powerful, fused mods to be used. These can be purchased from the game market for 20 platinum, obtained from event rewards, and rarely as drops in missions.

    Polarity
On your Warframe you’ll notice that all of your mod cards have a symbol in the upper right hand corner. This is called Polarity and it corresponds with the matching symbol on your Frame and all your weapons. If the symbols match then the cost of equipping that mod is halved. If they’re different than the cost increases by half. DOUBLE CHECK THIS This allows you to slot high level mods at a greatly reduced cost. Aura mods are an exception to this rule and will be covered next.
You can gain additional Polarized slots or even change existing ones by leveling the Frame or weapon you want to alter to its max level of 30 and then applying a Forma to it. This will reset the level of the item to 0 and allow you to either apply or change a Polarity slot. You can repeatedly do this to apply more and more Polarity slots until your chose item is 100% custom set by you. It’s basically Warframe’s version of a Prestige system only there’s an actual point to doing it here since favorite weapons will absolutely need to have this done to them as you level up and max out your mods. Frames tend to not need it since the Aura Mods give them a lot more inherent wiggle room.
Forma is acquired via alerts, and as rewards from Void missions and by the in game market place for 20 platinum.

    Aura Mods
The one exception to all this is the Aura slot. This is the slot on the left hand side of the mod slot section. This slot can only take Aura mods and these are effects that apply to everyone in the part. Some give minor energy regeneration, others boost damage to melee weapons, and so on. They do not subtract from your mod point total but instead add to it. This means that a high level Aura mod can end up giving you a really big bonus to the total points you have to spend on your Frame’s mods. Polarity for Aura mods also works slightly differently. If the Polarity symbols match then the value of the Aurora mod is double and if they don’t match then the value is halved but either way the Aura slot will always add to your total mod points.

    Fusing Mods
As you play, you’ll acquire Fusion Cores, duplicate mods, and eventually mods you just don’t need more of, and this is where the fusing mechanic comes into play. Fusion is the mechanic by which you level up the mods that get equipped onto your Frames and weapons. As mods level up they’ll increase in power, allowing you to tackle progressively harder areas and open up new ways to build your Frame.
To fuse your mods, go into your mod inventory screen by clicking the MODS button in the upgrade page and it’ll present you with all of the mods you have in a variety of categories. You will pay a credit cost for fusing and if you feed enough mods to the base mod, that mod will level up. This increases its effect but also increasing the cost of equipping it. As you level up your mods it will take more and more resources to attain the higher levels of that mod’s power. Some mods are very easy to max out while others take a huge investment to get to their highest power level.
As mentioned before there are three resources you can use for fusing. Fusion Cores drop just like mods do and come in a variety of rarities and quality. The higher ranked and more rare the Fusion mod, the more it contributes to boosting a base mod when fusing. Fusion Cores can be used to level up every mod in the game and the more rare ones are incredibly efficient. Cores drop quite regularly so you’ll damn near always have a bunch of at least common ones to burn through. Generally you’ll want to burn your cores on your rare mods and some of the really vital uncommon ones like Vitality and the Aura mod of your choice. The second way to level your mods up is by fusing duplicate mods together. This is the method used most frequently and is generally pretty efficient. The third way is by fusing different mods together. Rare mods provide twice the fusion power that uncommons do and uncommons have twice that of commons. As long as the polarities are the same then this isn't a bad use of your mods you no longer have any use for. Do not fuse already leveled up mods to another mod doing this though. It's very inefficient and a waste of the leveled up mod.
    IVH1O6z.jpg
Crafting – So you want to knit yourself a gun.
The other big aspect to this game is the crafting system. This is how you can acquire everything in the game completely for free with just a bit of work. This section will cover crafting weapons, frames, and the clan Dojo research labs (you PS4 guys will definitely want to go through the research section since PC and PS4 clans are segregated for now and you’ll be starting fresh with your research).
The process of crafting is pretty straightforward. You need the blueprint for the item which can be acquired either as a mission reward or from the marketplace for credits (no platinum required), the resources required by the item which are earned via drops and as rewards, and in a few cases, a specific item. Go to the Crafting menu and you will see an array of organized tabs that will list your items ready to build and your various blueprints that you own. When you have all of the listed requirements for the item you want to build just click the BUILD button and wait the required length of time.
Frames work a little differently than other items in that they require four different blueprints. The system, chassis, and helmet all need to be acquired by doing runs on the boss level that rewards you with the blueprint you need. The main blueprint is acquired by simply buying it from the market for credits. You then need to build the system, chassis, and helmet and once those are finished you can use the main blueprint to assemble the frame. There are a few frames that are an exception to this due to their blueprint parts dropping as either random mission drops, or as alert rewards.
Weapons, Sentinels, and all the other little knickknacks you can make almost all done the same way. The one big exception being the akimbo pistols that require that you have already built the single version of the pistol in order to build the akimbo version. Outside of that one variation they are crafted the same way as everything else. Just buy the blueprint you need for it and then acquire the materials by running missions on the planet that those materials are listed on. Blueprints will list the materials they require so you can check to see if you already have them before hand which can save you some time. Materials drop from breakable containers, lockers, and from the enemies you kill. They also pop up as rewards in the alerts that happen constantly, however you have to have the area that the alert is in unlocked so until you’ve got some time invested in the game alerts aren’t that frequent.
Clan Research adds another level to this process by making the blueprints available only in the clan dojo and only once they’ve been researched. The research process is a communal job that involves donating resources to each progressive level of item research. Everyone in the clan contributes to these projects and when the total amount required is collected it’s a simple matter of waiting for the research to finish. It’s basically a lot like building an item only everyone in the clan is doing it and the final result is the ability to generate as many blueprints as you want from that research. These BPs are NOT available in the market and the weapons they create CANNOT be purchased for Platinum. If you want that sexy as fuck Ignis flamethrower you have to work for it.

So Tac Alert Blackout involves you doing a deception mission and it's really easy since there are no enemies....

up until you complete the objective and up to 75 Grineer Manics spawn (depending on how many people there are in squad) and try to dumpster you.

Blackout 3 caps your Warframes at 50 energy against level 60-80 Manics regardless of how much flow or Prime you have, so be forewarned and run max efficiency mods.

@Citizen Kupo , TurboJoe, @alternatingAberration, and I managed to complete the 3rd Blackout with a Nova, Frost, Limbo, Loki composition, mostly relying on M Prime and Snowglobe slows to keep them in place long enough to kill them.

Also after the Manics spawn you can run around and hack the MOA cabinets that are around, getting anywhere from level 800-5600 MOAs that help you fight the manics. Great fun!

OP wise, in the quick starting guide section, starter frames listed are incorrect. It still lists Loki instead of Volt.

A lesser thing to be looked at is that the mod section is also off, since it mentions things like mod points being on the upper right, and mods on the left side of the screen. The bit about potatoes in the mod points section could also be cleaned up for clarity's sake, specifically with how it says they can be obtained "rarely as drops in missions." I'm assuming that's in reference to alerts, but it kind of implies that you can find them lying around like resources.

Hmm. Some new weapons. The AkSomati look exciting (though they require akstilettos to build), with good crit chance and mulitiplier. The Dual raza though are super ugly. So ugly that even though I like the stats I don't think I'll get them.

It's funny, I still have my original kubrow from when the feature launched, and compared to the "revamped" body types they did a couple patches later, he's tiny.

Fucks sake, why do devs STILL tie things to FPS? Dark Souls 2 does this as well and it's not a good thing there either.

Hey I'm new to the forums and warframe but have been reading PA for a long time and figured if there's a PA clan for WOW there's probably one for Warframe so here I am =D

Is there anything special I need to do to qualify for an invite? I'd love to play with some people who are friendly and cool so hope I'm in the right place!

My name on warframe is same as on here "torsoreaper" and I'm on PC.

    THANKS!!

Dark souls 2 does it for easier timing with iframes and such.

Dunno why warfarm would bother. Laziness I guess?

So it looks like theres a bug that makes the end-of-mission results screen display an incorrect amount of mods. Basically it seems to show double the amount of mods you collected minus one at the end of the mission, but once you get back to the liset, or you view the mission progress screen while still in the mission, it shows the correct amount. I've even sort of tested this by manually counting how many cores I collect in a mission and comparing it to the results screen.

So, yeah, don't freak out if it looks like the game is suddenly zapping half of your loot, since you didn't actually pick up that much stuff to begin with.

Got back into this after a good year and a bit of being away. I nearly shat myself when it asked me what Warframe I wanted to use and threw me into the tutorial mission. I thought I'd lost all the stuff I'd built up in the 72 hours I'd played 14 months ago, but as soon as the mission was finished I found myself in a spaceship in my Nekros? And I had to kill Vor after finding a bunch of shit for my ship?

    What sorcery is this?

Meh. Doesn't matter. Goddamn it feels good to be a space ninja.

Yeah, it makes everyone play through the tutorial mission, even returning vets. Probably to reorient people who might not have played for a long time and haven't been around for the later changes to UI and such.

So the Akjagara are pretty nifty. Look cool, sound nice, have a cool unique reload animation, and are pretty good at chopping dudes up. Goddamn that recoil though.

That's why the Tenno invented their Steady Hand wrist reinforcement mods :P

Afaik that got disproven a few days ago. What does scale with FPS is durability lost on hits. Which means you can go an area without even engaging every enemy and still break your weapon at 60 FPS.

Yeah dark souls is weird. I-frames seem scaled, but I think parry frames are still hampered by increasing frame rates.

Riposte damage was confirmed to increase by 50% when at 60 fps. Talk about balance concerns in a pvp game...

Developers, please stop tying things to fps.

Why? That's dumb and doesn't fix the problem. What would you say if resolution caused problems? "Just play at 720p" ?

Seeing as the problem is the maths associated with said frame rates and the animations, it's the simplest solution to the problem. Uncoupling the maths from the animations isn't really viable with peacemaker or riposte. While you could add in a secondary timestep or something, you've just added complexity too... /shrug

And depending on what specific problem a particular resolution caused for a player and the other information that available, yes, there could be a situation where I would say "Just play at 720p."

The problem with locking frame rate (or playing at 720p) is that it only hides the problem, rather than fixing it. Sure, it'll get rid of the issue, but it'll be unnecessarily holding the game back because they didn't actually address what was wrong. Unless the problem is literally unfixable, whether because the game would completely fall apart if that happened, or they somehow do not have the means to do it, or whatever else, that's just not acceptable.

If DE were to start forcing the game to run at 30 FPS just to fix issues like Mesa's Peacemaker DPS being tied to FPS, it'd be incredibly stupid. Perhaps even lazy. I'm pretty sure they fixed the issue of burst weapons DPS being tied to frame rate, so I don't see why they couldn't do the same for Peacemaker.

Good to hear, I am in the process of making them right now. Or well, leveling Latos to 30 and making Boltos to rank to 30 and Akbolto to rank to 30, because if I am going through the process of making all these things I might as well get mastery rank out of them.
