The issue with the AI and Lifeline is that there are now sieges: scripted base assaults by waves of Zs and specials. These escalate dramatically (like, here's 10 zombies, 2 ferals and a juggernaut to start off a wave and there's a few constant streams of zombies at the same time). They are very clearly balanced around having soldier npcs with firearms assisting the defense...but the AI doesn't place or move the npcs correctly. Plus, in Lifeline there are civilian npcs, but unlike the vanilla game the civilians are really, really terrible. They're incredibly fragile and have had their stats nerfed to hell and back. Anyone that isn't a soldier is essentially glass. Throw in the spawning bugs (oh hey, a horde spawned literally seven steps away from me as I turned my back) and a large number of buildings which can't be turned into outposts...

They need to fix their shit, is what I'm saying.

That's the main thing that turns me off of this series in the end. I love all the concepts and most of the execution but this part of the execution just makes me feel like I'm swimming in an RNG fishbowl of a cell with things spawning anywhere around me no matter what I do, so why bother with any defense. They really need fixed enemy generators in this game so the zombies have less ninja magic.

It was fine in vanilla. Things would spawn in your vicinity, but not ON you. So you'd see new baddies across the street, or in a building down the way or something. In Lifeline the spawning happens rapidly and within very close proximity of you. It's unnatural, and very clearly unintended.

I honestly wish you could just turn hunt missions off. It's stupid for survivors to run off alone to tackle big zombies or hordes, and it just pointlessly saps a resource from you (character availability).

They should patched it out ages ago and replaced it with the ability to set a range and danger setting for your survivors where they will just automatically keep zombie populations down in certain areas or around the base, without you having to constantly drive around and tell them "no, you are not wasting my fucking time on this zombie issue two miles away from base, where I need you as a meatshield".

That would be awesome and they also need some feedback between just how much does the population/number of infected houses actually matter so we don't feel like all random zombie killing isn't pointless.

I've kept things fully controlled with infected houses on every street and also died to an endless chain swarm out of nowhere just outside of my ultra safe zone while hunting a garden bucket.

I'm super glad to hear that this isn't the norm - I recently picked this up during the sale and am quite intrigued by it, but there's one incident that sticks out in my mind:

I was given a mission that one of my survivors had got themselves caught up with a bunch of zombies and needed an 'escort' back to the Church. No biggie, I'm nearby and I need all the people I can get so I can move down to that rather nice looking Shipping Warehouse down on the SW side. I drive over to the mission indicator which is out in the middle of a field and my survivor is getting beat on by a large group of zeds. I jump out of my car and proceed to lay the smack down on them.

What follows is 15-20 minutes of combat that breaks two of my weapons. Every single time I turn around to get the last one or two zeds that are inside the mission circle, another group spawns behind me. I saw two groups spawn in front of me even, just dropping out of the sky like some malicious GM is watching us fight. I genuinely thought I wasn't going to be able to finish the mission because more and more and more just kept coming. I finally managed to get the survivor to follow me a little ways out of the circle so that the fresh groups would stop spawning in it - causing the circle to finally be empty and the mission to complete.

Really enjoying the game but holy fuck.

I really just bought the new dlc so I could mod vanilla and breakdown and play army man dress up with the newer, better army models. I made a thread of my findings on their forums.

I regret nothing. Haven't touched lifeline yet. I will sometime.

Pretty impressed with Lifeline so far. Very intense and I've lost quite a few soldiers and civilians already. It's a nice step up from the complacency that develops in the vanilla game once you start building your group up. I've had next to no time to properly scavenge for supplies, my base is living from day to day.

If theres a sequel, this is what I would want it to be modeled after, not so much the military angle or huge supply of ammo but more the sense of odds continually being stacked against you. Especially bring back the siege elements which were some of the most fun I've had with the game yet.

Really starting to hate the map though. Very narrow and just a lot of driving circles on the highway back and forth.

hey yo. The Year of the surviovor (YOSE) edition came out.

there is an extreme amount of negativity torwards this as PC duders feel they are being ripped off with it being 20 bucks. Xbox1 users are stoked to get a freshend up version of the game for thier console.

beyond that online squabbling- Its good. Same great game.... new stuff added. new visuals (the menus/UI were redrawn for 1080 native and it shows- the new smoke/particle effects are very atmospheric and noticeable) New breakdown chars. New weapons. new (even in breakdown) quests. New animations are nice. No new bases. No new maps.

be fore warned- there is not that much new. I did not mind the 20$ upgrade as I have my finances in order, and like this company. Each person will have to gauge it for themselves.

If you are a new player its a slam dunk, get it. Damn great game and its a slightly different take than most 'zombie genre' games. If you have the old game and all 3 dlcs- You are looking at new weapons, new missions, new folks, tweaked combat, tweaked animations, and Slightly enhanced visuals. You get 10$ off. You have to make that call.

Fairly happy with it- the difficulty in breakdown seems to have been jacked up a bit as specials are everywhere @ level 1. I'm okay with that.

Where/why do PC players feel they are being ripped off with the price? Haven't those complaints.

Yeah, I bought it because I liked the xbox 360 version and the company.

I still don't like Breakdown mode. I'll probably start of by beating that DLC in its entirety. How do the hero character unlocks work in it?

Horde spawning was specifically cleaned up.

Depends on hero. The cop unlocks for 50 pistol kills on any given breakdown level. On it goes from there. bake 12 treats and unlock the joker. kill 100 zombos with a car door and unlock the dealer (the most key of duders)

What makes breakdown fun is each iteration gets more nuts. And you can ONLY bring 7 folks. So theres 50 heros..... choices will be made. And say you get stun locked by a feral and one of your baddest duders dies? You are in a real bind.

I like bgreakdown. It gets way hard fast and can suck based on being too unforgiving but it is what is.

Been dicking around with Breakdown again as of late, probably since we just had a season of The Walking Dead and I still need a zombie fix.

Damn shame earlier: had a Hero ask to join, and she happened to be near my protective layer of outposts so I just walked by to escort her home. Boom: the one little sliver not covered by outposts has a Fattie spawn in it. Hero promptly charges face first at him and gets torn in half in record time, despite how quickly I managed to dispatch the big bastard with the hand cannon that (the amazingly named) Faith Archer packs.

And yes, I have a survivor actually specialized in Revolvers. They're noisy as all hell, and the perks are "eh", but the raw damage and the stopping power are pretty fun. Even if its not a kill, a powerful revolver will put the target on its backside. And with that .45 M 1917 of Ms. Archer's, you can totally ruin a Feral's day quick n' easy... which is usually worth pissing off a bunch of other zombies.

With that said, my favorite gun user is an former soldier rocking Assault Weapon skills and, on most days, a classy M3. 30 round clips, low recoil, and it can be silenced. Accuracy issues can be resolved by keeping it in the hands of someone with Assault Weapon abilities (not to mention the fact that, with a SMG, you're probably blasting zombies coming towards you anyways), and while it's on the noisier side of things you can just silence it if that's a concern.

I do think that's one of the problems with the game: guns and specializing in them. Not only are there dozens and dozens of firearms, but it can often be hard to justify giving someone a firearm specialization over the melee one you can get much sooner. I think only my folks that get shooting XP faster have had the luck of become firearm specialists of any kind. A shame, because I'd love to toy around with more assault weapons or finally learn what it is a bonafide shotgun specialist brings to the table (other than dozens of zombies attracted by his gunfire).

yup. On a restart you can pick your starter guy and they have chances to spawn in during course of game on appropriate levels. IE a level 5 hero wont spawn till after then.

Undead Labs is attempting to make a massive multiplayer State of Decay. Heck, if memory serves the original SoD was meant as a sort of "test run" for their more ambitious project.

But there isn't much information out about it, and I haven't heard any updates in a good while, so it's entirely possible it'll never see the light of day. But if it does, and it's basically just State of Decay but with craptons of players scattered across an expansive, zombie infested world? That would be awesome.

Yeah, that's pretty much what they said they were going for with it. I imagine with their partnership or whatever they still have going on with Microsoft it'll be a thing soon too.

    Not super diff.

Lots of really well done particle and smoke(haze) effects. Cars are all better sharper textures but there's still bad textures in spots.

A solid few hours is you go slow? Not sure how fast you can speed run it.

At a basic level- You have to establish a base. Find an RV to move to the next map. And then fix the RV. You do need more time/mats each time.
You do have missions and such to unlock heros based on what you do.

Your research carries over BTW. so on low levels take your time and research all the things. Then in the future you don't have to do that....

Every iteration makes the game harder. Less resources. Much less cars. More freaks. More hordes.

You will not only need fighters- you need 'ninja' trait chars to scav fast and efficiently and not drawn all the zombos as at some point you cant just muscle your way through. You will need a 'marathon' runner that can sprint almost forever to help in the initial setup of a new map.

its endless. For whatever reason i like it.

From what Pink told me yesterday, I got the impression that a lot of the negative reviews are the product of review bombing over two things:

    1) If you bought the game on the Xbox 360, you get a 33% discount for buying the Xbox One version.

    2) This version still has no multiplayer, which is a thing that they've always said wasn't going to happen.

I can't speak to the value of 30 bucks to you and all, but if you have the older version on the PC and all the DLC, I really don't see why you would want to buy the YOSE edition. It's just a graphical upgrade with a few more weapons and stuff, and the PC version ran at a higher res, etc already right? I got it for the same reason mojo did; I liked the original version, and wanted to support the company.

eta: and tanking the reviews for this version to discourage players that haven't played the original is a lame thing for people to do, imo.

It's the same game with a facelift. If you are done with the game and don't plan/want to play it more, it's not worth throwing another $20 at it - you're not getting a new or extended/expanded game. You're getting updated graphics, some nicer animations, and a few new toys/cars/people/etc.

In my case, even with well over 100 hours in it, it was easily worth it to me to give the devs another $20 to support what is one of my favorite games ever. Essentially I chose to vote with my wallet for "More of this sort of thing now plz, kthxbai!" Between the $30 for the base game and $20 for YOSE and $10-ish (or so?) bucks I paid for the 2 DLCs, it's in the ballpark of the price of a new AAA game from EA et al. but, in my opinion, offers a ton more value and is just damn good.

In fact, I've bought 6 copies of SoD: YOSE so far and will probably buy plenty more before I'm done. I want these devs to succeed and make more glorious good things.

This also was never promised to have MP. never ever. The original game was said to be a test bed for making an mmo out of it. that was way back.... and there been no status on mmos.

Imagine it tho- commerce is in the game via trade packs. Pvp over ruck sacks? Players banding together to like in the bases together? scarecity of resources in a giant open world? It could be epic.

This also was never promised to have MP. never ever. The original game was said to be a test bed for making an mmo out of it. that was way back.... and there been no status on mmos.

Actually , what they said was they would look into adding it via some sort of DLC then about a month later said, nope it won't work. People took that as a "yes absolutely we'll add it" then pretended they were lied to.
As many of you know, we had originally planned to offer co-op multiplayer in State of Decay. However, we had to make the decision to cut it during development … the reasons were mostly technical, as we were up to our eyeballs trying to retrofit our game engine to support an open-world sandbox game rather than the FPS style games it had been designed for … Unfortunately, after reevaluating it over the past few weeks, we believe our original estimate of six months was optimistic; the actual time is probably closer to nine months.

The thing is that announcement came out before the game was even released so no one was mislead in any way.

I own the original, and I loved it. I won't be buying this one, but I don't think I'm being an entitled asshole about it. :) It's just not worth the price to me. I'm not going to negatively review it, because if you've never played State of Decay, this package is ABSOLUTELY worth the money and you need to buy it now.

If I want MP zombies, I'll play Project Zomboid. I'm not going to whine about a feature that they never promised not showing up.

But as for supporting the developer, I don't feel the need to support them any more than I have. They lost me when they started talking about that Moonrise thing instead of State Of Decay 2.
