As long as Central Park's been brought up, there's some interesting tidbits about Prospect Park (in Brooklyn, one borough away) I got a few times growing up I wanna share. Prospect Park was designed by the same people who made Central Park, and though smaller, allowed the designers to avoid some of the obstacles that came up during the creation of Central Park - due to the fact that Central is enormous and smack dab in the middle of upper Manhattan, there needed to be space made for several large city streets and two full reservoirs. The extra freedom led to things like Prospect Lake, which is larger than any lakes in Central Park and designed for boating and skating, and my personal favorite feature, the Long Meadow-
Despite appearances, the meadow is not a long unbroken stretch of grass- there are a number of paved footpaths criss-crossing it, but as you can't see in the above picture, they're all placed strategically a bit below ground level so that the view when looking across the meadow is prettier.
Was at a talk by Luigi Snozzi on tuesday. Started out fine, but at the latest when he was explaining his concept for Netherland's Deltametropole I could have slapped him. Such bullshit. And everyone there was like, but it is so interesting and different and so contrary, I could jut thinkt that that is no excuse for doing something stupid, gah.
See this street in Budapest? Notice the street tree breaks down the distances between the first indentation which would the height of a person and the top most indentation which is the top height of the building. This all about human scale, and by placing a street tree in there is less distance, and a reduced feeling of being far away and in empty place between humans and buildings. It reduces feeling lost and gives you something you can bridge the gap between person and buildings. Next time you see a street tree imagine how different the street would feel without it.

When I was working summers for a moving company I packed up a woodshop that was almost that baller, though with less windows. Similar amount of space/work areas, sawdust vacuum hookups all over, etc
they were moving out, away from it, I was stunned.
see my house-porn tends to be two bedroom paris apartments with high ceilings, or moderately sized farmhouses with amazing kitchens.
Big-ass overgrown sprawling mansions set off all my anti-capitalist rock-throwing tendencies.
When I was growing up, my sister and I would sometimes drive around to the newer wealthy suburbs which were slowly being developed. It's amazing how much bad taste money can buy.
For me my dream house would be an old terrace house with a little front and back garden on a little street that feels cottagey but are close to town centers.
I've gotta go all or nothing. Either way out in the country with a decent sized block of land, or an apartment or terrace right in the middle of a big city. Suburbs give me nightmares.

I see giant houses and just think of how empty they'd feel. I barely use all the rooms in my one-bedroom apartment, what am I going to do with 10 bedrooms?

Yeah, I'd never want to live in that. I'd move downtown if I could. In fact, I've gone from a 3 bedroom apt, to a 2 bedroom, to a 1 bedroom with walk in closet, and we haven't missed the extra space at all. It was more a pain than anything.
Open floorplan is definitely a must for me. I want to buy something where I can knock down the walls, since I probably won't be able to afford something with that setup right off the bat.

This is called the "Versailles of Vaughan" by the realtor trying to sell this $17m monstrosity. New Jersey is to New York as Vaughn is to Toronto.
I think the race car room is my favorite, it really screams "VROOM VROOM I'M A BIG BOY".

If you don't have 8 people crammed into a living/dining room and have to run extension cords into the kitchen after an hour because you're overloading the living room's circuit, I'm not sure it really counts as a LAN party.
@Liiya do you subscribe to Houzz? it's more interiors than landscaping, and suffers a little bit from Anthropologie syndrome*, but it's interior decoration/architecture porn of the most soothing kind
*So rustic! so kitch! Yes, let's turn old rulers into coat racks!

well ... I mean, I guess if you can afford to buy it, you can also afford to gut it and remodel it. Or turn it into an amazing boutique hotel.

No, but I'm looking at their site and I'm getting this itching feeling to buy stuff. I suddenly have a primal urge to do a bright coloured feature wall!

This was my first house and I was scared as FUCK that I was going to have to pay a trillion dollars to fix it. Called my dad (not quite in tears yet) and told him what happened. "see the metal box in the kitchen?" "sniff, yes" "open it up and there are a bunch of switches" "ok" "flip the one that's off back on" "ok .... oh god, thanks Dad!"

The Deltametropole is the urban conglomeration in the west of the Netherlands. Some years ago several architects were invited to develope a concept for the future of this area.
Snozzi's comcept was a giant circular railway track with nothing inside and on the outside the nine cities. Every 30 minutes a 200mph train was suppposed to connect these. Every train station should get two giant towers - adding (supposedly joking as that makes it so much better) that the muslim workers of the Netherlands could live in these; And because he realizes that almost looked like watch he just added another three towns. So basically some megalomaniac futurism vision.
This is the concept sketch and for size a map with the circular track on it:
Like quite a few architects I think his concepts totally break down when taken from the building scaling to the urban planning scale (see Le Corbusier)

I need a few things for something to be my dream house.
I need some kind of garden, even if it's just grass and one tree and a place for a raised veggie/herb bed
I need to be able to either walk to a store in under ten minutes, a store where I can buy something I forgot I needed to make dinner at 8pm and the owner will be like "Hashpipe! What do you need?", or walk to a downtown type area in under a half hour
No stratas. Fuck that. I don't need some group of squares telling me how I can and can't alter the house I fucking own
I need a decent sized kitchen with a decent sized pantry. My current kitchen is a shoebox and it drives me insane.
I need transport options. I want to hang a bicycle in the garage next to our one car and be able to walk a few blocks to a train

But... why? Why make it like a clock? What is the point - you're not supposed to do stuff "just cause it looks nice and its an easy concept" it supposed to have a reason. And nothing inside, why?
Design for design's sake is a recipe for disaster!

I mean
they could also use that giant circular track to make a sweet particle accelerator
but a train that connects the outskirts of a bunch of towns together seems like a bad idea for anyone that wants to actually go places

Small kitchens are the worst. I will give up living/dining room space in a heartbeat if it gets me a kitchen with enough room to actually do and store stuff in it. Friggin apartments...

And there is the drone flyover.
It's more properly thought of as a compound. It has its own servants quarters below the house, which is basically another whole house.
But it loses its thread

Huge kitchen
Open Living/Dining Room

Large bathtub since at 6'-2, I've never been able to soak in one.
Also a brick patio and garden with a wood grill/pizza oven
