Oh and I think the best part of this weeks comics was in Civil War: Choosing Sides. Specifically the Ant-man story.

Kid: "I need a cell phone to call home."
Spidey: "Just a second, I think Stark built one into my armpit."

Anyone else read the Superman/Batman Annual? It was brilliant.
The whole Deathstoke=Deadpool thing is brought up, with an "appearance" by the Merc with a Mouth himself.

Seriously? How the fuck does that work? Spoil the shit out of me svp.

The whole thing was an imaginary story, much like 99% of SvB. Too bad Supergirl's intro was canon. The story is a "redo" of the first Superman/Batman meetings, earlier editions of which have always had Supes trying to haul Bats away for vigilantism. Pot, meet kettle.

Superman and Batman team up to fight [spoiler:679f0b7544]the first out-of-continuity team-up of the Crime Syndicate (Ultraman, Owlman and Superwoman), who have been hired to assassinate the CSA Earth's Bruce Wayne.

The CSA is faking the assassination since all of them know that Owlman is the CSA Bruce Wayne (actually he's Thomas Wayne Jr., as established in his first appearance, but whatever), but Superwoman doesn't know Ultraman knows and vice-versa. Putting on a good show.

On Regular Earth, Deathstroke the Terminator has been hired to assassinate Regular Earth's Bruce Wayne.

On CSA Earth, Deadpool (never named as such) is covertly hired (by the CSA Thomas Wayne Sr.) to be Bruce Wayne's bodyguard.

Bruce and Clark end up on a cruise ship together and the cruise ship is sent through a cross-dimensional portal.

    [/spoiler:679f0b7544]

    Hijinks ensue.

Yeah, everything about that Ant-Man story was pretty damn good. The Guiding Light story at the end made me vomit in my own mouth...

[spoiler:3e46a0c783]The Crime Syndicate showed up (just Owlman, Superwoman, and Ultraman) to kill Bruce Wayne. Deathstroke was hired to kill Bruce Wayne. When he tried to, his "CS" earth counterpart showed up, which was pretty much Deadpool in Deathstroke's costume but with the colors reversed.

While reading it, you think it's in continuity, so it's fucking trash. But then at the end, you see that it's Mr. Mxyzptlk making fun of how comics can't be funny anymore, saying that "The Civil Crisis of Identical Wars" was a huge seller." He's talking to a bizarro person (probably a parody of an industry person, but I don't know who) with a sign that says "Producer #1" who shouts "BEST STORY EVER!!!" at the end.[/spoiler:3e46a0c783]

The two page spread near the end with all the text boxes has a very Douglas Adams-esque feel to the writing.

Secret Six- Every time I buy this I look at the cover and get all excited by Kerschl's art, then I open it up and get sad. The story's so-so really, with Deadshot's whoring around seeming kind of silly after just reestablishing and then breaking off contact with his new family just a few issues ago, and I'm just sort of waiting for this story to end. It's not bad, but it lacks the charm and direction of Villains United, and the incredibly mediocre art doesn't help. I can't help but wonder why this wasn't launched with a name artist on it. C+

Nextwave- Nextwave's always awesome. I'm not familiar with the parody characters this issue used, since I'm not really a huge Marvel fan or anything, but it still managed to be funny, and the last page's reveal was pretty great. A

Checkmate #6 (back issue)- Bad Karma's always going on and on about this, so I thought I'd give it a shot, and picked up the first part of the Suicide Squad story. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. The Sasha/Checkmate portions of the book didn't really grab me, but anything with Icicle and Mirror Master was great. I am kind of confused as to why Javelin's alive, since Deadshot blew him up several months ago, but hey, New Earth. Good art too, though some of the faces looked weird at times. B+ for Suicide Squad bits C+ for Checkmate portions

JSA: Classified #17 (back issue)- I passed on this when it first came out, but as I was standing in the shop I remebered how the writer promoted this little two-parter, saying that he always saw Bane as being just on the side of villains, and Hourman as being just on the side of the heroes, and I was curious to see how that would play out. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Bane was portrayed as sympathetic and almost heroic at times, which was refreshing after his one-dimensional "I am Bane. I break people," bit in the Infinite Crisis hardcover. Rex Tyler and his wife's banter and discussion of Viagra was great, and had me grinning while reading it, and Hourman himself came across as pretty neat. I'm a sucker for Scott McDaniel's art too, so I really enjoyed his work in this. It can get a little sloppy sometimes, but I thought this was some of his better work. I'll definitely buy the second part when I hit the shop next week. A

    Hay guys...

I know we do this dance every month, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it. This month's Black Panther was good. If anything, it could've used some non-flashback action, but still, pretty good.

Cue criticism of Hudlin's writing and disbelief that I like the book. :P

Yeah, we stick together. Black power and all that jazz. Black Panther isn't cancelled yet because of black man lies. :P

Seriously, guys, read BP #21. It's fun, and I guarantee there's no misogyny. :^:

You sure you didn't give that poll to DC instead?
