The hella rad Life Is Strange thread

Life is Strange is an episodic adventure game where you control Max Caulfield, a student at Blackwell academy who realizes she can reverse time. Like games such as The Walking Dead and Wolf Among us this game is very much built on player choice. However due to Max's powers she can undo her choices to make things work out for the best, or so she thinks.

Anyway I figured I'd make this thread because I've been enjoying the hell out of this game and episode three should come out sometime this month. So yeah, talk about the choices you made, talk about Victoria being a Mean Girl's character and talk about Chloe being hella cool.

did you pick up when she called you earlier in the day? I declined it and I think that pretty much screwed me way before I got to the point where I could talk her down

You take her call, erase the url at the bathroom, talk to her and tell her to go to the police and remember her favorite Bible verse.

It's insanely hard and I kind of lucked into it.

I told her not to go to the police, but I reminded her that her father still loved her.

But, yeah, that was one of the most tense parts of a video game I've ever played and it was in a episodic game no less. Bravo Dontnod.

I would say the worst thing is probably the lip synching, which seems to have gotten better in Episode 2.

    When in doubt, rewind time.

Although I'm guessing you already found your way out, I still think it's helpful generic advice.

I find myself wanting to play this because the end of episode 2 is kind of what I want from all episodic games, but at the same time I've been watching the best friends playthrough of it and that LP has been very good so I'd basically want to skip the first two episodes

    I am conflicted

I was hella thinking about foreshadowing in the game.

    Episode 3 spoilers:
Chloe's foreshadowing is obvious in retrospect. Wanting to take the handicapped fund, parking in handicapped spaces, wanting to take the rolling chair, of course she ends up handicapped.

I think that there's some major foreshadowing going on between Max and David. Around Chloe's house, there's a lot of evidence of David being a hunter. Like, the picture of David having just hunted down and killed a deer. And the deer head in the garage. Also, David's guns were shown in the first act. Meanwhile, Max's spirit animal (in a figurative or literal sense) is a deer.

I have a bad feeling about that.

    Because (episode III spoilers):
    There are two timelines now.

    One thread per timeline.

This also seems like a game I would want to play when I get my money situation sorted out (long story) and when I don't feel like two tons of no fun in a one pound bag due to the medication I have to take right now (nothing is fun to do, NOTHING)

Uh, this would not in my opinion be a good game to play while depressed, not in any way, shape or form.

    Wow.

Replaying episode two, I decided not to answer Kate's call.
In the junkyard, I read the piece of paper that said "I want to die."

Max says "Jesus, who wrote this?"

I immediately recieved a text from Kate.

I'm not sure if it's deliberately scripted like that, but wow.

It's odd, the writing is both the thing I find myself recommending the game for but also doing the "Well you see, sometimes it's the worst."

    Oh also Episode 3 spoilers.
I’m going to wait on a lot of what I’m thinking to see how they treat Chloe in a wheelchair because that could go super fucking bad.

Anyway I just gave a heads up to a friend who is in a wheelchair due to an auto accident (she was like 3 at the time) that this episode may be triggering for her.

This got me thinking about time travel in a multiplayer FPS.

The things I can think of:
    • Rewind to put yourself back where you were a few seconds earlier, with all of the health, ammo, etc that you had at the time.
    • To be able to fire time-frozen bullets. You could step into a hallway, unload a clip, and the bullets would hang there in the air. You'd scurry back into cover, and then someone would come up the hall, and you'd unfreeze the bullets, and the bullets would move forward in time and hit the person.
    • To be able to step into the past for a couple of seconds and move around that way. The game would track where people were and what they were doing, so a jump a minute into the past could put the player into the middle of a firefight that occurred at that location a few minutes before. They player would be unable to kill people in the past (because reasons), but they could get hit while running around in the past.
    • The ability to drop time traps. Players would run into them, and be momentarily slowed down. But after emerging, there would be a second self still stuck in the trap for a short period of time. The player could either move on and continue to fight, or they could guard their time-trapped self. If their other self gets killed, they die too.
    • As time travel weakens the space time continuum, you'd start seeing "ghosts" on the battlefield and energy distortions that could damage or confuse players, weird effects everywhere.

Life is Strange FPS, lets do this.
