Quick question: which one of you homps owns the guild "Kansas City Hotsteppers"?

I know I saw you running around a while ago!

While they're announcing WvW changes, I really hope there's plans to make the achievements a little less... completely insane.

Edit: It'd also be nice if there was some that were more interesting than "Do x thing y times".

More like the kind of achievements you get in Fractals possibly.

I doubt it. They already showed off the Revenant and I doubt showing the Revenant elite specialization will happen since they said they aren't showing an elite specialization this week. My guess is it is going to be either Guild Halls or group content related.

Welp, it's Friday. Did I miss whatever they showed this week, or were those WvW changes really it?

Those all sound good- I r confused tho-

Does that mean towers will just be dripping with supply now? Because im not sure I want siege wars 2k16.... and if you think turtle defense is bad now..... upgrades cost no sup? they will Burrough in like ticks and be un-supply starve-able. Will there be an abundance of supply?

removing applied is smart. It was manditory as all the smarts will get it and counter "fairplay?" . By that I mean- a vet has a massive advantage over a newb based solely on knowledge.... you dont need a 5% buff on top of that. And thats what it was. long time guys had that advantage. thats fine, remove the buffs.

No. Actually they've decreased the amount of supply overall. I think it is going to make protecting your supply lines a bit more important because the amount delivered is smaller overall and the upgrades are tied to how much of the supply gets in and no longer tied to gold invested.

I think they said they were reducing the amount of supply per 'yak, and while it looks like keeps/towers/etc upgrade on their own (the one thing I'm kinda leery on about the changes) getting 'yaks to them will still be a must if you want supply or for them to upgrade in a sane amount of time.

EDIT: Yeah, the second bullet point mentions that both the supply yaks carry and the amount of supply a place can hold will be smaller.

    sounds pretty good then.

Edit - the hard cores see it as killing out all havoc from wvw and the game only being giant blobs now. You don't have to have havoc or small parties bring yaks to towers now, or take camps. the tower auto complete- you just need to hold them. Camps have no real meaning other than a sup grab now.

i dunno, not sure i agree but theirs the scuttlebutt.

they did bring up that some folks planned ascended itemization around guard stacks. And that is going to be costly and time consuming to re gear....

edit - edit - i see it as almost better for havoc as that's our brand of fun, and if they cant siege turtle as easily we are going to make bank. i mean if they all pile in one blob and we do our normal hit and runs away from OUR main blob we should benefit from these changes.

Yeah, the fact that towers and keeps will auto-upgrade without 'yaks (even if it is a hell of a lot slower) is the one thing I'm leery on, since it does mean a group could, in theory, take a point and hold it until it fully upgrades without ever sending anyone out to capture the location's supply camp(s) and escort yaks.

On the other hand, I think that scenario is not as likely as people think, at least on an active map. With less supply in towers and keeps, you're not going to be able to keep and maintain a large amount of siege to defend as easily, especially if you are going to completely ignore supply camps from now on, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that upgrading walls/gates will in essence take *longer* than it does now, to offset the fact you now effectively have to "buy" all the upgrades of a tier before moving to the next one.

Edit: I guess I am wrong.
Each shipment from a dolyak caravan will reduce the remaining time by a set amount.

That is dumb then. If you kill off all yaks going into a capturable point it should never upgrade. But this change only delays the upgrade time. That is DUMB.

Depends on what kind of reduction. Is the new process a 12 hour cycle with dolyaks reducing it by 2 for each turn in? Or is it like 30 minutes and the dolyaks reduce it by a minute.

Both punish enemy servers for not looking at the objective once in a while, but at least with the former the dolyak is still important for servers under pressure.

Well, the Ready Up they did (shortest podcast they've put out in a while) current numbers are 40/80(120 total)/120(240 total) minutes baseline for Towers/Keeps/SMC, or 4 hours without dolyaks to upgrade, and a constant 'yak supply is suppose to cut that by about half. I don't know how much time that really is for Wuving, especially during primetime, but it doesn't sound like a huge change to what it normally takes to upgrade a point you're serious in keeping.

Also, one pretty big change that they didn't mention in the blog is that Keep Waypoints will now work like they do in Edge of the Mists. They will automatically spawn there when you capture the point they're at, but they only work for the side that naturally owns that keep (so Blue can't use the WP in Red's Keep in EB, Green won't gain wp access for capping Blue Garrison in Blue BL, etc) The Waypoints for Hills and Bay in the Alpine BLs are also going to be moved to the southernmost towers in light of this change, and SMC's Waypoint will still work like it does now, unlocking for the owner with the final upgrade tier.

    Some other values/changes on Wuv:

Supply Camps: takes 20 minutes to hit the first tier, 40 extra to hit the second, 200 supply is the most it can hold (earned after the first tier) and the upgrade that increased the amount of supply delivered has been removed.

Towers: Starts at 100 supply hold, goes to 300 supply at T1, caps at 500 supply at T3 (200 less for max cap than before) upgrades are basically the same (though no extra workers, of course

Keeps: Starts at 500 supply hold, 800 at T1, 1100 at T3 (current cap is 1700) Like I mentioned before, Waypoints are no longer an upgrade, instead, they are unlocked automatically for the team that has it as their "natural" keep. (or now tower, in the case of non-home BLs)

SMC: Starts at 1000, Caps at 1800, can't tell you what the intermediate value is, because they messed up the Powerpoint at the time and labeled it Keep's 800

Yeah, they said one of the main reasons behind making WPs work like they do now is so that one side can't snowball total map control (which right now happens pretty much all the time in BLs) because they can use all the keep waypoints to rapidly respond to threats throughout the entire map. Something that would make havoc squads a bit more fun; can sneak attack someplace like Hills without having to worry about 50+ people popping out of it the second the waypoint goes off-contested for 2 seconds.

I'd argue that it's mostly announcements that they can't get right. I can't think of anything they are worse at than marketing and communicating their plans for the game.

I'd say by finding another group. Basing eligibility on AP is a pretty awful indicator of eligibility for dungeon runs. They're either interested in speed runs, which makes AP pointless and stupid, or are looking for someone to carry them, and it's just as easy for them to just ask for that without the manipulative bullshit.

    You're damn right I will!

Hey @Frozenzen, welcome back! There's been a metric butt-ton of changes since you last played.

    List of major releases:
    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Release

Season 1 Story (currently can't be replayed, so go ahead and read up if you want, it'll explain WTF happened to Lion's Arch):
    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_1

Season 2 Story (can be replayed, but you'll need to find someone to give you a ride, or pay for the episodes if you want the achievements and rewards from it):
    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_2

Easy way to search patch notes if you want to know what happened to a particular thing:
    http://reess.carina.uberspace.de/gw2-patchnote-search/

Here's a quick(ish) rundown of the really big stuff:

    Big Structural Changes:
Almost everything is account bound now. You have an account wallet with all your currencies available across all characters. You also have an account wardrobe for every skin you've unlocked for armor and weapons, and can apply the skins with transmutation charges (if you have any of the old-style stones or crystals, click them to convert them into charges). Minis are accessed through the wardrobe and are account-wide. Same with costumes and finishers. Town clothes do not exist, everything is either an armor skin, an outfit (costume), or a tonic. Dyes unlocks are account-wide. Commander tags are account-wide, come in several colors, and are more expensive.

Make sure you log in to each character and take them to The Mists (PvP Lobby) to unlock any skins they might have had for your account. Logging in to each character will also get you any dyes you had duplicates of between characters, and it will let you collect any birthday rewards you've earned as well.

The achievement system is awesome now. You get actual rewards for achievements, both for some invididual achievements and for hitting milestones. There's also a new type of achievement called a Collection.

Luck is a thing. Magic find isn't a stat on gear any more and if you had MF gear you can choose new stats for it. Magic Find is now an account passive bonus gotten from luck.

Dailies are totally different, and monthlies are gone. There are login rewards. Laurels are a reward from logging in and you should check out a laurel vendor.

Megaservers are a thing. It's all basically one giant server, and what server you're actually on only matters for WvW.

Guild missions are a thing. We still run them on Sundays, check the OP for details. You can earn commendations which get you various rewards.

Ascended gear is a thing. It's like exotic gear, only slightly better and vastly more expensive. It's not really necessary unless you're into fractals.

PvP Reward Tracks are a thing, and PvP is actually really well rewarded now. There's also new systems for PvP builds, so the first time you go PvP take a minute to investigate the new interface. There are custom arenas and spectator mode. Our guild has a custom arena, see the OP for details.

WXP is a thing in WvW that lets you get rewards and skills specific to WvW.

Traits are very different, but they are changing again before the expansion, so I wouldn't invest too much time into learning the current system, it sucks anyway. The upcoming system is vastly easier to deal with and simpler as well, plus many traits are being buffed. However, one big change is that you can retrait for free at any time when you're not in combat or the in the middle of a pvp match. Note: your traits have almost certainly been reset, make sure you set some. :)

World bosses give pretty good rewards now and are available on a regular schedule: http://timer.silversunshine.net/

    Content Additions:
Fractals: A set of 3 random mini-dungeons followed by a boss. There's a progressive difficulty element and a special stat you need to do higher level ones.

New dungeon wing: Twilight Arbor Aetherpath

New world bosses: Tequatl the Sunless, The Great Jungle Wurm and Karka Queen. Wurm in particular requires a large organized group.

New Zones: Dry Top and Silverwastes. Both are max level zones with a ton of stuff to do for each, including jumping puzzles, achievements, and bosses.

New PvP maps: Skyhammer and Spirit Watch

New WvW map: Edge of the Mists

There's also a thing called Activities, which are pretty lame most of the time but they come out with fun ones with achievements during some of the major season events. There's a lot of seasonal content.

There's probably stuff I missed, but that's all the really big things, I think. Welcome back! Don't forget to read the OP, there's a ton of great information there. By the way, did you get a guild re-invite? If not just post here with your account name and we'll get you. :)

No. Basically, during the Big Patch That Broke Everything about 2 months ago, there was a bug that automatically set people to maximum HoM level if they went to the vendor. It's not fixed yet because they're trying to fgure out a way to tell who actually got it legitimately, and roll it back.

From the time it's taken, I think they've realised they well and truly fucked up and can't roll back without rolling everything back. And it's been too long now to do that. It irritates me because I want to access the armour that I earned from my time in GW 1.

Actually, the bug IIRC set them at ~30 HoM points and gave them the God Walking Among Mere Mortals title for finishing the new character instance.

"Fortunately", HoM itself was bugged with the same patch (crashing the game whenever you tried to enter) so they don't have to figure out how to reset all the skins/minis/ranger pets, just the HoM points as well as HoM-related Achievement Points and titles at a scale that they never conceived of having to do before, and as Sharkey said, most of the dev time that they would have spent on creating the tools to do targeted mass rollbacks like that is currently being spent on HoT, so it's taking a while.

...and this all happened just as I was getting back into GW1 to work on my HoM too...

That would be great. Main's name is Cyrenna Foehunter. I'm past most of the "easy" stuff (still need to grind challenge missions for hero armors, which should be easy-ish, but until HoM is fixed in GW2 I'm in no hurry on that part) and into the slow grind of Hard Mode missions/vanquishes/faction/titles in general. There are a couple of missions I'm already dreading trying to solo in Hard Mode (Eternal Grove, I'm looking at you) and would love the help, but in truth, as long as I remember to bring Lockpicks, I'm up for pretty much whatever.

I made it to 20/50 recently and kind of burnt out on it again. I have 5 more points in fairly easy reach, but the 5 after that are looking to be pretty severe.

Molten variables hiss and roar. On my mind-forge, I hammer them into the greatsword Epistemology. Many are my foes this night.

I wrote a guide for getting HoM to around 30 back before GW2 was released. Probably still appropriate, if you're looking for tips:

...and of course, as always, Kill Hitler.

Nice pointers. Couple things I've noticed/planned for to add to that for others:

First, Wayfarer's Reverie, which starts up again exactly 3 months from today, can be completed for a Tormented Weapon, which is an extra point (or two if you don't have an Destroyer/Oppressor Weapon yet) that, if you typically solo, you would probably never get without either spending dozens of ectos or with a lot of pain and suffering attempting Domain of Anguish. If you already have a Tormented Weapon, you can still do it for a rare mini (Mini Rytlock in fact!) for Devotion or a grab bag of consumables to help with HM stuff.

Always pay attention to what the Weekly Bonus currently is and the items that Nick will want for the next couple of weeks. The Support and Extra Luck ones can save you a lot of time and (in Extra Luck's case) money as you work on those titles, the Zaishen bonuses will help a lot with grinding out the coins to buy Zaishen Keys, plus if you're dead set on doing elite missions like the Underworld or Urgoz's Warren with just you and a bunch of heroes (yes, it is possibly to solo Urgoz's Warren with just heroes, even though it is a 12-man mission and without at least one more player you can only bring a party of 8... That probably earned me Masochist of the Month when I did that this April :P Thank god for Edge of Extinction), it's probably best to wait until there is no entrance fee before making a serious effort to try and learn the encounters. As for Nick, Gifts of the Traveler always sells pretty well, as do the items he wants for them the week he's asking, though be warned the prices for the item he wants drop almost instantly to zip afterwards since it takes about three years before he asks for it again.

Also, while I wouldn't recommend going for any of the PvP title tracks, other than maybe Zaishen rank, which is gained from using Zaishen Keys (even though you don't have to max them to display in HoM, just getting to the right rank for most of them are pretty grindy, even compared to many of the PvE tracks) Heroes' Accent and Codex Arena now have Henchmen that you can pick up to fill any (or all, Balthazar help you) empty spots, if you are truly that desperate to play them.

I'm sitting at 15 HoM points at the moment, was hoping to be at 16 after last week's free UW/FoW bonus but didn't have enough time to properly nail down the solo strategies for some of the harder Underworld missions (though I was able to ace Fissure of Woe the first time pretty easily), so now I'm getting enough alts far enough through Factions to buy the 26 Lux skills I can get with the 78k Imperial Faction I still have left over from the last Competitive Mission bonus week to turn it into 312k Luxon rank (I'm not currently in a guild, nevermind a Lux alliance guild, so I can't donate faction for an Alliance to get the most bang for my faction that way), which should get my Luxon Rank high enough to be my 10th honor monument for HoM, even though it isn't a maxed title track. The fact that this means running characters through Nahpui Quarter, which is where the Celestial Essence you need for this week's Gift of the Traveler happens to drop, is turning out to be a nice bonus. After that, it's either grinding faction for Faction's factions to get the mats for Lux/Kurzik Armor, finally getting around to doing War in Kryta for Oppressor's Weapons, or finishing the collection for Black Moa Chick.

Hey. I was getting back into GW1 as well. Finally bought the expansion that lets me get access to the hall and linked up my old existing characters. That got me up to 10 points already. But I'm not sure what I need to do from there :) I would be interested in forming a party or something if our schedules sync up.

I'd be down, though someone would have to help me create non terrible builds. I was maining a Dervish before the Great Dervish Nerf of 2011, and now I'm total butterfingers at the game.
