Do I get to post pics of my tarantula, Ungoliant, in here?

    He's furry!

(Don't worry arachnophobes, I won't actually do that.)

Is it weird that I find spiders less terrifying than insects?

The spiders and bugs I find terrifying are almost entirely due to looks (the long spindly legs are typically what does it I think, since house centipedes are literally my worst nightmare), so I'd say that's not strange at all. Most phobias aren't entirely rational.

I wish I could post the video I took of Jack seeing snow for the first time.

He freaked out and just started romping through it. Hopping through it, basically, because the snow was too big for him to walk on. He was just SO EXCITED to see this wonderous new thing.

Of course, it was a bitch and a half to get all the snow OFF him afterwards. Snow sticks really well to hair, apparently.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I have a few pictures I can post eventually, but here's the list of animals that currently let my wife and myself live in the house with them.

Odin - A 25-pound, one-eyed former runt of the litter who's more of a dog than the tabby cat he appears to be. He likes to sit on the other cats and meow at the ceiling at 3 a.m. for no reason. He also really enjoys laying his fat ass across my face right when I finally fall asleep.

Dolly - A stray black cat we rescued, who will not move from my chest or lap until I have to actually leave the house.

Ellie - Another stray black cat we found at a resale shop as a kitten, she's incredibly sweet and good with baby animals and people, but will throw holy hell at the other cats if they come too close to her. Also she likes to flop over on my chest and dig her claws into my beard and fall asleep.

Mimi - Yet another stray cat, mostly white with a little black patch on her head, that I found back when I was doing route work on a freezing morning. She was about a month old, and no one claimed her. She was taken from her mom too early, and when she's sleepy she likes to curl up against one of us and try to nurse on our arms.

Oreo - One of my wife's cats, he's about 12 and very sweet, but very cranky.

Mickey - The other of my wife's cats...she's pushing 14 and is a rather sassy Siamese. She was abused before my wife got her, and it took her a full year to even let her touch her, but now she's a total sweetheart.

Gertie - Our bearded dragon. Spoiled as hell, likes to throw fits if you don't let him run around the house when you get home from work.

Larry - Our Tokay Gecko, who can only be described as a buzzsaw. There's no reasoning with her, there's no handling. There is only observation and throwing crickets in the tank to their inevitable, horrible death.

Linda and Zamboni - Our Leopard Gecko pair. Basically stoners in the form of lizards. They lay around all day, come out when the lights go off to eat some worms, hump a bit, then go back to sleep.

Stevie - Our Crested Gecko, who does a great impression of a leaf and really enjoys bananas.

Grimlock - Our Uromastyx, who likes to bask on his rock and spend the rest of the day stomping around his tank establishing his dominance. Also he likes to eat grapes.

Petey and Cosmo - Our corn snakes, both rescued. Petey is shy and doesn't like to come out from under his rock, while Cosmo will happily curl up on top of your head and stay there for hours.

Ty and Jay - Our two mice who were given to us by the people that gave us Cosmo. We don't feed live mice to our snakes, so they were added to the menagerie.

Karen and Steve - Our two Hissing Cockroaches who like to have random arguments in the middle of the night.

Needless to say, we have no reason to ever go to a zoo.

Nah, I don't think so. Everyone's afraid of something.

And while I believe that arachnophobia is the most common phobia (it's way up there at the very least), entomophobia is still fairly common.

Fake edit: The list I only took a cursory look at had arachnophobia is the #1 most common and entomophobia as #42.

He is bigger than a breadbox, if that helps.

He's kinda lanky and he weighs like ~20 pounds?

This is Ginger, we adopted/stole her from some neighbors that had abandoned her four years ago. She was a brat but could be really sweet. Toward the end of last year she began having seizures. We took her to the vet and had her on medication and she seemed to be improving, but in late December she stopped eating or drinking and we had to put her down. It was heartbreaking and we still miss her a bunch.

    hrpavpjrx6n0.jpg

This is Tonx, who recently celebrated his first birthday. We adopted him when Ginger was recovering thinking that since she was getting better she needed a playmate. He loves being scooped up and carried around like a baby but he's not terribly cuddly. We taught him to play fetch through! And when he gets all riled up he pants in the most hilarious way.

    m8hsyb7bujoj.jpg
This Carrot Cake, or Cake for short, we adopted her about three or four months ago and she's a gigantic sweetheart who will hop up on your lap and take a nap. She's not fond of being picked up but she'll curl up with anybody.

I swear sometimes he looks lapdog sized and sometimes he's halfway to a wolfhound. I think it depends on viewing angle.

It's kind of rough with Ginger, cause when she was having seizures the vet had us record video to try to help diagnose their severity, etc, and it's heart wrenching to watch them now but we don't want to delete them. It's rough.

We got a bunch of cute photos of her and got it turned into a canvas print and keep it next to her ashes. When she passed the vets office took a paw print and sent us a really sweet condolence card that makes me tear up just thinkin about it :( we miss our Ginger-baby.

I'm not currently living with any animals, but I'll post some pictures of the animals at my girlfriend's parent's place.

Here's Eevee, in her usual pose of wanting whatever you've got:

And here's Fluffy Princess and I enjoying some television. I swear, she loves watching TV, especially The Office:

I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of the three other cats living there, and of my parent's yellow lab.

She went peacefully and without any pain and we were holding her when she went and that's the best we could do for her. I always put up a front that I didn't like her and that she was Heathers cat and not mine but I loved her a bunch.
