like for instance, Mass Effect 1 is in the developer preview program, with 2 and 3 likely to be available before Andromeda is released. So it will be the only console where you can play the entire series.

    No we don't

We have welfare programs but they just give you money and let you buy your own food where you want and how you want and trust you won't spend it on liquor and cigarettes

Yeah I don't know of any other country that uses food stamps. The American welfare system just seems so needlessly complicated, like everything else.

Sonic Spinball (previously known as Spinball Whizzer), is a steel spinning roller coaster made by Maurer Söhne of Germany and sponsored by SEGA. The ride is located in the Adventure Land area of Alton Towers in Staffordshire, England. It is based on SEGA's number one franchise Sonic the Hedgehog. "Sonic Spinball" itself was an early pinball game released for Sega's Mega Drive, Game Gear and Master System systems, which is referenced in the ride's theming.

Originally opened in 2004, the ride was known as Spinball Whizzer and featured a loose pinball machine theme. The name was a pun on the song Pinball Wizard by The Who. It was decided in late 2009 that the ride would receive sponsorship. The roller coaster was therefore given a red and blue track repaint; new decoys, signage and audio, including songs from the games (with the station announcements done by Sonic's current voice actor Roger Craig Smith). The ride re-opened to the public on 13 February 2010 during the park's February half term event.

SEGA's sponsorship was set to end in 2013 as part of the three-year deal. At the end of 2013 the sponsorship was renewed, and will continue until 2016.

    A Sonic Spinball rollercoaster?

England, we need to have a serious talk.

They should be. Paying ransoms not only encourages future kidnappings, but it directly funds them. The blood of every future victim is on their hands.

Kidnapping should always, 100% of the time be a law enforcement / military issue.

Sure, which is why it should be illegal, and on a similar note, why we should have well trained and funded anti-kidnapping units so as to offer a better alternative.

i don't know the situation with whole foods but the way you become a SNAP authorized retailer is by applying for it.
i think the requirement to not buy alcohol and tobacco is fine in spirit although ineffective (people who want alcohol and tobacco are just going to do swaps to get them) and so should probably be removed

i am not sure you know what you are talking about re: SNAP being restricted to "places we want poor people to shop"

It's not something I would play frequently, but prior to playing ME3 I did a straight run through of ME1 and ME2 to prepare a canon character and having not played ME1 since it came out, there was enough nostalgia and good timey feelings to make it an enjoyable run.

However, I wouldn't replay it again any time soon.

ME1 is still my favorite for this reason alone, and it probably always will be. I've mentioned before, but the final sequences of that game leading up to the ending is the most intense and memorable of any game I have ever played, and never before has a game made me feel more like a Big Gorram Hero than Mass Effect 1.

    I don't want to play ME1 again.

I want to get through it because I do want to be able to make different choices and stuff and see how it affects the sequels.

That being said, I do not play shooters on console because I am bad enough with KBAM, no need to exacerbate the problem.

    Nope

It does reward kidnapping, directly. It does say to kidnappers "Yes, this is something you can make money doing if you do it again", and it does nothing to disincentivize kidnappers from repeating what they just did.

No, it does not make the family members who pay it at fault or responsible for the crimes the kidnappers continue to commit henceforth. That fault lies entirely on the kidnappers for making the choice to kidnap again. There is a huge gulf between the two things, and you are obfuscating the two. What you are doing is straight up victim-blaming.

It's in the same neighborhood of saying "If you don't report a crime committed against you, you're to blame for that criminal continuing to commit those crimes" and that is really fucked up

@Winky keep in mind that Miyazaki was also saying that stuff in the 1980s - his reflective essay on the life of Tezuka was entirely framed around him saying things like "everything Tezuka said or thought was wrong", that Tezuka's work had ruined the Japanese animation industry, etc. There's another essay published in 1982 where he derides animation that isn't within his specific vision, and says that the advent of home video will finally be the death knell of bad/limited animation (since it will just start cannibalising itself) and he can start getting stuff he likes out there.

There's definitely changes that happened in the period, and the presentation I'm giving at a conference next week is mostly about the changes in narrative structure that changed between the pre- and post-1990s, but Miyazaki has always loathed the animation industry spawned by "Tezuka's curse" (aka anything limited animation).
