So last weekend I got to see part of the WWII Disney Propaganda Film that was part of the inspiration for the new movie Inside Out and I thought it was really interesting (historically speaking). There is a ton of things to comment on here.
I make a genuine and regular effort to remember things about forumers but my poor brain is often too dumb to recall things about people that I am sure I know
The movie is super dumb and has some especially problematic gender politics but is so specifically targeted at making me go YEAAAAAAH while dinosaurs do cool shit I couldn't help but love it
So I've seen this come up many times now, but I have yet to see the counter argument that, to me, is insanely obvious:
Claire's character arc is a gender-swapped version of Grant's from the first film. He wants nothing to do with kids. Through actions and dialogue, he makes his opinion more than clear. Tying in with the overall theme of the original, Claire's maternal protective instincts kicked in. Nature found a way*. Now, I'm not saying it was the best way to go about it, and it doesn't explain away her sudden soaked pantie syndrome WRT Owen. Then again, she obviously had some kind of prior attraction to him or they never would have had that first date. If people don't approve of the direction her growth went by the end of the movie, that's cool, but I think it ignores "the point."
* Yes, I am well aware that the line from the original was "Life finds a way." Doesn't change my logic here, though. Life/nature will find a way.

I just saw Jaws in a theater last night. And heck yeah!
And aside from a few shots, it holds up so tremendously well. It's also refreshing where every person on screen has some level of character to them. Even one line backgrounders are given some pinch of characterizations that you just don't really see anymore.

Considering all the other parallels they try and set up, I wouldn't disagree on a fundamental level on what they were going for. But the way that they did it in World compared to Park is just completely nonsensical and inexplicable. In Park, Grant specifically doesn't want kids and since Creative Writing 101 demands that you give your hero what they don't want, he's forced to deal with kids. He's put in a position where he has no choice but to look after them, and in doing so he learns that hey, maybe kids aren't all bad. And just as importantly, the issue of having kids is meaningful and pertinent in his life, because his partner does want kids, and it's obviously a sticking point between them.
In World, the issue of having kids is literally brought up one time, and Claire doesn't even express a feeling one way or the other about kids. It's not made clear whether she wants them, doesn't want them, doesn't care, feels pressured, blah blah blah. It's just like the divorce thing, where it's mentioned once in a hamfisted way and that's supposed to represent character. The big problem with World is that it didn't spend any time defining its characters in meaningful or interesting ways. In Park, after the opening scene with the raptor, you don't see another scary dinosaur until about halfway through the movie, because everything up till then was setting up the characters and the world. In World, they don't waste time with any of that because, like the movie itself says, they think people just want more dinosaurs and more action and more spectacle. And I kind of think the writers truly believed that, and unfortunately the box office has kind of proven them right.
the music is really poorly chosen and servers as a really cheesy, groan worthy narration for the scene
Well, the song is actually about sex, so it's the most appropriate use of the song in any media ever.* Usually it's used to suggest hopeful/pseudo-religious joy/triumph...but that's not remotely what the song is about, so I always roll my eyes and giggle a bit at it.

And it's just one T-Rex.
The T-Rex sneaks into a family's backyard and eats a dog.
Oh yeah, the TRex somehow snuck into the human sized ship bridge and ate everything but the hand holding the wheel.
That was the one thing about the movie that I truly could not fathom an explanation for.
Like a bunch of the other dumb stuff could mostly be movie magic-ed away, but the idea that the rex could get out of the cargo hold, eat the dude on the bridge, then somehow got back in the cargo hold

Maybe someone assumed it was supposed to be raptors on the boat and it didn't noticed till way too late into editing.
Man, raptors on the mainland would've been super scary shit.

The script called for a scene where the Velociraptors got on board the Venture as it was about to set sail. As chaos ensued, the T-Rex also got loose, and killed everything else aboard. This explains why many of the crew members are dead in places the Rex cannot reach. The scene was never filmed.
I'm not sure ships can just start sailing from one port, then without a crew just happen to turn up at exactly the port they were originally going to without anyone controlling anything. It's not like the ports were in a straight line or anything and obviously the ship did not have a fancy computer since it crashed.
Ship navigation is basically just ballstics, right?
We need to talk about the Mad Max: Fury Road Furiosa (#1) comic and how awful it is. Huge content notes on this post, like, in big block capitals and neon letters because this issue is triggery and terrible, and really aptly illustrates just how awful MMFR could have been if it were made without intentionally setting aside lazy (and terrible) narratives about women and rape in order to be better than that. Also, I would honestly recommend going into this post with the mindset that this comic is some kind of terrible non-canon spinoff, because I don't want to ruin MMFR for anyone.
