Question regarding the "Best Of..." button.
Is there a function to collapse quote trees on the Best Of page? I ask because any post that shows up there with a quote tree of more than 5 quotes or so tends to compress the top quote to 1 letter per line and just stretching the post down 3 or 4 screens.
It's better than "that GV2 star up there" and since we have the solar system it just kinda makes sense.
'Kinda makes sense' and 'is right' aren't the same thing
Yeah take it up with the International astronomical union.
For what it's worth I like the name Sol too. But I'm biased because I dig Roman history.

I'm biased because it's the root word for a lot of astronomical crap that we use. Solar calendar. Solar system. Solar cycles. Just call it Sol dammit. 'That GV2 star' is not a fun thing to say.

ceresWhen the last moon is cast over the last star of morningAnd the future has past without even a last desperate warningRegistered User, Moderatormod
In my opinion, I consider these forums to be the model against which all other online communities are judged. The effort taken to foster a high-quality experience in both a top-down manner through moderation, and a bottom-up manner through self-policing is readily apparent. When I go to other forums I'm constantly taken aback by toxic atmospheres, toothless moderation, or mountains of garbage like piles of gifs or mural sized signature images choking every thread.
I lurked here with increasing regularity for probably ten years before ever registering so I probably had a better idea of what to expect than most when I started posting, but I've always felt that moderation policies all had a legitimate purpose and actions taken were done with an eye towards the well-being of the community as a whole. At least with the things I witnessed it never felt like the mods were acting petty or capricious or pushing a particular agenda beyond "Don't be a shitheel in here" and I have much respect for the whole team because of that.
So, my question is: Other than "Follow the Rules" as that goes without saying, is there anything we as posters can do to make this forum an even radder place than it currently is?

I don't think so, not on our end. That feature isn't great, I'm sure improving it is on someone's radar.

Honestly, the best thing people in the community can do is ignoring people that are trying to rile them up. We saw it yesterday, some gurber gumbler came in and tried to get everyone fired up. No one engaged him, so he got increasingly pissy and then just gave up. If people resist the temptation to let rip with their awesome burn , that would happen in 95% of cases.
Just don't be ugly to each other and have fun. That's it.

Tube, I asked a couple questions pertaining to the Writer's Block way back, would you mind considering them?

If I missed anyone's questions, now would be the time to re ask. I'm not going to dig back through 96 pages.

Ok.
First: Is there anyway you would/could remove the 'redirect' threads from the WB? They are causing a lot of clutter on the page since it doesn't move fast.
Second: Can we at least make the forum visible but not searchable so people are aware of its existance? It's an art type forum, and many people of that inclination aren't going to join the forum unless they see it. Hell, I only stopped lurking and joined because this place had an art forum that I could see. I've been looking at the traffic, and we have had a HUGE decline in both new people and new content the last few years.

Would you mind expanding why the second option isn't up for consideration, please?

Also no one is asking you to track KPIs for this community.

I am just looking at the WB since it's something I care about, and I enjoy the community and people it has brought, and I wish to see it continue to grow and not stagnate.

Then I apologize, I thought time had passed enough and while I understand the reasons why it isn't searchable, I still am confused why it isn't visible in some regard. I won't bring it up again.

I blame @ceres
'Kinda makes sense' and 'is right' aren't the same thing
IIRC it's because someone has to manually put each word on a list of "highlight this if it is in square brackets" words
Makes sense. Thought it would be automatic, but that could be abused easily.
Hell, probably could be exploited too.

What a relief, I was getting concerned that our video game ethics weren't ostentatious enough

No, we've already been clear on the reasons for it, and you've had this question answered half a dozen times by various people.
I have a Greasemonkey script somewhere that makes the bracketed bit bolded, but I think I wrote that before we got the color-coded ones.

That's kind of a can of worms. I wouldn't do it again, I don't think it was a great idea but I don't really regret it. It taught me a lot.
The pope is into cocaine, so I know I would.
Sure, just to say I did.
