I heard Jurassic World is perfectly fine, so let's hope he gets it. Otherwise they might give it to some talentless hack, like J.J. Abrams.

have seen both of those films

and we must have watched incredibly different pictures

while i wouldn't call either great, or say that they prove you've got what it takes to make a Star War, this seems waaaaaaaaay off base.

i'm not sure who i want to see make a star wars movie

Jurassic World kind of sucked, in a way that I was not expecting.

Visually super competent, but there wasn't a likable person in the movie and alot of the decisions in writing, editing and shooting came across as mean-spirited and just mean / shitty / dumb.

Great summer blockbuster for the visuals and big fights alone, but in every other way it was terribly lacking.

I hope that this isn't true.

Lucas was a terrible director, yet he still captained A New Hope. I think the producers have a bigger impact making it feel like Star Wars. And the script writer. If the story is tight, I don't think Treverow can fuck it up, but I'm not excited to see his name at all.

Lucas listened to people on his staff behind and in front of the camera, and stopped when someone said no. His ex-wife was an editor too. It was a huge collaborative effort from many parties, not one. His original concept for ANH was very different from what we got. It didn't become the Lucas empire until long after the original trilogy was finished.

I think American Graffiti was an excellent film and as much as I love Star Wars (And I really, really do) it's a shame that we never we never saw anything like that from Lucas again.

I haven't seen it yet, but for everything I've heard, the complaints have dealt with the story vis a vis being a Terminator film, and the horribly spoiled reveal. Not much in the way of actual technical filming?

Yeah, I think that twist could have been a remarkable "Holy crap" moment if it hadn't been spoiled in the trailer.
Seriously, can you imagine that scene if you didn't already know Connor was a terminator?
Connor rescues Sarah and Reese from the cops, walks them to the garage, then old Arny pops out and drops him with a couple of shotgun shells to the chest.
    That would have been great.

Yeah, I'm actually really surprised they used film. The Arri Alexa is the gold standards in Hollywood these days, especially for effects heavy films (and even non-FX films; every movie nominated for the cinematography oscar last year except grand budapest used the Alexa).

Pretty much. Treverow seems competent enough, that's about all I can say for him. Still, with a solid script and good producers, I don't see any reason why he couldn't pull it off. He's definitely not a name that pops out in an "Oh my god, I'd love to see a Star Wars movie by this guy" type of way.

JJ abrams showed he can do both blockbuster action and nostalgia porn with Super 8 and Star Trek. He's a perfect fit for what audiences want from Star Wars.

Colin Trevorrow is a dumb sexist shit who made a really terrible dinosaur movie filled with bad editing, poor cinematography, awful writing, and wooden acting.

I guess he'd be a natural fit to direct the Prequels.

I feel like with Disney monitoring how everything is going, if something is trash they aren't going to let it hit theaters. Nothing will kill the marketing of all of their extra stuff they will sell than a complete flop.

I agree that jurassic world wasnt that great, it was mostly just a bunch of useless humans running around getting killed while stuff blows up (basically transformers but with dinosaurs). I seriously doubt that any single person will have complete say over what is going on in any Star Wars movie, so just because some dude gets put in charge doesn't mean there won't be others reign him in.

Abrams was in the perfect position to save it, the writers are all long time colleagues of his in movies and tv shows, and Bad Robot is heavily involved in Trek. When he directed Trek he was effectively in charge of the franchise. He hasn't got as much control with Star Wars.

That sounds like a lot of interpersonal politics and corporate bullshit. I mean, if he were friends with Orci and Kurtzman, and they had eternal studio backing, given their previous successes, I doubt Hollywood protocol would have allowed him to tank them.

By not having as much control on Star Wars, he's freed from having to worry about pissing off his friends.

Hollywood is some bullshit, is what I'm saying.

I just went ahead and rewatched the Phantom Menace trailer, the original Star Wars trailer (anh), and then the Ep7 teaser trailers.

Dear god if there were no light sabers or Yoda in the Phantom Menace trailer there's like nothing that makes me feel like it's a Star Wars film.

Also, the Yoda animatronics in this trailer are Fraggle Rock quality.

I have to officially say there's a much better chance at it not sucking that the PT. I mean, the tone, the look, everything about it feels like someone who knows what the hell Star Wars is.
