Bridge to Tarabithia is an extremely, extremely, famous book about helping young children cope with death.

It was literally written by the author as a way to explain death to her kid after he lost his best friend.

I never saw the marketing for it, but I don't know how you could either be old enough to not have some familiarity with it or young enough where the marketing of what happens in the story wouldn't ruin a lot of its importance.

oh no no no, the marketing for that movie makes it look like Transformers crossed with Narnia, it's super misleading.

It's like THESE KIDS GO TO A MAGIC LAND AND HAVE CRAZY ADVENTURES, COME SEE THIS FUN MOVIE WE PROMISE NO ONE DROWNS

hahah oh man bridge to tarabithia, I read that book when I was a kid and then I saw the trailer whenever it came out and my thought was "hahahaha oh shit some parents are going to be fucking pissed"

Is the relationship between the kid and teacher as creepy in the book

There isn't really one at all?

Oh wait, did they market it as a fun romp through Narnia?

    Oh boy.

The book is an extremely mature look at children, escapism, death, coping, and moving on.

So yeah, if they filled that shit with CGI monsters and other wacky bullshit then I am just laughing.

I mean, I didn't really figure how the fuck they were going to make a movie out of it anyway. You can't really make a kids movie out of that book anyway. I mean, the book is meant for kids to read, but depicting it on the big screen is uh...different.

Jesus Munkus, he hadn't read the book. Does it really matter if his school failed to run their reading list past you fifteen years ago?

There are a couple books that I just assume people my age have either read or know the jist of.

The Giver. Animal Farm. To Kill a Mockingbird. 1984.

Bridge to Terabithia I don't expect people to have read it, but I figured everyone had heard of it at some point.

No, it means that the book went off the reading lists after I got past that age. Which sucks.

well I've never read The Giver, it seems to be an American thing? I'd never heard of it before these forums. Yeah there's a western canon of sorts when it comes to children's/YA literature but it's definitely not gonna be universal.

You could read it in an hour at this age. It's pretty neat! I think they made a movie out of it? Which I do not understand at all because the thing is like 75 pages double spaced, and half of what makes the book work is that it's written in first person perspective.

I cannot remember the last time I saw a movie with a sex scene that added anything to the story or couldn't be accomplished by the characters stumbling out of bed half dressed the next morning.

Also, I really do hope that the tagline to Bridge to Terabithia was We Promise No One Drowns

I dunno. Some people enjoy those scenes, and that's entirely fine. I feel that people should be more open about their occasional voyeuristic desires.

Also when doing right, a sex scene can add a lot of passion and excitement to a movie, it can make it more emotionally engaging as the intimacy of the characters is displayed so powerfully to the viewer.
