Edit: Oh, and the story has actually started going places now, so it's a sort-of interesting read besides the comedy value.
    In ergo: Good webcomic.

There have always been comics that will have a disproportionate amount of people in the thread getting aggressively mad at for being bad. I think that's the real reason the thread is always on the edge of being banned, not the reasons people always worry about.

I don't think any comic posted in this thread is so outright offensive enough that it mandates someone demanding it not be hosted on Imgur (and therefore not hotlinking) so they can AdBlock it rather than scroll past.

Oh, it would help if I read her news updates:
    No. We're not dead...

BUT I'M ALMOST DONE WITH SCHOOL.

Never thought it'd be this hard, but it was and my commencement is the 10th of June and I'm excited! After that I still have to work on rewrites but no more classes and since the goal was always to come back to comics after school was done, that's exactly what I'm going to do. This means The Fox Sister's moving from the bottom of my priorities back up to the top and finally, FINALLY, we're going to finish this puppy off!

Seventeen pages to go and then it's onto the next story!

So perhaps it will start again soon?

The problem with the "thousand fold" thing is that there's more to steel than the number of times it has been folded, and there comes a point where you fold it too much and ruin it.

The folding process doesn't make good steel better - it's just a way of taking iron of inconsistent quality, and the folding ends up averaging all that shit out, so now there's no weak spot. There's early European swords that do the same technique, but it mostly stops once they get better smelting, because a tool that's about as good but takes a quarter of the time to make is a better tool.

It's the problem with just saying the sharpest sword is the best, it's a weapon of war and a lot more matters than how sharp it is. If you have a badass assault rifle that is perfectly accurate... But can't be repaired in the field and breaks all the time, it's still a garbage weapon.

A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

It's much easier to ignore comics you don't like when people aren't complaining about them all the time.

But there's no way to really regulate that kind of discussion because there have been plenty of times where people like a comic but have issues with an aspect of a certain character or current plot point, or people who like a comic and people who don't like a comic discuss it together, and there are also plenty of times where comics were posted that everyone thought were garbage but then it turns out nope, they weren't you just had a bad initial impression of them.

Also, one of the advantages of heavier western weaponry was that even if it couldn't cut through armour, the weight meant it could effectively be used as a bludgeoning weapon to break bones.

I also don't know if you'd describe Samurai as 'great' archers exactly; it's more that unlike western knights, who had taken to wearing full-plate with gauntlets and greaves, most samurai armour left the hands (and feed) lightly armoured, allowing them the dexterity necessary to use bows. It's not so much that they were good or bad at archery (I mean, presumably they would be good), but rather that they weren't specialised infantry, and were training with bow as well as sword.

A 'western' comparison might be the Ottoman Sipahi, who generally were horse archers wearing mail, with the horse barded and they generally were also trained with sword and lance.

...and of course, as always, Kill Hitler.

They could be as light as a katana, or heavier, depending on the point of history you're talking about, region etc. Although when I say heavy I'm not talking like, cumbersome or truly macelike. Their primary use is still cutting/slashing/thrusting. But there is, iirc, a period in the development of full-plate where cutting becomes obsolete, and so instead you had knights trying to knock each other out with concussive force, or break a bone where the plate armour hasn't been secured properly (since otherwise the force is well distributed).

Also, old medieval manuals showing pommel-bashing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mordhau although I don't think we know how often this actually happened.

(also, the use of gauntlets allows holding a sword half-sword, with one hand on the blade itself, for better thrusting against armoured opponents, something else that's not possible with a katana).

Plate armour eventually split weapons development down the middle; in one direction you had maces and, eventually, spiked warhammers to pummel and pierce through the plates and, in the other, you had rapiers that were light and agile enough to be used exclusively as thrusting weapons against joints and eye sockets.
Then firearms made plate armour obsolete and agility in general won out for a time, until the science of ballistics and, ironically enough, the metallurgical improvements required to even make a worthwhile rapier in the first place, made carrying a long blade in war more of a liability than anything else; dead weight that doesn't keep you alive and could just as well trip you.

...because dragons are AWESOME! That's why.

The funny thing about samurai is a fact that Extra History mentioned about them switching sides over long term and short term rivalries, revenge, and power plays, while Ninja were actually the ones with honor and supported their causes through thick and thin and beheading all the enemy commanders between their lords and freedom.

    Samurai:I'm the captain now!
Ninja:Wait here, captain. My men and I will cut you a path.
