Heh, got bored and took a raider, decimator, and tie advanced up against two k-wings (TLT), 2 b-wings (HLC), 2 awing, and a gr-75. Started up decently with things going well for the imps, taking out a b-wing. Until I misjudged the distance on my decimator and it got ran over by the gr-75 (Which makes no sense, considering it has more hull and shields than the cargo ship) on the same turn the advanced got blown out of the sky.
After second turn;
Right before boom
I then got greedy with the cargo ship while trying to ram the raider for the free crit card, and accidentally ran over one of my k-wing's.
The raider then spent the rest of the game benny hillying it across the map, trying to repair as much damage with the welding bot as it could to stay alive, while still taking shots. It actually got it down to just him and the cargo ship, where I called it since there was no way for the rebel side to win.
The k-wing's with the TLT were doing a lot of damage, although I think I would have dropped the non-miranda k-wing for a y-wing with TLT and a astro instead, and the a-wings for another similar y-wing. The three of them are pretty good damage and very durable.
I agree on the raider for the same reason, it's damage is just very anemic since you can only get 1 target lock, and can have 5 attacks in a turn. I would rather just have 3-4 decimator's instead. You get far more durability, and better damage output. All you lose is the possible sustain from being able to repair yourself, and some range.
Instead of a give a free action to a ship, it should have had a focus token action that affects all the attacks it makes that round.
I also have a hard time judging where a turn is going to take the ship.
The x1 title is amazing and really put the advanced in a very solid position. I hope the same thing gets done for the defender at some point (although hopefully not packaged with a huge ship).
The only bad part is, it does make the advanced prototype in the next wave seem far less interesting, since it can't use it.
@Sokpuppet
Anything specific for the Hawk that the TLT does better than in say, a Y-wing?
The HWK (with TLT) is two points cheaper for identical damage output and very comparable durability.
It is really hard to want to chase down a Spice Runner or Rebel Operative while Bossk or IG-88 floats around dealing death, but if you ignore the HWK to deal with bigger threats it just sits there pumping out damage - you are basically ceding them two free points. It's a Teemo problem; screwed if you chase, screwed if you don't.
The other thing is the Crew slot, which is extremely versatile. You can toss a Recon Specialist in there and have focus tokens for defense and possibly your attacks. You can toss Bossk in there and light people up. Jan Ors, Greedo, Lando, whatever. It's just really cheap and effective in a wide variety of situations.
The Twin Laser Turret is awesome on the Y-wing too, but it has slightly different applications. Nobody is going to hesitate much before chasing down a Y-wing with a TLT.
That's tye first time I've seen huge ships next to the smaller ones. Jesus suffering Fuck that's a big fucking ship.
Canon wise, the scary thing? It is only 150m long.
The imperial star destroyer is over 1k meters long. I can't imagine attacking something like that in an A-wing, it would probably feel like throwing rocks at the empire state building.
That's still 3 1/2 football fields. That's a hell of a size difference. But I've never seen the actual game ship next tothe smaller ships as a size reference. Up to this point, I thought the big ships were the Falcon and Slave V (?) but even they would be dwarfed by that ship.
So I've only collected casually, I have a starter, a phantom, a y wing, a hwk and a b wing
What one or two things should I get to flesh out and have something I could play with at a games shop
The Most Wanted box would be a great option for you.
It comes with a bunch of new things for the Y-wing & HWK, cards for the Firespray, an additional Y-wing, and two Z-95 Headhunters. If you do pick up Most Wanted, the next obvious step would be to snag the Hound's Tooth or a Firespray to round out your Scum lists.
Other good options would be a K-wing (goodies for the Y-wing, HWK, and B-wing) or a VT-49 Decimator (pairs well with the Phantom).
Speaking of big ships, can we talk about how big the K-wing is?
It's ... gigantic. And just to remind you, it is a small base ship.
It's bigger than a b-wing:
It's bigger than a Starviper:
Is it... bigger than an Agressor, which is a large base ship?
Wait, really?
Yes really.
What about a Yt-2400?
Ok it's a little bit smaller, but it is pretty close.
Here it is on a large base, just to see how it would look:
It overhangs on the sides, but doesn't fill up the whole space. Still, this thing is just huge.
Yeah, I thought the same exact thing when I first got mine. The only thing I can think of is, they didn't want to give it the extra speed making it a large ship would give it? It's dial is already super small, taking off the 3's would make it really hard for the opponent to not be able to guess which way you were going.
Technically it is a fighter though, most of it's size is just wings to hold all the explosives. The Aggressor is actually cargo space. If you take off the wings, its basically the same size as a B-Wing.
e:
Now compare the punisher. THAT thing is huge, it is literally as big as the Aggressor. :P
alternatively Rebel Aces is a good next step for rebel lists, it expands what you can do with B-wings, like letting you add a crew upgrade to them (and kind of pulled A-wings out of the gutter by making them cheaper)
plus then you would have both Jan Ors cards, y'know. If that's something you're into.
Most Wanted is a very throrough Scum starter kit though, which'll do a lot for your HWK and Y-wing, that's a pretty good thing. A large ship might also be interesting, they typically come with a lot of upgrades you can apply to small ships as well.
Snuck in a game with the Punisher this evening.
"Deathrain" is a lot of fun to fly.
He managed to pop off four Seismic Charges and two Homing Missiles and nearly closed out a game against a Kihraxz, a Headhunter, and a Hound all by his lonesome.
Ironically I would have won if I'd packed even more missiles...
or if the ones I'd brought had performed a lil' better. Concussion Missiles next time, I think.
I knew about force friday, I never saw any mention of new FFG stuff being released.
Does Target even carry the FFG stuff? Their website doesn't list any.
Yeah, I only really wanted to grab one tomorrow if possible, because I was planning on sitting down to paint my imps this weekend, and wanted the two extra tie's around when i did it.
I've made a couple of attempts at painting Imperials.
Some were not totally disastrous, but all ended in jars of Simple Green.
The XWMG stuff seems to respond best to inks.
I have a blue wash I was going to try using. Not going to repaint the entirety of the models, models. Mostly just the edges or solar panels of the TIE's.
I might try fully painting my Lambda's because I hate the all white.

they carry the starter set at least, yeah. It's up now, if it wasn't before. link
Alternatively, you could be smart like me and buy two copies of the Force Awakens starter set to match the two copies of the original starter set because I need all the minis.

I've been curious about this game for a while, but not going to lie: I just want the models for my star wars RPG.
I'm prepared for the pain this will cause my wallet...
If all you're looking for is models for the RPG, the old WOTC Starfighter Battles miniatures work well for that and are a lot cheaper, in addition to having a wider range of craft available. Mostly available on eBay now.
If aught else, use the FFG ships for your PCs and elite enemies and the WOTC ships for mooks.

I probably won't be able to find WOTC Starfighter miniatures easily and I actually really like the FFG ones. I actually don't need a massive model count, because I can call on 3 people I know to make a combined fleet if required.
Just buy a different scaled model and put it on another table. Tell them not to go near it. If they DO make an attack run on one, use a playmat: http://www.gf9.com/Default.aspx?tabid=348&art_id=4160
Because that's the difference in scale between a fighter and a Star Destroyer.
Another option would be to check Shapeways. Lots of quality 3d printed Star Wars minis available there.
Might be cheaper, might not. I dunno.

I was just going to suggest printing ou an appropriate number of pages to make a background the ships would be flying over if they ended up that close to a star destroyer.
Local Target had these so I grabbed 2 (mostly for the new X-wing). The new rule book is nice, adds all the random new rule additions into one spot for easy reference.
One thing I noticed on upgrade cards;
"Ship-type only: This upgrade can only be equopped to a ship of the specified type. If the ship's type includes the entirety of the restricted typce, it can equip that card. For example, a TIE/fo fighter can equip an Upgrade card restricted to "TIE fighter only."
So that means the tie advanced prototype can equip the TIE Advanced/X1 title right? Since it is for "TIE Advanced only"?
I hope that is the case, since it will actually keep that ship competitive.
e:
Also I don't remember if we saw the TIE/fo dial in the leak, but it can apparently sengor's loop at speed 2.
Actually, if anyone desperately needs one the Target near me has 9 in stock, and there are others nearby with even more. Personally, I'd wait until it's available elsewhere, since you can easily save $10-$14.

The decimator (right in front of the raider) in my screenshots above are about the size of a falcon/slave 1, so you can see the difference.
So I've only collected casually, I have a starter, a phantom, a y wing, a hwk and a b wing
What onw or two things should I get to flesh out and have something I could play with at a games shop
Without knowing what you want, I would say maybe a k-wing and a slave-1?
Rebel side you can run B-Wing w/HLC, K-Wing with TLT, Hawk w/TLT and some other random upgrades.
The Slave-1 can be used with both Imp's and scum, but you would need a most wanted pack to convert your y-wing and hawk to scum versions.
You could run something like this with the k-wing/slave-1, not the most competitive, but decent.
Imp:
“Echo” (42)
TIE Phantom (30), Gunner (5), Fire-Control System (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Krassis Trelix (46)
Firespray-31 (36), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Proximity Mines (3)
Academy Pilot (12)
Rebel:
Keyan Farlander (38)
B-Wing (29), Fire-Control System (2), Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Miranda Doni (40)
K-Wing (29), Twin Laser Turret (6), Proximity Mines (3), Advanced SLAM (2)
Rebel Operative (22)
HWK-290 (16), Twin Laser Turret (6)
