The part that bugs me is that there is litterally no reason they couldn't have busted out either some CGI or (if they wanted to do something really cool) gotten a team of puppetteers to come in and done something awesome and memorable.

For gods sake, at least get some fox ears and a tail if you're going to include a kitsune in an episode.

But at least they got Tara to play a vampire and I know it was cheap fan service stunt casting but it totally worked on me.

You know its funny we complain that supernatural feels like fan fiction written, but fans of the show could do a lot better.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

    Yeah, no.

I have no interest in seeing Sam and Dean relentlessly hump eachother for an hour each week while crying out for daddy.

Isn't that what's currently happening? The show being written by a bunch of fanbois and fangirls who got their act together and became professional writers instead of publishing fanfic on the internet? ;)

Ya know, based on that episode with the fan fiction play, I figured the writers were agreeing with this.

All of Robbie Thompson's episodes are basically fanfic. Adam Glass's episodes were Dean-centric fanfic except he projected his own childhood onto Dean no matter how little it made sense. Buckner and Ross-Leming's episodes just suck.

I would actually come back to watch a few episodes of these two sobbing as they bugger each other.

And it's not even because I like gay porn or incest but because I would be able to laugh my ass off at it.

I want an episode where Sam and Dean have to infiltrate an FBI building and their inside contact just laughs at them because no one would think Sam is FBI with hair that long.

For those interested in Supernatural hi-jinx that isn't stupid I recommend From Dusk Till Dawn's tv series. It has two outlaw brothers that hunt vampires, a pretty cast and a well thought out mythology.

First season's on Netflix, the current season's running on El Rey Network.

I'd been wondering about FDTD. I keep seeing it pop up in my recommendations on Netflix. I'll give it a shot after I finish rewatching Buffy and Angel, I think.

    The problem is twofold

First, is the fact that the supernatural fandom is a terrible bouillabaisse of creepy incest yearning neurotic wackadoos who will vocally stand against any character development, additional characters(especially female ones, cause it reminds the creepy people that the brothers are not, in fact, incestuous gay lovers), or progress of any kind.

Second, the stupid fucking writers and producers that are too scared/stupid to tell them to fuck off

  • ReznikReznik Registered User regular
It doesn't help that when the writers decide to give Sam or Dean a love interest, they literally write a new character whose only defining traits are "love interest" and expect that to fly.

Amelia was one of the worst characters I've ever seen.

Also for some reason they keep burning through ideas in an episode or two. "Dean's a demon" yeah that's probably only good for what, three episodes? If that? Now on to something new! I miss the days of building up Lillith or Lucifer as these big time threats and then seeing their plans and schemes come to fruition over time while the brothers try to stop them. Now we have problems that get resolved pretty much instantly and the only season big bads are the brothers being annoyed at each other. The Frankenstein family could have been cool, but they ended that pretty damn quickly as well. It's like they have a bucket of ideas they have to get through before the show ends. Draw one out, give it some slow burn, let the adversary get actually scary.

Gotta burn through any dangerous new ideas so we can get back to the status quo of angsty Winchester distrust issues.

Its why I say nothing changes, sure we've delt with the angels falling, metatron trying to be god, the mark of cain, etc..but we burn through them, forget all the lessons learned, and back to the brotherly slapfighting and I HATE YOU I LOVE YOU I CANT TRUST YOU I HATE YOU YOU HAVE TO TRUST ME I LOVE YOU.

its something that everyone has repeatedly said since season 7, when it was obvious the show had gone off its stellar season 1-5 rails.

I'm still angry that they just scorched earth'd the Frankenstein family because they could have been such a fantastic recurring antagonist situation for multiple seasons.

Another one of the best post-season 5 plot threads the show has ever featured.

And also dropped pretty much immediately for no good reason.

Even 'not as good as Hellboy time nazis' could've been better than most of what they have done, though.

I hope the Darkness gives us an actual eldritch eldritch abomination that the brothers can deal with, going up against cultists and lesser inhuman servant-creatures and so forth, rather than what has constituted an 'Old One' in the show so far. I thought the Leviathans were alright, but they weren't exactly Lovecraftian entities - mainly they were just a nastier kind of vampire.

I'm pretty sure The Darkness already has a human manifestation cast for it so it's probably going to, if not really really suck, at least be terribly disappointing.
