My anticipation of this game is far too great. I expect such great things of it, that it will never be able to satisfy everything I hope it to be able to do.
But oh, if it could, if it could...
Oh, right, on the Wii, too. Thats pretty cool, I can see the wiimote and nunchuck being just as effective for controlling this as a mouse and keyboard.
Edit: One of the coolest things about it, however, is the community in the game. Imported races from other people filling up your galaxy? YES! Infinite variety... of penis monsters. The Wii should not be denied the storage of many, many penis monsters.

Is this game ever coming out?
It seems like it has been in production since forever.
I was going to say that I would choose my Mac over the Wii because I don't bring my Wii with me to university - then came the terrible realisation that the residential network in my accommodation block will probably deny Spore access to the Internet in any case. So either way I'm boned Internet-wise during term time, so I might as well buy it for my Mac and save fighting over the TV when I get home.

I see no reason why other people's creatures wouldn't show up in the Wii version just as well as the PC version. That's basic WiiConnect 24 type functionality.

Wright has said recently that the PC version is about 6 months away
6 MONTHS!?
It's not that far away. In a couple days it'll only be 5 months. And they plan on releasing the creature editor for free a month or so before it comes out.

That is very awesome.
Very VERY awesome.
EDIT: That's DOUBLE very.
What would be awesomer is if they also released the Vehicle Creator. Animating creatures is one thing, but seeing how they get the vehicles to be created is just short of godly. My goodness, you could build anything! Like aforementioned Land Raiders!
The only next gen system I've seen is the Wii - the PS3 and the Xbox 360 feel like better versions of the last, but pretty much the same game with incremental improvement.
Ha, the 360 and PS3 are so last gen.
Anyway, this is EA. They will put their games on pretty much every platform, including TI calculators.

I like the bitter irony of Will Wright, developer of PC games, calling the PS3 and 360 merely an incremental upgrade.
Which has been exactly what Pcs have been since, oh I dont know, 1983.
Spore only accesses Maxis' servers, not other players. No need for friend codes.
But havent Maxis said that this is entirely opt in? So that you can if you want receive the creatures on a friends list only? How would this work on Wii?
So you either have no 'foreign' creatures populating your galaxy or 'all' of them.
Im not trolling, or bashing anything. Im genuinely trying to understand it. Spores online hasnt really been detailed too much. Then again, not much of the game has.

You can create an in-game friends list so that it will download that players content everytime he creates new stuff that gets uploaded to the servers, so you are still downloading everything, but it gives your friends content a higher priority. Everything goes through Maxis' servers.
And yes, you can also disable downloading content, and ban certain players content.
It seems like it has been in production since forever.
They first announced it in March of 2005.
It seems longer.
It's getting up on three years now. That's a fairly long time.
recent article i read said it had been in development since about 2000. We've only known about it for around 3 years.
edit: on the news itself, i sort of doubt it'll be the same as the pc version, i wouldn't imagine a direct port. Maybe more of a Spore for Wii kind of thing modified and stuff.

It's been in development since 2000, the design docs have been in Wired since 2004, the game was first revealed in 2005.
And Xenocide Geek, it's not a limitation, it's a priority list.
i think subjecting yourself only to your 'friends' list would be stupid
a big innovative part of Spore is the population of the world by creatures of other peoples creation.
it's like a huge collection of art, ever updating.
If Second Life has taught me anything, it's that I don't want other people's "art" anywhere near my systems.
The game sounds like awesome fun by itself, playing a sim on every level. Who needs more lousy content? If I want more I'll make it myself or get some from trusted friends.
It's cool to see Will Wright's apparent love for Nintendo.
If the Wii version is similar enough to the PC version, I honestly don't know which one I'll be getting.

Shit, how is the PC version going to stop this?
Opt in for other players creatures? Friends list only? Hell, I probably trust my friends less.

April.
EA pushed it forward for major financial income.

Not when they meet up with my Land Raiders!

I am pretty sure my computer is not up to snuff, and I do not have the cash to make it so.
Therefore, assuming we get something at least relatively the same as the PC version, this is fantastic news.
I'm not gonna hold my breath though. Aren't the console versions of The Sims completely different from the PC versions?

Considering that it's an EA game, not a Nintendo game, Nintendo won't do anything.
Anyway, this is EA. They will put their games on pretty much every platform, including TI calculators.
I was talking about how Spore will work on the Wii, considering its 'always online' and yet on Wii you have no friends list per se.
As in, what will Nintendo do to enable Spore to actually work on Wii. My best guess, like you said they will do nothing and it will be offline only.

Umm...
EA will be the ones to make it online.
Other EA games on the Wii use EA's online service, Spore won't be different.

My Andalites would mess you up.
-A planet inhabited by creatures identical to the ones on earth.
-A planet inhabited by Pokemon.
-A galaxy populated by creatures based upon Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I do hope you mean top hats and/or bowlers.
This is fantastic news, btw!
Hmmm... You've given me ideas on my creatures... This will be most excellent.
