Grunt's Ghosts v. Elvenshae (W)
Comradebot v. Sokpuppet
[Expletive deleted] and crimsoncoyote - BYE
EDIT: And, no, the Inquisitor's ship isn't out yet.
I thought I beat you and only lost against Sokpuppet last season. That was so long and many deathsticks ago that I may have told the tale differently to some Twi'Lek slave girl in some backwater bar on some nameless mining rock by now.
So next weekend I'll be introducing one of my EotE players to X-Wing!
He really wants to play, but currently only owns a Firespray (he's a huge Fett fan), so I am bringing the mat and the ships and teaching!
I am super excited for it because I love sharing games (especially X-Wing) with people... and I can maybe get him to buy more ships and play on Vassal eventually ;-)
spoiler in case he reads this post:
Anyway, I was thinking of maybe working the results of the X-Wing dogfight into the Edge campaign. I'm not really sure if creating a custom pilot for the adversary they have been evading (the Trandoshan from the EotE beginner game) is a good idea/necessary, but I think it'd be cool if it affected the EotE game in some way.
Any ideas on what would work? I think simply re-flavoring an existing pilot would be ok, but I am worried it might put a target on that ship that otherwise wouldn't be as big of a deal...
Fakedit: ... I kinda wish I had a YV-666 now... Hound's Tooth title would probably work perfectly for that; if he blows it up, escape with the Nashta Pup and deal with him proper in the RPG itself
Actually, second/followup question related to the first part:
I need to come up with a couple squads for that game. Any ideas for him to fly? I think something fairly easy to pilot and decent hull/shields would be good (e.g. probably not 3xTIE Interceptors or a full TIE swarm).
At the same time, I need to come up with a list myself that won't be too hard for him to fly against.
I am not going with the "pilot's first game" setup because he's seasoned enough with other miniature games, and I expect we'll only have time to get one game in.
Copy the Suicide Squadron. It's a simple list that's more for flying skill and pilot ability vs. special tricks that's great for teaching the basics while expert enough to give you a few Aces to pull if you need it. I'd replace DC with something else to give the Academy Pilots some backing (Like Backstabber) but it's a good Imp list that's currently going strong right now.

Yeah that's not too bad of an idea. If I don't do that exactly, it'll be something with similar ideas.
Another Idea is creating a custom pilot based on his character. Take something about his character and make it his special ability. Like if I took my Inquisitior from Jdarksun's game; he was reckless. He came up with the plan of flying the shuttle into the station at full speed and crash it into the pirate welcoming party and later Force Moved an Anti-Vehicle Mine to explode some pirates even through he would be in the blast radius. So for him I'd give him an Interceptor and the following ability:
While Stressed, decrease your Agility by 1 and increase your Attack by 1.
With Push the Limit, he'd most likely stay stressed and keep with the spirit of the character.
"Each kit includes three stylized plastic protectors to house your ships' maneuver dials. In addition, you'll find dial ID tokens with ship icons to easily identify which dials match your ships in the heat of battle. See your whole dial, choose your maneuvers quickly, and play with style with the Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kits."
His trio of heavily-missiled bombers and Maarek in the TIE/Adv triumphed over Keyan, Tycho, and Salm. Further write-up to come when I don't have work to do!
"In addition, these plastic maneuver dials provide an easy way for you to differentiate between your dials at a glance. Each maneuver dial includes a space on the back for you to insert a dial ID token that displays a silhouette of the corresponding ship. A pack of maneuver dials includes three dial ID tokens for every ship from the T-65 X-wing and TIE Fighter in the original X-Wing Core Set, up to the T-70 X-wing and TIE/fo fighter from Star Wars: The Force Awakens™ Core Set!
Soon, every X-Wing expansion will include a dial ID token for you to use with your plastic maneuver dials if you so choose. These will begin with the Ghost Expansion Pack, the Mist Hunter Expansion Pack, the Punishing One Expansion Pack, and the Inquisitor’s TIE Expansion Pack. Standard cardboard maneuver dials will still be included in each expansion."

Thanks for a fun match!
Thought I was in deep trouble from the outset - especially with Gamma Three flying like a drunkard.
Fortunately for me, various opportune defensive rolls kept my bombers alive & threatening for juuuuuuuust long enough.
Maarek was spewing Direct Hits all over the place. I look forward to seeing what he can do with the new crit deck, when the time comes!

I'm stupid busy this week, but I'm taking next week off completely (changing jobs, woo, vacation time). I'll try to catch up on my missed games with @DaMoonRulz and @crimsoncoyote then if we don't manage to do something sooner.

Just finished my game with Grunt's Ghosts. I got the win, but we had to call it due to time. Grunt's Tie swarm was fearsome, but Dash with autoblaster got close and got dirty. Then ran like hell for three rounds.

Nimbles didn't get hit, almost flew off the board, then made a hell of a Left Turn 1 to land just barely on the field. And he lives unscratched!

Also, Serious respect for GG for using Vassal on a laptop. Seriously that's just damned good window management
I flew 3 Prototype Pilot A-Wings with Chardaan Refit and Autothrusters, and Dash Rendar in the Outrider with Mangler cannon, VI, and a Recon Specialist.
I wasn't a fan of the Recon Specialist, since I barely ever focused (I think I took a focus all of once; 90% of my actions were barrel rolls).
And I just didn't pack enough of a punch, but I still eked out a win.
It's VERY difficult to hit Tycho with a turret weapon when he has Autothrusters, an Evade token, and a Focus token. He's guaranteed to get 2 evade results if he rolls all blanks.
We went like 10 rounds at the end with no damage taken by either squad.
I won because I was able to block with my last A-Wing and deny Tycho any actions, while rolling 3 crits with Dash.
First, I looked at Dash as being, basically, a 3-dice-per-round attacker with a boatload of health, and the A-Wings as being a 6-dice-per-round blob with only slightly more total health that could be whittled down quickly to reduce their damage output, and a couple ion shots early would be enough to break up their formation and sow confusion. Instead, I should have remembered my main criticism of A-Wings and why I'm quickly realizing that I don't particularly care for them: they're very, very survivable craft (especially when they're double-dodging Tychos) with absolutely shit performance when it comes to actually putting damage on anything. 6-dice in 2-dice lots is way easier to deal with than 3-at-a-time-every-time, and they've got way too many dodge dice, making it hard to actually kill one - it took Salm 2 rounds of shooting to take out one of them that was already at 1 health, and he was firing main guns and an ion turret each time! I should've largely ignored the A-Wings and rounded hard on Dash. Once I finally adjusted and got Dash under my guns, he went really quickly from full health to 2 Hull remaining, but by that point he'd already done enough damage to take out Keyan's B-Wing and then nailed Salm with a Direct Hit to take out his last two hull before Salm could return the favor. Salm should basically have spent the match playing "Hunt the Render," as opposed to trying to disrupt A-Wings.
Second, Dash is basically completely immune to debris obstacles, which means he basically ignored all the obstacles in the center of the map and was able to just do donuts the entire time. Seriously, Dash can basically just rotate in place with a sharp turn and a barrel roll back. It was super obnoxious.
Then, the biggest game changer in the late game, was when I had Tycho absolutely perfectly positioned to drop onto CC's remaining A-Wing's tail, who had just 1 health, take a TL and a Focus largely out-of-range of Dash, and (probably) kill it, massively simplifying the board and allowing me some breathing room against Dash. And, instead of dialing in a 2-speed-right-bank, I accidentally left the dial at a 2-speed-left-bank. This dropped me into some debris, and CC's A-Wing was able to get back into a blocking position on the next turn. I never got another decent shot on CC's A-Wing, and when Tycho did draw a bead on Dash, he whiffed hard.
On the last turn, I guessed wrong - I knew CC's A-Wing was going to end up in front of Tycho, and pulled a 1-left-hard-turn thinking that it would sneak me past him. It would've worked for basically any other move that CC's might have made, but he made a 1-right-hard-turn, and I ended up landing right on top of him. As I was playing it, I was thinking, "I should make this a two-speed turn," but I elected not to in order to avoid the debris field ahead (which, I think, I might have been safe with even with a two-speed turn).
[EDIT: Guessing right would probably have resulted in several more turns before we hit a result, so in that sense, I'm not that sad about it; c.f. "endurance match" ]
Last, I totally forgot to haxxor the dice; I think Keyan / Salm rolled a grand total of 1 Evade result between them the entire game. (Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe a slight overstatement.)
So as someone who saw this in a store recently and decided to do some research on the PA forums before purchasing. How reliable is this site? Also how good is this to start ones adventure in spending more money? Would it be better to buy the original starter box instead?

CSI is a staple website. Totally reliable.
Each of the cores has things going for it, but The Force Awakens set is probably/definitely the core to start out with at this point.
