The game I'm in started a bit earlier than you guys', and it only took a couple days to go from "At current mining rate X will win in 30 days" to "X will win in 5 days" as people snapped up all the empty outposts and people started getting knocked out. Mining rate depends on the number of outposts, and it starts to add up quick.

So I decided to grab this game and have been working through the challenges. I can't tell if the interface is bad or I'm just not grasping it as there have been a couple of times I knew what I needed to do but couldn't manage to make the game do it.
Specialists 6:
So I know I need to get the tinkerer to raise my electrical output so I can have drillers to protect Vintgar and I can't hire one until 4 hours in the future but I can't like manage to scrub the time forward and hire a specialist. cause as soon as I leave the time dial and click on specialists it reverts back.

How do?
You can hire through the queen as well - she should have the option to "jump to hire" too so you don't have to dick with the time thingy either.

I feel like I'm playing okay.
But it's nerve wracking because I can't tell who's attacking who, and it seems to change daily and I'm afraid if I launch subs at one I'll see like three different colors headed my way.

well,
(in all honesty the best thing to do is keep talking to people, even once you're on not so friendly terms with them, because your enemy could be an ally in a day or two)

In all honesty, what happened there was I overextended on my southeast to try and put tal out of the game for good.
I knew I shouldn't have, I KNEW he and bluedude would eventually muster a revenge force against me, but I wanted to see if I could knock him out and then immediately turtle up.
So when I saw all of bluedude's forces launching this morning, I knew I was basically out of the top 3. I COULD probably make something happen, but it'd be costly, bloody, and we'd be too battered to deal with anyone else.
So I resigned. Now -tal and bluedude have to not only deal with the combat that's going to resolve, but they immediately have to figure out how to divy up the remnants of my empire before anyone else falls upon it, without stretching themselves too thin. All while stay friends, even though tal and I were attacking bluedude from the start.
I COULD have sent a bunch of forces at bluedude, but I'd rather make my bases tough nuts to crack. Plus, it gives him more leverage over tal.

I was sending my hypnotist up on a 43 fucking hour adventure to capture that infiltrator but I guess I'll send him home if the game continues that long.

Anzekay is the only one in position to attack stilts
It would take me days to even get to his border
Also you cant win this war, I have over double your driller production and most of them are directly at your border. I can just keep sending 24 drillers at your base for the forseeable future

Oh, I wouldn't be too sure about that.
There are a couple in our game who are weak enough to knock out with a combined effort.
Turtling only helps for so long. At some point you gotta take risks or people will gain too much momentum for you to catch up to.
Side note: do not leave your queen undefended overnight (or anywhere near your borders).

Though they could look even prettier in the future perhaps.

Once a sub is a gift I can't switch it back to attack

I was wondering why you were gifting drillers AND and infiltrator.
That was a test for another maneuver I was hoping to pull off
You can have em
Hardly makes a difference now anyway

It's refreshing, really
I feel like I have energy to divert towards creative ventures for the first time in awhile
I do kinda wish there was a spectator mode though
Though they'd probably be worried about cheating via social media,
