It's part of why I've long since stopped caring about 'tradition' when it comes to college football.

  • So It GoesSo It Goes We keep moving...Registered User regular
What era of football does that cover, and would it be interesting as an Alabama fan with a casual interest in Michigan football?

It is largely about the Hoke era, or more to the point, the Brandon era. It would be most interesting to you if you think Alabama's athletic director is on the more hyper-corporate greed end of the spectrum of ADs and is interested in extracting every last dollar from y'all as opposed to maintaining the things that are cool about college football (i.e. would he ever propose you and Auburn be in different divisions of the SEC and thus not play every year?).
    Elaborate?

Maybe the worst new thing is the culture he installed in the AD where:

    1) Everyone was a yes man/woman with regards to Brandon.
    2) It created Amazon's everyone out for themselves backstabby work environment.

Maybe the funniest moment in the book is where someone suggested he meet with Brian Cook (mgoblog founder) and his response was "No. You can't negotiate with a terrorist" and Cook's response was "That's funny, I also would have refused, for the exact same reason."

    Omfg hahaha

So JT Barrett was driving drunk last night and is suspended for next week. Because their policy is weasel worded to count bye weeks.

Random internet commenters say he happened to be driving a brand new Ford Explorer with dealer tags, but that we're waiting on confirmation.

Last time Nebraska had under 5 wins in a season was 1961. They've never gone into November with 6 losses.

Because it would be the Trojans vs. the 'Cocks.

This is basically the inverse of what happened to the 2011 Michigan team when we caught literally every break on the way to 11-2.

Why did they kick it short like that? Seems like HIIIIIGGGGHHH would be better.

Edit: Still, that's some band on the field shit right there. This whole season has a lot of wacky endings.

ACC suspends crew from Duke-Miami for two weeks, says they made 4 mistakes on the final play: http://www.theacc.com/news/acc-announces-11-01-2015

  • CiriraCirira IowaRegistered User regular
So one of those mistakes indicate the game would have ended. If this is the case I'm not entirely sure why they can't vacate the win for Miami and give it to Duke. I mean Duke would be able to decline the penalties since the result of the guy being down during one of the laterals would end the game correct?

    Perhaps.

But it's the NCAA. Unless the Miami players were caught illegally recruiting for cock fights on the sidelines to earn money for their sick grannies, then they don't vacate shit. They just issue a big ol' apology, let the game stand as called, and maybe give a waiver to allow Duke to qualify for a bowl game if necessary.

    1) overturning a game is a precedent that no one wants a part of. Do it once and everyone will yell at you for everything. Like the duke TD in the Miami game that didn't go in or any other number of potentially consequential missed calls. If you restrict to just calls that obviously changed the outcome then you're probably just making an exception for Duke. And no one else in the league wants that. So you throw Duke a bone by suspending the refs instead.

    2) only one of those mistakes is legit. (Missing the penalty that would have brought it back and given another down). The rest are just padding so that the ACC didn't look like asses assuaging Duke. And even then the play was super hectic and its not surprising that they missed a penalty. Like seriously "you failed to throw a flag for a dead ball penalty with zero seconds on the clock" and "you didn't communicate why you picked up a flag well enough" are only there so the list looks longer; because "you missed a single penalty and made a judgement call on review in favor of the call on the field" aren't neer enough to convince anyone else.

  • GoumindongGoumindong Registered User regular

Yes, but overturning a call on the field requires indisputable evidence, and the call on the field is a judgment call where the refs might not have had the best view. Missing a big penalty is much different (though almost in the same vein). Missing the judgement call is missing the not a legit complaint, its like a bad spot that gives a first down or not.

Random internet commenters say he happened to be driving a brand new Ford Explorer with dealer tags, but that we're waiting on confirmation.

As an update to this, he's suspended for the next game (Minnesota), losses his starting position, the 2016 summer term of his scholarship (which, since he's out of state, is worth something like $23k), and probably his captains position.

As an aside, since Barret was not arrested on drunk driving (the intoxication level was so close to the legal limit it only warranted a citation, like speeding), the Ohio State policy only allowed the school to give him a 1 game suspension.

There was a ref on reddit that said even if they saw the block in the back, they may have opted not to throw the flag because he was blocked into the player with the ball that he then tackeled, so it had no effect on the play. That interpretation ignores the safety purpose of that penalty, however.

But he was under 21, and the Ohio State policy dictates different actions for ANY person under the age receiving an alcohol citation.

Its amazing that he got a lighter crime assigned almost like it was intentional to "tie" the hands of Ohio State from further punishment...

I am surprised that Ohio doesn't have a de-facto law where if you are underage and driving intoxicated at all then that's Drunk Driving.

Because that would be a horribly bad idea, as any "de facto" law would be? If you want to have a zero tolerance law, then it needs to be a law.

Well, there technically is. If you're under 21, the legal limit is .02, which is basically a sip of anything containing alcohol.

I mean, play conspiracy theorist all you want but the police are given the discretion if they arrest you or not. Oddly enough, one of my friends was in almost the exact same situation (albeit not a star college athlete) where he was just issued a citation and was allowed to call someone to pick him up.

Sorry, miscommunication be 'de facto.' I mean the law would determined purely by the facts. Look at this case, look at those facts, automatic shit happens no excuse is applicable.
