External HD questions

Ok, I'm debating between the following 2 HDs-

WD 500 gb internal - $132.25

Acom 500 gb external usb2.0 - $139.99 after $30 mailin rebate

I'm thinking the external one since it's less of a pain in the ass to install/if I get a new PC. However, I've never used an external HD before. Are they any good? Is USB2.0 fast enough to, say, play games off of that hd?

Also, has anyone ever had any experience with Acom? My current hard drive is a Western Digital and I've had no problems, but I've never heard of Acom.

Well, there was a time when I would absolutely refuse to play MII: TW with my friend unless he got me a new HDD, so instead I installed it on the ext HDD and tried playing it from there...no issues whatsoever.

I suppose this would depend on both HDD RPM (5400 RPM was mine) and your USB connection (I think USB2 allows for data rates of about 460+ mbps = around 60 MBps) so it should be fine.

I've never heard of Acom either, and I know everyone hates Hitachi but I've used their drives for like, ever and have had no problems whatsoever. I only know WD and Seagate are the more popular brands though.
