Honestly, though, that is a very strange policy given that Steam can quite easily deny your ability to play a particular game (as Fram has experienced in this case). Not that I'm contending your observation, which I don't doubt, but Valve really should offer refunds of electronic purchases since, unlike with optical media, they actually can take back the goods.

i'm amazed at how well they planned the composition of the areas so that the points of interest are highlighted when you first see them

A lot of the little details in that beginning part was a nice touch. I really liked the red phone that had it's wire cut.
In the commentary the phone was there for an associate to call when GLaDOS goes batshit and flood the enrichment center with a deadly neurotoxin.
