Welcome to the Penny Arcade Guild Wars 2 Community Thread!

Path of Fire Expansion - Releases September 22, 2017

What A Nice Guild [NICE]
gw2-nice.png

The Penny Arcade Community guild in Guild Wars 2 is called What A Nice Guild [NICE]. We play on the Fort Aspenwood server, although guilds are cross-server and we have members who play on other servers. It is easiest to participate in guild activities if FA is your home server, but you can join in most activities (with the exception of World vs World pvp). To permanently switch servers, you have to pay for a transfer or delete all your characters. Fort Aspenwood is a North American server, but we have plenty of people from other regions including Australia and Europe playing with us on FA, so don’t let that dissuade you if you’re located in another region.

Commanders:
@Leandriell (kalzana.3192, Leandriell)
@Ky13 (kyonethree.9814, Teldra)

Officers:
@CorriganX (CorriganX.9685, Corrigan)
@Draygo (Draygo.9473, Delarme)
@Enig (Ansatz.6498, Ansatz Coppertooth)
@Lagnar (Lagnar.9281, RichardRears)
@Kylindra (Kylindra.1794, Sage Persephone)
@mojojoeo (MojoGroove.8253, Mojojoeo)

Rear Admirals:
@Geod (Geod.5024, Geod)

To join the guild:
You can ask for an invite by posting your account name (<name>.####) in this thread, and one of the officers will invite you. Alternately, you’re welcome to whisper in game one of the leaders or officers above. Anyone from the PA community may join the guild, along with any friends and family. Being active on the forums is encouraged but not required. Guild policies are loosely based on the PA forum rules – don’t be a dick. If you have any issues with anyone, please contact a guild officer.

Guilds are limited to 500 members, so occasionally we have to cull inactive members. If you find yourself removed, just ask for an invite again.

Teamspeak 3 Server

The guild has a Teamspeak 3 server, thanks to Draygo. Download TS at http://www.teamspeak.com. Even if you don’t have a mic, just listening will help greatly for coordination.
Server IP: 66.135.55.177:9999
Password: pa
Admins: Draygo, Enig, Geod, Teldra, Sage Persephone, Mojojoeo, Leandriell, Lagnar, Corrigan

The below spoiler contains the Penny Arcade Guild Wars 2 Teamspeak FAQ, written by Draygo for everyone's convenience. Please refer to it for any queries regarding the GW2 PA TS3 setup. Server seats 100+ people and everything you want to know about it can be found below or by asking Draygo, as he put it together and has been hosting these servers for years.
totallyawesomets2.png
Q) Where do I get it:

Download teamspeak here: http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads
You can get teamspeak for windows, mac, and linux. As well as your Ithing and your android, if you so prefer.

Q) Cool, I installed it, now what?

Now you must connect to our totally awesome server. In order to do that you must first run teamspeak. Then hit Connections at the top. Select Connect.

connections.png

Now you must enter the server details:

Server Address: 66.135.59.185:9999
Nickname: Your forum or In Game Name
Password: pa

server.png

Q) What does the banner in the top right do?

PAthread.jpg

The community thread banner when clicked on will open the most recent guild wars 2 thread on penny arcade.

Q) How do I add a class or race icon next to my name?

You do this by right clicking yourself, put your mouse over server group, then left click any of the categories named with the race or class you want to choose. You can uncheck them at any time to remove the icon.

Q) So is there a skin/theme for this?

totallyawesomets2.png

Yes and you can download it from our lobby. Right click the lobby, and select open file browser. You will see the installer file at the top. Download and run that file to skin your client.

filebrowser.png

In order to activate the theme/skin you need to go to settings->options, and click design on the left.

theme.png

Then select Theme and change it to PA Guild Wars 2.

Q) Who made the theme?

Draygo did.

Q) How do I change my name?

Right click yourself and select change nickname. You can do this at any time. Do not change your name to impersonate an admin.

Q) What rules can I expect?

Don't be a dick. No personal attacks except 'silly goose', forum rules apply. If it is not appropriate on the forums, it is also not appropriate in teamspeak.

Q) Someone is breaking the rules, or is being disruptive, but no server admins are online. How do I complain.

First, I hope you can all be nice and resolve disputes by yourselves. If someone is being a dick, you can fill out a complaint. Right click someone and click make a complaint. Do not abuse this feature. If 5 people complain about one person in a short amount time, that person will be temp banned from the server. Do not abuse this. Admins will see the complaints that lead to the temp banning and will be unhappy to fix it.

Q) Can I make my own channels?

Yes!
Teamspeak is setup that you can make your own channels in any of the major channels (Except Admin HQ, Lobby, and Afk, for obvious reasons) First enter the channel you want to make the sub-channel in. Right click the parent channel and select, create sub channel. You can enter a name, even a password, as well as set any description you want. After you create the channel, make sure the Audio Codec selected is high enough audio quality.

Right click the channel you created and click edit channel. Click the audio tab and increase the Quality slider. Also decrease the latency slider to reduce lag time. Quality 7, latency 1 are the recommended settings.
These channels are temp only, when the last person leaves them they are automatically cleaned up.

channel.png

channel2.png

The person who created the channel is the op of the channel and can kick people from the channel (not server). So if you created your own channel and want to remove someone, you can password protect it and remove the troublesome individual.

Q) Is there an overlay plugin?

Yes. There is a built in overlay plugin. To enable it, select settings then plugins. Check the teamspeak overlay plugin and then click settings on the bottom to configure it. Here you can configure any color of each of the elements, as well as transparency settings. I recommend you change the input settings to enable mouse polling, and change the initialization mode to minimal. Minimal mode only displays the one person who is talking, the other mode displays everyone in your channel even those that are talking.

Q) Does teamspeak work with my G15 keyboard.

Yes. There is a plugin for that. Pretty easy to configure again settings->plugins, and enable the G15 keyboard.

Q) I’m seeing graphical glitches when I use the overlay. How do I fix that?

Here's how to get the overlay working without graphical glitches:

1. Go to Settings->Plugins in TS3.
2. Select GW2.exe in the Profile dropdown.
3. Uncheck all the Direct3D options, except for Direct3D 9 (which is what GW2 uses).
4. Switch to Input tab
5. Check "Enable Mouse Poll" and "Use in-game" cursor
6. Switch to extended, and check "Used ID3DDevice:Present hook..." (This is what fixes the animations not showing in GW2)

Guild Schedule
Guild Google Calendar
The guild runs various activities together on a regular basis. A schedule can be seen below, and is also in the Guild Message of the Day (MOTD). All times are Pacific.

Guild Missions
Sunday 19:00 Server, 20:00 UK, Noon Pacific, 3pm Eastern
Guild Wars 2 has activities designed for large groups called Guild Missions. PvE Missions include Bounty, Trek, Puzzle, Challenge, and Race. There are also WvW Missions such as capturing objective and PvP Missions such as winning matches or points. Rewards for participation include commendations, rares, gold and chances at a precursor or other exotic items. At Sunday Missions, we’ll make one attempt at each PvE mission with WvW missions to follow. PvP missions require a coordinated group of 5, so if you have one let an officer know and we’ll kick one off for you. You can earn personal credit (rewards) for each mission once a week. Credit resets every week on Sunday night, so Monday starts a new week for guild missions.

Guild Competition Events
Occasionally, the guild will also host a guild competition for prizes. These events are scheduled by officers at various times, and have included jumping puzzle races, or scavenger hunts.

Guild Hall
[NICE] has a Guild Hall! You can get there by opening your guild interface and hitting the Guild Hall button in the upper right corner. You do not need to own HoT or be a certain level to go there. Our current home is in the Gilded Hollows, one of the two Guild Hall areas available in HoT.

Guild Hall amenities include:
  • Tavern Buffs - Free 24 hour buffs you can get from the bartender
  • Guild Portal - Free travel to Lion’s Arch and any of this week’s guild mission waypoints
  • Guild Arena - Battle your friends!
  • Guild Bank Access - by the central waypoint
  • Personal Bank Access - via the Scribing Station
  • Harvesting Nodes - Once a day gathering nodes that can sometimes drop rare materials needed to craft guild armor, located behind the Scribing Station

How Can I Help Build the Guild Hall?
The Guild Hall requires a lot of resources. Building and upgrading the guild hall is meant to be a massive, guild-wide effort and everyone’s contributions are both needed and appreciated. Every time we upgrade something or earn a new buff, it costs both guild currency (that we earn from guild missions and over time) and various crafting materials.

To see what we need right now, go to the Guild Hall and talk to the NPC by the waypoint to see the Guild Treasury. The Guild Treasury is NOT the same as the Guild Bank! It is a deposit-only store of materials that we have collectively contributed to the upgrades we’re working on for the guild. You can mouse over each item listed to see how many we need, how many we have, and what upgrades the materials are for. Materials needed range from potatoes to spiritwood planks, so anyone’s contributions can be useful. Especially hard to get items include: Potions of PvP Reward from PvP dailies, Ley-Line Infused Tools, and anything involving Flax or Linseed Oil.

What else can I do to help?
Attend guild missions and earn resonating slivers! You can only earn a few of these each week, and if you donate them our guild scribe (Teldra), it will help us unlock a lot of things for the guild hall.

[NICE] Guild Resources

Guild Tumblr Blog
We use this thread for most of our coordination, but we also have a Tumblr site that Vivixenne created to post guild information, builds, and other guides. http://gw2nice.tumblr.com/

Guild Bank
Vivixenne manages the guild bank, and has the following rules for using it. If you have used, intend to use, or think you may be interested in using it, please read this section by Vivixenne all the way through.
- WHY THE GUILD BANK EXISTS -

It is basically a guild storage for hard-to-find, useful items that people have generously donated to the Guild Bank instead of selling them. It is not a place for you to stick stuff (food) you’ve made but don’t want and can’t sell.

I cull stuff that is not meant to be there, keep the Bank tidy, and keep track of how often people withdraw as opposed to how often (and what) they deposit.

I don’t keep lists or databases. But if I check the log and see that you’ve withdrawn a lot of items and have not deposited anything within a few days after that, you may receive a message from me just as a friendly note that I HAVE MY EYE ON YOU.

- WHAT TO DEPOSIT -

Stuff that is appropriate to deposit are hard-to-find or useful items.
Hard-to-find is any piece of equipment that is
  • rare
  • exotic
  • legendary (if you are just MADE of money)

Useful is the following:
  • crafting materials
  • sigils (major+)
  • runes (major+)
  • potions (highest level potion only)
  • dyes
  • gold jewelry or better (for alts and just-turned 80s)

Please note that all Major Sigils or Major Runes will be stuck into the Mystic Forge to try to generate Superiors. We are no longer accepting Crests, Talismans, or Seals.
Useful is also any food containing the following buffs:
  • Gold Find
  • Magic Find
  • Karma Boost
  • Downed Health
  • Critical Chance or Damage

- WITHDRAWING -

You are free to withdraw from the free-access parts of the Guild Bank (Deep Cave, Treasure Trove).
Stash items are by request only, but you will generally be able to get whatever you request from the Stash. This is purely to prevent people joining the guild and grabbing a bunch of stuff and bailing - not likely to happen, but a possibility I would like to avoid.

To withdraw something from the Stash, you will have to go through me - via /g, /w, or in-game mail. If I am not online and you absolutely NEED that item RIGHT NOW and it can’t wait until the next time I log, you may approach another officer.

Exceptions will be high-cost Superior Runes or Sigils (anything that costs more than 2g in the Trading Post). These will not just be given because you ask - you must request to buy them from the Guild at a discount. The price fluctuates every day, so when you ask for such an item I will reply letting you know how much you need to send me before I will give it to you. You are free to decline the offer.

Also note that in order to prevent compromised accounts from raiding the guild bank, anyone who has been gone from the game for an extended period will have their status set to “Inactive”. If you find yourself set to Inactive and you would like to be set back to Comrade, just ask an officer.

- RULES AND PENALTIES -

If you fill the Bank with trash that I have to tidy up, you will lose access to the Bank for as long as I think is appropriate - usually scaled to how annoyed I am at you.
If you withdraw something, you HAVE to be doing so to use it yourself - not to sell or pass on to a friend that is not in the guild. If you are caught, you will lose access to the Bank. Maybe worse, like a kick from the guild. I haven’t decided because this hasn’t happened yet - it may go to a case-by-case in consultation with the other officers.

Guild Custom sPvP Server
The guild funds and runs a custom structured PvP server. The server is administered by Teldra and is named “[NICE] Persephone Exists, Nothing is Sacred.” The server is used for running sPvP nights, as well as tournaments and events. It is also available at other times for dueling and casual play. This is separate from the Arena in the Guild Hall, which is a more casual area that we can customize, while the Custom sPvP Server can be used to complete PvP dailies and is accessed via the PvP Lobby (the Heart of the Mists).

To enter the custom arena, bring up the PvP Browser interface, either by clicking the PvP icon in the upper-left-hand corner of your screen or by going to the Heart of the Mists and looking for the NPC marked PvP Browser (the same NPC you talk to for hot join games). In the PvP Browser interface, use the Search Owner/Name bar on the left and type in Teldra. Once you find the arena, right click to mark it as a favorite so you can find it again later more easily.

    FAQ

What should I salvage and what should I sell?
Salvage most white, blues, and greens. Blues and greens give you luck, which can be consumed to increase your account magic find. Generally don’t salvage leather items, since leather is worth very little. Salvage any rares above lvl 68 for ecto with a master/mystic salvage kit, except for high-value weapons like greatswords and staves. Sell exotics on the TP, unless the sigil/rune on them is worth a lot of money, in which case you’d use a black lion salvage kit to remove the upgrade and sell it.

    What is the Living Story??
The Living Story is the primary way in which GW2 does content updates between expansions. Season 1 was introduced prior to the advent of the Story Journal and is not currently playable, but Season 2 can be played via the Story Journal if you missed it. Season 2 was available for free if you logged in during each chapter’s introductory weeks, but if you missed it you can buy it in the gem store, and the cost will be prorated depending on how many chapters you are missing. They sometimes have sales, so be on the lookout for those. You can experience Season 2 Story for free if a friend who owns it takes you through, but you can’t get any of the achievement and rewards from the Story unless you purchase the content. However, the open world zones and events introduced alongside the Story are available to everyone for free!

In the future, you can make sure to get each new story chapter for free by logging in during the weeks following its introduction. Story chapters introduced after Heart of Thorns will probably require owning HoT in order to play, however.

What should I do after I get to level 80?
    • Earn Masteries
    • Participate in Raids, Fractals, and Dungeons
    • Get World Completion
    • Collect Wardrobe looks
    • Work on Collections that earn unique rewards
    • Earn Achievements
    • Do World Bosses and Map Meta Events
    • Craft a Legendary Weapon
    • Craft Ascended Equipment
    • Complete the Personal Story and Living Story
    • Compete in sPvP
    • Join WvW
    • Do Jumping Puzzles and other exploration
    • Make up your own goals - ie, get all dyes, get all minis
    • Create an alt
    • Have fun!

I see a lot of people in the guild with "Von Kraken" or "Copper" in their names. What's up with that?
We decided near launch of the game for some of our characters to be in the same "family." So Human Nobles will have their names with a von Kraken tag, like '<player name> Von Kraken.' Similarly, with Charr characters we've decided to form the Copper warband (cause copper, like in a penny. Get it?). Your Charr character can be named with Copper as the prefix or suffix of your name. For instance, 'Geod Copperstone' or 'Rysk Coppercrusher' or whatever you like. Feel free to join in with the naming fun if you'd like!

    How to Guild Hall!

Do you have questions about the Guild Hall? Wondering what to do with Tenebrous Crystals, or how you get Guild Armor, or where the bank access is? All that and more inside this handy guide!

How to Get to the Guild Hall
Our guild hall is the Gilded Hollows. If you wanted to access it from the world, you'd need to go to Tarir in Auric Basin. Luckily, there's a faster way: hit G to open your guild panel, and look for the button! You can use this button to get the guild hall from anywhere that isn't an instance. Inside the hall, you can hit this button again to go back to where you were!
    aOhCsPM.jpg

    Map and Overview
The Guild Hall has the following areas of interest: Main Entrance, Workshop, Arena, Tavern, Market, War Room, Stargate (Portal), Mine, and Exit. The map below shows where each one is located:
    2hHAHju.jpg

Main Entrance: Treasury, Repair, Vendor, Guild Bank Access
The Main Entrance of the Guild Hall features access to the Treasury. The Treasury is different from the Guild Vault (commonly known as the Guild Bank). The Guild Bank is a common inventory we can all access, and we use it as a place to give useful items to each other. The Treasury, on the other hand, is deposit-only: anyone can deposit, but there is no way to withdraw. The items are used ONLY for guild hall upgrades. No one can take them back out, not even officers. Only items we currently need can be deposited, and anyone can deposit them. They are consumed when upgrades occur.

You can make deposits in the Treasury at the Treasury NPC by the waypoint, or at any NPC who is a proprietor of a major area (like the Workshop or Tavern). There are two NPCs in the Main Entrance who you can use for this:
    vpozlD0.jpg

To see what we need, just look in the Treasury interface. Each item has a bar, green when full and red when not full. Mouse over the number underneath each item to get a tooltip that shows what each item is for and how many we need for each upgrade:
    7bW6j0w.jpg

To deposit into the Treasury, just have the items in your inventory when you talk to either the Treasury NPC or an NPC who is in charge of a major area (Tavern, Workshop, Mine, etc). Drag the items to the "+" button. You can contribute multiple items at once:
    e2qIyih.jpg

In addition to easy Treasury access, the Main Entrance also has a Repair Anvil:
    KzdslhR.jpg

    And a vendor:
    ydqo6E8.jpg

Next to the vendor is also an NPC who will let you access the Guild Bank (not the Treasury).

Workshop: Gathering Nodes (Tenebrous Crystals!), Scribing Stations (Bank Access!), Shard of Crystallized Resonance Turn-in
The Workshop is probably the part of the guild hall you will visit the most often. It has the gathering nodes, scribing station (which provide bank access like all crafting stations do), and is also the place to turn in the Shards of Crystallized Resonance that you'll occasionally get from guild missions instead of slivers.

First off, Gathering Nodes! You can gather from these once and day and you almost certainly want to. They are the ONLY source of Tenebrous Crystals (would be Shimmering Crystals if we had the other Guild Hall, the Lost Precipice). You need these crystals to craft the Guild Armor and the Tenebrous Weapons. Tenebrous Weapons can ONLY be made with Tenebrous Crystals, and Shimmering Weapons can only be made with Shimmering Crystals, while Guild Armor can be made with either. You will need 160 crystals of each type for a full weapon set and 90 of either crystal to unlock every armor skin, so remember to hit these up! :)

    xqRvRY4.jpg

    SqLjTGp.jpg

Another important feature of the Workshop is the Scribing Station, which lets you access your bank!
    DFMBSnM.jpg

You can also access a vendor by talking to the Scribing Trainer. Careful not to hit the wrong button! ;)
    w8v0K9t.jpg

Also, ever get a Shard of Crystallized Resonance from doing Guild Missions and wonder what to do with it? Bring it here! They let us build scribing stuff like banners faster.
    sZA4wkZ.jpg
    IxPxp0S.jpg

Tavern: Free Buffs and Custom Jumping Puzzle!
Now to the Tavern for free buffs and a custom jumping puzzle, made for you by your very own guild leader, Teldra!
    ShJkPmT.jpg

Talk to the Bartender (alas, not a Beartender) to get a free buff that last for 24 hours of in-game time:
    hn2CwMu.jpg
    WjDTDgp.jpg

Want to get up REALLY high in the guild hall and then glide to all sorts of places? Try the custom-made jumping puzzle! It starts here:
    8reXGj0.jpg
    And keeps going....
    5PqbjXm.jpg

Market: Guild Trader, Guild Armorer (Guild Armor Recipes!), Guild Weaponsmith (Tenebrous Weapon Recipes!), Guild Miniatures Merchant
The Market has all kinds of useful vendors, including the Guild Trader (who you can buy a limited number of items each day from for Guild Commendations, the Guild Armorer (who will sell you recipes for Guild Armor) and the Guild Weaponsmith (who will sell you Tenebrous Weapon Recipes, either very soon or right now, depending on when you're reading this!). It's also where you can buy Guild Miniatures and decorations for the guild hall.

The Guild Trader is on the side of the Market closest to the waypoint, and her inventory changes every day. There's multiple tabs, so check them all!

Further down are the Guild Weaponsmith and the Guild Armorer:

    Finally, the Guild Miniatures Merchant:
    E1TcU3i.jpg
    amAvi84.jpg

    Arena
    The Arena:
    dnIY9gR.jpg
Head inside and go up the stairs behind you. There's a waypoint and several NPCs:
    BiKXbKy.jpg
    LchqWAS.jpg
Talk to one to join a team and be put into the arena:
    jqjHVjw.jpg
    ujLKChg.jpg
You can leave the arena from here:
    yRPfg8i.jpg

    War Room
    The War Room:
    8eltQyc.jpg

Talk to this guy to buy Badges of Tribute, which we sometimes need for upgrades. It can be an easy way to get a daily done if it's WvW Big Spender day!
    zCeY47b.jpg
    4jtSpvv.jpg

    Stargate (Guild Portal)
Finally, the Guild Hall is home to our very own Stargate! It's a shiny portal that will take you to Lion's Arch or any of the Guild Puzzle or Race destinations for free!

    CURSES

Well, we are east coasters :( Put yourselves down as alternates then please, there may be a day or two.

    ~RELATEDLY~ Hi new thread

I'm making a Cool Casual Sleepy Time East Coast Time I Guess Raid Group For Cool Kids

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EgMzFRJ5QJWidddIbrs6jAOEK_CDPvkonmFWe0LvCH0/edit#gid=0&vpid=A1

Because it is me, and I am organizing, and I guess a @Geod is there, we have a hard cap that raids must end by 12:00 AM EST (9 PM PST) sorry.

With that said, we accept people who only have Exotic gear, because, reasons. I think that knowing your build and the raid is more important than having THE BEST GEAR EVRrrr.

If you have alts, feel free to put them in the overflow! The first few slots are for your preferred build / main character only. :3

Moved my guy to the overflow as well. I also have a mesmer (condi) and a necromancer (uh, power I guess) but the latter's only in yellows.

EDIT: @Feldorn Totally hear what you're saying about engineer rifle and condi, but seeing as that's the weapon I use all the time in PvE, I'm gonna make that first.

At least, that's what makes sense in my head. 'Coz there might be a Guild Wars 3 by the time I can even get Predator together.

Fair enough, just be aware that your ascended rifle will benefit you more with Zerk or Assassin stats than it would with Rabid or Sinister.

EDIT: Feldorn Totally hear what you're saying about engineer rifle and condi, but seeing as that's the weapon I use all the time in PvE, I'm gonna make that first.

At least, that's what makes sense in my head. 'Coz there might be a Guild Wars 3 by the time I can even get Predator together.

Fair enough, just be aware that your ascended rifle will benefit you more with Zerk or Assassin stats than it would with Rabid or Sinister.

I guess I'm confused. Why wouldn't Viper benefit me if I use kits 99% of the time?

Apparently the wuv design lead has moved on.

It's because you DO use your actual weapon in a Condi Engineer build if you're using pistol. Pistol #4 has HUGE DPS if you use it at point blank -- 3 stacks of Burning, plus more if you're rocking Incendiary Powder. Plus, you can rack up Confusion, Blind, Poison, and Bleeding stupid fast. I actually spend more time in Pistol than I do my kits...

Actually, I've been meaning to do this for a while, so...

Lucid Seraph's Easy-Peasy No Bullshit Condi Engineer DPS Rotation Guide (Plus Some Other Tips)

(I'll make a shiny version with pix later)
Holy shit, you say. That's so many buttons to push! I am very confused and frightened by my Condi Engineer DPS rotation! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

FEAR NOT. IS ACTUALLY FAR SIMPLER THAN IT LOOKS. In truth you are rotating only between 5 skills. The rest is gravy.

    1. Incendiary Ammo (Toolbelt)
    2. Napalm (Flamethrower 4)
    3. Fire Bomb (Bomb 2)
    4. Blowtorch (Pistol 4)
    5. Shrapnel Grenade (Grenade 2)

That's it. Essentially, the same number of buttons as anyone else's rotation, just split across 3 kits, your toolbelt, and your offhand weapon. Also, the order I've posted there isn't 100% necessary: I usually open with Incendiary and Blowtorch, then Napalm, then Fire Bomb, for instance, because I like fire. It's more that those 5 skills are your "money" skills.

The so-called "complexity" comes because all those skills have a slightly longer cooldown than it takes to immediately start the rotation again, so you have to fill in the gaps before you start your burst rotation a second time. This is basically you just slamming a bunch of buttons depending on the situation.

SITUATION 1: I NEED A LOT OF CONDITION DAMAGE, OR HEALING SHUT-DOWN, AND FOR SOME REASON I DON'T WANT TO BREAK A BOSS' BREAK BAR.

Fill out with Pistol #1 & 2, Grenade 5, Bomb 3, and Mortar 2 until everything else is off cooldown.

SITUATION 2: I JUST NEED FUCKTONS OF DAMAGE

The same as Situation 1, but try to start with:

Grenade Barrage, Orbital Strike, and Flame Blast (Flamethrower 2)

Honestly, by this point your money stuff should be on cooldown anyway, so don't worry about it.

SITUATION 3: WE NEED TO BREAK THIS BOSS' BREAK BAR, AND EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS

This is a bit more complicated. 90% of your stuff does damage over time to the breakbar. You only have two sources of big damage to the break bar are Big Ol' Bomb and Air Blast (flamethrower #3). You won't be doing Tarir South with this build, but for a raid boss do not underestimate the value of just a few more bits of damage to that bar.

With that said, you do have a LOT of resources for DoT on the breakbar. In order of how useful/powerful...

    Immobilize & Cripple: Pistol #5 & Bomb #5
Chill: Mortar #3 and Grenade #4
    Blind: Grenade #3, Mortar #4, Bomb #4, Flamethrower #5, Pistol #3

SITUATION 4: OH GOD I NEED HEALS & CONDI CLEANSE

For condi, you are shit out of luck. I really hope you have a druid, guardian, mesmer, or necromancer buddy with those traits. You can drop your Healing Turret, overcharge it, and pick it up again, but, uh, yeah.

Heals are easier. Set Big Ol Bomb and Orbital Strike, then put down your Healing Turret, overcharge it. If that's not enough, blow up the healing turret. If your turret is on cooldown but you still have blast finishers, you can do the same sequence with Mortar #5. If you're REALLY GOOD at timing you might be able to pull it off with your Turret toolbelt skill, but I'm bad at that. In a pinch, Mortar #5 does a little bit of healing on its own.

IN THE END: ALL THIS SHIT I JUST SAID IS GRAVY ON TOP OF THAT INITIAL ROTATION OF 5 SKILLS. Those 5 skills are the only thing you should really be worrying about in any situation. I HOPE THIS WAS INFORMATIVE, AND STUFF.

    Sharkey, is that a pug? are you not coming with me in my raid ;-;

The only weapon skill from pistols that I wish I had is Blowtorch, on my Rifle Engi. The evade from Rifle 5 is a huge amount of mobility. The Net (Rifle 2) + Knockdown (Rifle 4) is great for breakbars (which means you are a one-person Breakbar crusher with Big Ol' Bomb and Air Blast), and I can be the single source of knockdown in Tarir South, apparently (or, at least, this often FEELS that way in PUGs. :-P ).

Pistols are better for a source of Condi damage, don't get me wrong. But for me, I just can't give up that Rifle 5 movement skill. I need that extra bit of mobility for positioning and rapid deployment.

I often also go into combat with Rocket Boots instead of another kit because of this. The toolbelt kick is hilarious and does a shit-ton of burning damage on a 17 second cooldown. Rocket Boots also gives one more source of burst healing with the F1 toolbelt skill from Healing Turret or Healing Turret overcharge (set up a water field, then immediately Rocket Boots boost your way out of it for a free heal). The timing for the F1 -> Rocket Boots is easy, and adding Rocket Boots to the BOB/Orbital Strike/Turret/Overcharge/Detonate string is pretty simple, too, for a bigger heal.

Devon started us on this path of "over design" as he brought in borderland runes with their giant verticallity and twisty paths. WVW xp progression system which is pretty okay. Edge of the mists who's merits are debatable. the free transfers prior to the season 1 which caused massive stacking. Obviously this is spread over 3 years as its wvw so.... sparse updates at best?

but I don't think it would matter if he were there or not. Anet corporate's "dont ever talk about upcoming stuff or interact with the payer base ever" policy makes it hard to tell whats going on.

Devon's comments make it sound like he was handcuffed a bit in the position and he very very much does NOT want to piss off anet (being professionally courteous to their ways and internal stuff). I mean that just good life policy to not bad mouth old employer.

not a whole lot to take away from that.

@Hahnsoo1 that's totally fine in open world, even in HoT zones. It's not good for a raid (if you're planning to do it).

I think all of the weapons engineer had are good. The issue is that rifle won't add significant damage to a Condi build over grenades 1, pistol 4 is one of the top damaging skills for the build.

Colin on reddit in a thread having nothing to do with wvw
As an engineer main, this remains one of those things I'd love to see addressed...But the reality is we need the bulk of our own internal engineers (coders!) to continue to focus on stuff like our major WvW overhaul right now we've been working on for over a year that's much higher priority for the game over-all.
This remains on the someday that'd sure be awesome list. :)

its kind of insulting that a game mode dependent on a playerbase to even function- that player base it is not being directly spoken to or at the very least informed. this response was in a thread about engineer legendary effects. Is that not disdain for your player base? We have not had a dev comment in the wvw forums in weeks minus 1 ui dev commenting 1 time.

By the time this occurs- will anyone be left?

Worth noting, the guide they mention for condi engis is totally bonkers for raids. If you don't have the boss memorized it's squish city to try to follow it. Good rule of thumb is to just focus on the skills per bar that give you burning and wing it from there. Or, in other words, flamethrower on 7, bomb on 8, grenade on 9, and F2-7-2-3-8-2-3-9-2-3-pistol-2-3-4 repeat, With bombs as lowest priority as you swap through again. Be ready to swap to pistol at any point cuz for all intents and purposes, you're ranged DPS and have to hit those ranged circles too.

Well, which is why I posted my own guide up there. To be honest you could condense the entire Condi Engineer rotation down to one sentence: "Use whatever has burning."

If you want to be a little more complicated, "Use bleeding and poison when burning is on cooldown. Then go back to setting shit on fire a lot."

The thing is, Pistol 4 happens to be a really damn good source of Burning. /shrug Which I find way, way, way more useful than anything Rifle has, at least for raids. Now, with that said? Rifle is my ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE for running Tarir... but Tarir is a totally different build. And in the open world and in PVP, I prefer Hammer. Again, the deal with raids, at least right now, is that you need specific stuff, and right now, Engineers are The Very Bestest at Condi.

also, to be honest, I have considered swapping Grenades for Rocket Boots, both for that extra Blast finisher and the Burning kick. And the mobility. Bombs stays because Fire Bomb.

Hm. Is the raid really that gear/skill intensive?

I might withdraw my interest in trying it if that is the case. I'm not that serious a player, and I'm sure others much better than me would be in a better position to make these attempts.

Blah, caught me between edits :p

The tough thing with bombs is being in melee for long enough for them to trigger. It's fine for phase 1, 2 and 4, but 3 and 5 the boss is almost always moving, or you're moving to cover green circles.

Or your group is cheesing the stun bar. Which we totes didn't do for that kill by the way :D

Yeah, you guys are really coming on strong for a 17s cooldown pistol attack. It's good, but not THAT good. It can be ignored in the rotation and your DPS hit would be less than difference between Ascended Armor and Exotic Armor.

My impression is that the raids are VERY skill intensive, and moderately gear intensive. By moderately, I mean you could get away with Rampager's or Carrion, but your Condi DPS needs full primary-stat condi gear, your regular DPS needs full primary-stat power gear (so, a mix of Soldier's and Berserkers would probably be fine). You also don't need Engineers as your primary condi people, but Engineers really are the best at it, and like most things Engineers are good at, we have a pretty narrow set of skills we have to use to BE good at it (because we can sorta kinda do everything in the game a little bit). As an Engineer, you do not have a weapon swap, so you really DO need to be running dual pistols if you're doing Condi DPS.

That said, depending on your gear, an Engineer could effectively fill any role in a raid, I think. You could be a Power Rifle or Power Hammer engineer in Berserker for regular power-based DPS; you could be a Healing engineer rocking Healing Turret, Elixir Gun, Crate Drop, Pistol/Shield, & I suppose some Elixirs or some such (though a Druid in this case WILL be better at you than this); you could be a Hammer or Pistol/Shield Engineer in Knight's / other Toughness gear with Tool Kit, Elixirs, and probably Elixir X made to just stand around and fail to die... you could probably have a whole team of Engineers and do this raid. But you do need to pick a role you want to play and dedicate yourself to it; you need to go for the appropriate gear (be it Exotic or Ascended), use the appropriate weapons and skills, and be willing to make sacrifices.

If that's not for you, maybe raids aren't for you. For me, I enjoy the challenge of coming up with a precise build for the precise situation; that's the whole reason I love playing Engineer. But it's not for everybody.

Would like to join your raid but I am EU time sadly :(

I am considering setting up a similar relaxed raid group for EU times.

Yeah, you guys are really coming on strong for a 17s cooldown pistol attack. It's good, but not THAT good. It can be ignored in the rotation and your DPS hit would be less than difference between Ascended Armor and Exotic Armor.

Fully Condi geared and spec that can be 15 second duration burns and do 20k+ damage, so, I don't think we're overstating it in this case. Like I said, it's one of the highest damage skills for condition engineer.

Blowtorch is literally the strongest skill Engineer has.

The reason is that the +50% condition duration Pistol trait stacks with your character sheet condition duration, for 150% duration total on pistol skills. Its ridiculous.

Replacing a Grenade auto (5300 damage) with a Blowtorch (37900 damage) is 32.9k damage. That is a lot of dps on that 15s cd.

Hm. Is the raid really that gear/skill intensive?

I might withdraw my interest in trying it if that is the case. I'm not that serious a player, and I'm sure others much better than me would be in a better position to make these attempts.

My impression is that the raids are VERY skill intensive, and moderately gear intensive. Please don't misunderstand. I love my Engineer. I do like the flexibility even though I normally don't make much use of it. (I love Flamethrower. Sue me.) I did Triple Trouble in an EVOS group last night and went dual pistol (rares only) to do condi, though.

However, my point still stands. I'm more of a casual player. The raid sounds like it's well above my playgrade, so I'll leave that up to the rest of you. :)

You are so misguided - You didn't even mention the caste system of raiders based solely on the new GW2 GearScore mod.

I bet you aren't even over 10k gearscore units..... you newb.
