There was a time, way back when McDonald's was still relatively new, that they served a grilled pineapple slice with cheese as a vegetarian sandwich. It didn't last long.

I believe the pineapple sandwich was the original plan, but a franchise owner came up with the fish sandwich so they decided to see which sold better and fish won.

There's a rotisserie chicken fast food place in Australia called Red Rooster that I miss dearly
they have a thing called the Tropical Pack which is a piece of chicken, some fries and a fried pineapple ring and fried banana.
Although I always got a strip sub. Two tenders with lettuce and herb mayo on a french roll. God damn I miss strip subs.
To be fair I resurrected an oldish thread because Whippy had already made one and I needed forum validation for a decision to get a McRib which I had already made.
I wonder what female versions of those names would be....

They ended up developing the fillet o' fish out of that need.
