The pilots can have a snackable before deploying

So with the carrier, what are the benefits of having fighters docked?

The docked fighters cannot be attacked, can choose any suitable maneuver when deployed and they can attack on the same turn they are deployed. With title they can come out with PS8 or another title lets you deploy all 4 at once.

They also deploy from the front OR rear of the cruiser

Well it doesn't matter cause one of the tie fighters that came with it is already broke.

The thing on the bottom of it that connects it to the post broke off.

    Pretty pissed off.

    Oof. That's no good.

I have to glue on one of the engines for my tantive since it broke out of the plastic, but it's not meant to attach to other ships/bases.

I would email FFG if I were you and see if they have a solution.

Yeah, FFG usually replaces broken stuff.

That or super glue. I'm got quite a bit of super glue holding various ships together. In the TIE FIghters case it probably makes them more durable than Palpatine had them built.

  • AegeriAegeri Plateau of LengRegistered User regular
It's easy to call FFG and get broken components replaced. They are extremely good like that. You can then break up the damaged tie, get some expoxy to put in the debris template and make nice 3D debris.

Yeah, my poor Lamba had the same problem. It's in need of some glue, but I'm kinda let it go as I'm going to repaint the sucker anyhow.

  • LockedOnTargetLockedOnTarget Registered User regular
I'll probably try to exchange it at the store, first, cause I don't wanna wait weeks for a replacement and my friends are interested in doing an epic game this weekend.

Also holy shit, the TIE pilot cards and the upgrade cards that come with the carrier seem really cool.

If you don't want to wait, it's a super easy fix.
Just takes a few minutes hand-spinning a small drill bit.

  • admanbadmanb the bored genie Seattle, WARegistered User regular
You don't even need a drill. Just clip off the end of a spare peg and glue it to the model.

  • LockedOnTargetLockedOnTarget Registered User regular
    Yeah that's unacceptable to me.

If it was something I had for a while maybe but broken out of the box? I want my new toy to feel like a new toy for a while. As a collector, glued stuff bugs the hell out of me.

I mean, it's all glued together out of the box.
I've become pretty inured to the occasional need for minor repairs. Often the repair results in something nicer than the original, e.g. magnet mods.
Anyway war is hell. Wings get shot off, cannons misfire and explode.
    Whatever. :-P

I've been considering it ever since that fateful night when @DaMoonRulz witnessed my E-Wing getting sabotaged. Peg broke in the female end on the ship. If I had a scribe and tiny drill bit I'd have it out by now.

What's up with all the giant carriers and $70 ships

It's another mode of play. You play with 200+ points for what's called "Epic". And they come with a handful of upgrades that are all tournament legal. Some come with other ships.

Tantive IV expansion comes with the ship, a bunch of upgrades for Huge ships. It also comes with cards like C-3PO, Leia, and R2-D2 crew cards.

Rebel Transport comes with an X-wing (with alt paint scheme), with unique pilots like Porkins and a handful others.

Imperial raider comes with a blue TIE Advance (+unique pilots), with a title that allows the Advance to equip a Systems upgrade for 4 less points. It's referred to as the TIE Advance "fix".

The Imperial Carrier comes with 2 blue TIE fighters and a handful of (unique) pilots.

the Inquisitor is gonna be a pretty spooky arc dodger, he'll just always be able to stay at range one of anything and dodge that TLT

Noteworthy that Sienar Test Pilot, /V1 title, Guidance Chip, Proton Rocket comes out to 20 points. Gives you a pretty healthy action economy and fantastic offensive/defensive options for something so cheap.

Look at the card for The Inquisitor:

When attacking with your primary weapon at Range 2-3, treat the range of the attack as Range 1.

So basically, you'll be shooting 3 damage. I guess that means that Range 3 ships won't get their defense bonus for being Range 3 also.

    crimsoncoyoteFuselageShortyMegaMekElvenshae
  • DaMoonRulzDaMoonRulz Mare ImbriumRegistered User regular
This suits The Inquisitor well, as he wants to keep his enemies within his sights. It does not matter if his target is at range "1" or range "3;" so long as he is firing with his ship's primary weapon, you treat the attack as though it were made at range "1," meaning that you add an extra die and your opponent does not gain an extra defense die for range, even at range "3."

Gotta say, that's a pretty sick as ship. The Inquisitor is crazy good for his ability. I like that the ship is fragile to compensate.

So, I'm kinda bored before new years. I'm gonna chat about the K-Wing.

http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/378709/explosions This was the build I ran for the match I'm gonna be chatting about when referencing why I adore these things but realistically I think you'd be better with something like: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/view/373875/explosions-mk2 Just because having more control, a blocker and an extra gun are probably worth giving up missiles that are clumbersome to use and a TLT that doesn't fire regularly.

Ultimately I think K-wings are my favourite ship to fly in X-wing right now. They've got a unique role of being the worlds fattest arc dodgers, which is a weird thing to say about a ship sporting 9HP, a turret and a max move speed of 3. However thanks to the SLAM action, currently unique to them, they have some of the hardest to pin down aces in the game. A K-wing can rocket forwards an astonishing 6 speed in a turn, it can do a full 180 without taking stress, it can go forwards four while also shifting itself about four distance to the left or right, all with the only downside being the inability to shoot.

As a result of that downside I feel like most K-Wing builds that focus on torpedos and missiles is a waste. Instead good builds are ones with advanced SLAM and bombs, lots and lots of bombs. The K-Wing can bomb like a champ, whether it's because it can easily move just behind that TIE swarm that's already moved to get a more traditional bomb ready for next turn or using one of the new ACTION bombs in the K-Wing and Punisher to create an exact dumping of death onto a specific target you don't like (hi Phantoms) the fact that the K-Wing can still be doing damage while arc dodging so hard that Soontir's crying softly in the corner is what turns them into champions.

The general play style for a K-Wing is to wait it out, in the early game if given a choice between getting a TLT shot off at something or just SLAMing so no one shoots you want to pick the later. You're more unpredictable and maneuverable than a large chunk of the games ships so, unless they have turrets too, you can happily waste time and wait for golden opportunities to take shots. Plus, while you're playing slow you can still drop seismic that chip away at whole fleets, dump clusters onto MVP's and 1-shot them and be handing out focus tokens with Tuketu. Then come late game they have whatever dumb fragile closer left and you have your K-Wings. The following scene is aptly described as a terrier trying to tackle a car. Brief and painful for only one side.

Speaking of Aces lets chat about how fucking rad Tuketu is. Everyone's busy chatting up using Miranda Doni as an undying god and that's all well and good but Tuketu is quietly just sitting there being a bargin for any action strained squad.

A really simple build with him is:

Tuketu, Recon Specialist, Ion Bomb, advanced SLAM (35)

Congratulations, for a 3rd or so of your points cost you've got something as tough as a B-wing that's turreted, can get the hell out of dodge real fast and, thanks to an ion bomb and his pilot ability, doesn't much care if he has to SLAM to avoid danger. The rest of your squad can be pretty much any semi decent jousters and you'll be doing okay on basically +1 focus every turn wherever you need it. Tuketu is honestly probably the better ace of the two. Just because his ability synergises better with SLAM than Miranda.

Miranda's still great though. Just do this:

Miranda Doni + TLT (35) and you have a ship that's going to be a massive pain to kill if you're flying it half way right while doing respectable damage. Naturally add bombs and advanced SLAM as the points require.

Honestly the K-Wing is great, it's a brick wall that's as nimble as some of the games most popular arc-dodgers while having the potential for great survivability, support or bombing runs based on how you build it. It's only downside is the lack of EPT's and the fact that it's generics suffer from costing quite a bit when the low PS makes SLAM significantly less usable.

Either way I hope the rambling was enjoyable and you all SLAM as the Rebellion intended.

EDIT: Per example, lets play chase the K-Wing: http://i.imgur.com/ToBFQCv.jpg

I'm still getting used to the economy of this sort of thing, I am incredibly new to any kind of tabletop game

Is that kinda par for the course with these expansions?

That seems both good and bad

Cause while I'm amassing a collection of ships I want, I'm getting new stuff for the ships I already have and just overall expanding the game, instead of just bolting a new piece onto it

It seems like my attitude on it would turn once I buy stuff solely for the upgrade cards and pilots

I would very much like to play as Porkins, but maaaan would I be miffed about having to get a $40 transport to do it

cards are typically useful beyond whatever ship they initially come with, yeah (some more than others). Guidance Chip is a modification upgrade, which means any ship can take it - these are more applicable to everybody and there's not too many of them as a result.

that being said, there's like three modification cards devoted to trying to make torpedoes/missiles more appealing now, so you can probably skip this one if you want.

It also shows up in one of the upcoming scum ships so that's another option if you want the card but don't care about this ship in particular.

As someone who just started buying X-Wing ships, and did it all online since the only local shops that sell it do so at full MSRP: shop around online. Amazon does occasionally have the best prices on some ships. Usually though CoolStuffInc will have better prices. Miniatures Market may as well. I ended up doing most of my buying through CSI, with just a few ships from Amazon. It looks like most future purchases will be through CSI as well, but I'll check at least those 3 sites whenever I do plan to pick something up.
