    "Contact! I make it 6 eyeballs. Banthas, take this one cautiously in case they've got reinforcements nearby. Shoot straight and may the Force be with you!"

    Straight ahead 1, TL if something is miraculously in range, but Focus otherwise.

    @Fuselage

    Not yet on the turn - let's give them a bit more time to mix up with the asteroids.

    Since you've got BTL, you should try and hang back a bit - next turn we'll accelerate into out turns and you can take a slower move.

    We'll do a 3 straight and focus. That should be just out of range of the lower TIEs.

    Straight 1 and focus. In formation and ready to roll.

    @DaMoonRulz

    Question sir! How do all of the Ghosts fit in Grunt's cockpit?

    We are Ghosts. We don't hold a physical form and control everything with psychic powers the Force.

  • Grunt's GhostsGrunt's Ghosts Registered User regular
    Also, I'll mirror the other X-wing and do 3 forward and focus.

    I'd better hear you rascals verbalize that you've locked S-Foils in attack position.

    Bantha Squadron moves in to engage the TIES. Your astromechs are unable to acquire a targeting solution, so you steel your focus for the coming furball.

    The TIEs continue their advance toward you, closing the distance with a howl.

    There's an official Star Wars soundboard on their website and I wanted to make battle noises to accompany the posts, but it wasn't working that way so bleh.
    Anyways, it wouldn't be Star Wars without the appropriate music:

    I'm thinking a 3 Bank to the right, followed by a focus and engage the TIE next to the right hand asteroid (B1? I can't make out the IDs) at point blank range. That may or may not get me out of arc of the forward left TIE, it's hard to judge on screen. A lot may depend on where @Grunt's Ghosts ends up going. I assume 3 Y-Wings can handle the 2 left most TIEs.

    I added a big title for the TIEs, hopefully it'll help in the next screenshot. This is Round 2 activation phase. To give a slightly better idea of distance, the AI will focus if they have a shot

    @Elvenshae @Albino Bunny do you want me to do a Straight 1 or a Bank Right 1 next? Don't want to hose you, and you're the stars of my show.

    @Fuselage @Albino Bunny
    Where we are, we either all need to do the same bank at the same time (Albino can do a slower bank, Fuselage can do a faster bank) or Albino and I can bank in while Fuselage runs forward somewhat quickly (otherwise, Albino will run into him).

    So, I think our options are ...

    Fuselage does a 1 forward, then Bunny will bank into him regardless.
    Fuselage does a 2 forward, then Bunny can do a 1 bank and maaaaaaaaaaaaybe a 2 (probably not?) and a 3 will collide.
    Fuselage does a 3 forward, then Bunny can do a 1 or 2 bank and ... I think a 3, as well; not sure.

    Well it seems like the best thing for me to do is to stay out of your way and take out that TIE straight ahead. Then I can swing around and mop up your targets or the far flank that'll be trying to lay the hurt on our X-Wing escorts. Plus, Fork Morkins is a mix between Volstagg and Jayne Cobb so he needs to go destroy the enemy.

    As regularly happens in the heat of battle Bantha Three charges forward (Straight 3; Focus) at the lone TIE Fighter, thirsty for conflict and the praise it will bring back in the hangar.

    I'll go two forward and focus. That should be enough room for Chrysis to make his move and put me within range 2 of the B2 and Range 2-3 of the TIE beyond that. Then we can both either concentrate on that front TIE or kill him and damage the one beyond it.

  • ChrysisChrysis Registered User regular
    Sounds good to me. We should definitely focus on killing the TIES so focus fire is good .

    Bank right 3, pick up a TL on ... I think Aleph 2?, the second TIE from the left, and prepare to fire with the ion turret if I'm in range and the main guns if I'm not.

    Unless I'm mistaken the TIEs are all PS1 and we're all PS2, so we should be shooting first.

    EDIT: Just double checked, and that's right. TIEs are all Academy Pilots as per pg 34 and player pilots start at PS2 as per pg 09.

    Oh, OK. Thought I saw something about PS2 but thought that was through buying the PS upgrade. Lemme go back real quick and redo that.

    Yay! We, like Han Solo, get to shoot first!

    EDIT:

    I figured, per the pictures, that we were all PS1, and since the TIEs had initiative, they'd move first and shoot first, so it looked completely consistent to me. Forgot to check the rulebook re: starting PS. :D

    Round 2 - Combat (BS First)
    Arrol's R2 unit pipes up with a whistle to confirm that a targeting lock has been acquired on the nearest TIE fighter A3. At Range 3, the Ion Cannon can't lock on, so @Elvenshae fires his main lasers instead, which pass harmlessly by. (EVADED)
    Ori's targeting computer just manages to get a bead on TIE A1. It was always going to be a long shot, but surprisingly @Albino Bunny's aim is enough cause A1 to evade. (A1 spends Evade token)
    @Fuselage is sad to discover that at Range 3, the best he can do is only firing his main lasers and not his turret. TIE A1 dodges the shot with perhaps excessive flourish. (EVADED HANDILY)
    Meanwhile, the X-Wings fly right into the jaws of the beast, @Chrysis letting four scarlet bolts fly at B5. Even at Range 1, the TIE was able to juke his way through the attack without a scratch (EVADED). @Grunt's Ghosts flying perfectly as a wingman, followed up Bantha Four's attack with his own barrage of deadly laser fire, that had it not been for B5's pilot focusing intently, would have left the starfighter a rapidly expanding cloud of shrapnel, instead of the sputtering, atmosphere venting mess that struggled to maintain hull integrity it was now (GG Focus for 4 hits. B5 Focus for 2 evade. -2 Hull)

    Round 2 - Combat (Imp 2nd)
    A1 fires back at @Fuselage but the excessive celebration leads his shots astray, and gives him a 15 yard penalty on the ensuing kickoff! (NO HITS)
    A2 sets his sights on @Chrysis but the stealth device installed gives Chrysis the edge he needs to get away without harm (EVADED)
    A3 attempts to hit @Elvenshae's lumbering Y-Wing but it proves surprisingly agile (EVADED)
    B4 fires through an asteroid at the elusive @Chrysis and disbelievingly he has to focus to avoid the incoming fire! (@Chrysis uses Focus to evade 2 damage)
    B5 coughs and sputters out an attack on the rapidly closing @Chrysis but the previous attack gets his head back in the fight and he is unharmed! (HANDILY EVADED)
    B6 focuses on @Grunt's Ghosts who's too distracted by his near-One Hit Kill on B5 (HIT -1 Shield)

    10259785_10207286914704018_2042510746750089689_n.jpg?oh=16a22b3256aa01c83d7616e30a84f01c&oe=5713D199

    ROUND 2 IS OVER! TO THE DIALS!
    Maneuvers must be SET before activation begins. Post your intended move in the thread with SET afterwards and that is your designated move, no takebacks

    The Rebels survive the initial clash with only the loss of one of @Grunt's Ghosts shields, while he has nearly destroyed one of the TIE fighters single-handedly. Your astromechs pipe up, alerting you that Comm chatter seems to indicate enemy reinforcements will be arriving soon.

    Stealth device supremacy!

    I'm thinking a 4K will clear the asteroid, but would like a second opinion before comitting. The only other options are left banks which take me out of the fight for a turn or 2.

    Tri-Optimum reminds you that there are only one-hundred-sixty-three shopping days until Christmas. Just 1 extra work cycle twice a week will give you the spending money you need to make this holiday a very special one.

    "Enemy reinforcement inbound; let's vape as many of these eyeballs as we can before their friends get here."

    Planning on a 3-ahead, and will likely focus to set up an "overwhelming" shot on the Aleph-3 TIE.

    We might want to get some separation, Bunny, so that our bombs (if dropped) don't hit each other. Fratricide is bad, mmkay? ;)

  • ElvenshaeElvenshae Registered User regular
    @Chrysis

    4K should clear the asteroid, but it would require that TIE B4 not end up in your landing zone, which would back you up and possibly run you into the asteroid, anyway.

    Since they're going to move first, your other option might be a slow left-bank or a slow-ahead, hoping that B5 takes a short move forward instead of a K-Turn, allowing you to run into it and keep it in front of you (but unable to shoot you), which should open up a shot on B4 or B6. Either way, you lose the action (either from the red K-Turn or the collision).

    @DaMoonRulz - I think I know the answer, but are we allowed to look at the AI cards for the TIEs? I think that's cheating, and I haven't done so yet, but I want to make sure.

  • DaMoonRulzDaMoonRulz Mare ImbriumRegistered User regular
    Also, if some of the combat reactions sound janky it's because I'm writing them as I'm rolling them

    3basnids3lf9.jpg

  • DaMoonRulzDaMoonRulz Mare ImbriumRegistered User regular
    @Elvenshae I don't care if you look. The maneuver they WILL make is randomized out of a selection of maneuvers, all of which are pretty basic. If enemy is ahead, go straight, if to the right go right, etc

    3basnids3lf9.jpg

  • ElvenshaeElvenshae Registered User regular
    In that case, @Chrysis, it looks like the TIE pilot is likely to stick to a 2-speed maneuver. Smaller chance he elects a 4K, which you can't do anything about anyway.

    2-ahead or 2-left bank runs him into you; 2-right bank puts him in a good spot to either be shot at by me or by @Grunt's Ghosts , depending on his moves and A3's moves.
