Suggestion about NSFW marking.

Perhaps Alphamonkey could at some point implement something like this:

When you make a post, there is an option to mark it as NSFW. This is for posting things that people seem to like to post. In our control panel, there would be a little checkbox or set of radio buttons asking if we wanted to display NSFW posts, and if we did want them displayed, if we wanted threads with NSFW posts inside marked. When it is marked, it has a [NSFW] to the left of it, much like [Poll].

Could be very useful for people at work and such.

Alternatively, you could also put it on images and URLs, I guess.

What do you guys think? I just thought this up and thought it would be a neat feature.

Would it really be used that much? Just writing **NSFW** seems to work well enough. Besides, shouldn't you be working at work?

I don't see the advantage over the current system. It still relies on people marking the topics. And I don't believe having the topic displayed is a problem for people at work, as long as the topics are marked.

It wouldn't work. Your settings are appended to your account, not your browser, so if you have NSFW topics blocked for work, you'd have to change your settings to see them at home.

there is nothing to turn stuff on and off. it's silly and would put uneccesary strain on alpha

why do people ask for things that they could just do themselves. How often do people find themselves in situations where they accidentally click on a thread marked nsfw?

Its a good idea, but the problem is it ends up relying on the user to mark it, the same as the current system. So, yeah. I think Im going to have to give this one a :v:

It's not really that useful, considering a person that isn't considerate enough to type four letters probably isn't going to click a button.

you could make it so mods could easily mark it NSFW if the topic poster doesn't. it still wouldn't be that useful, since you could just simply not click on an NSFW thread instead of it not being displayed

Can't mods already do that? ie, change the title of the thread?

How many people really get sacked for looking at NSFW threads anyway?

I mean, not browsing the forum at all is a no brainer when your boss is walking by - if he walks by and sees you wasting time in a thread about Star Wars then he's just as likely to discipline you as if it is a thread about the JBA - so it should go without question that if you are browsing the forums at work and accidentally stumble into a thread with titties in it you back-browse out of there if it's going to get you in trouble.

Marking threads Not Suitbale For Children might be more sensible as, with a diverse age group visiting these forums, PA is more likely to get in trouble from censorship evangelists than anything else.

I don't browse the forums at work, but I do look at slashdot / BBC / CNet etc. My boss doesn't mind.

If scantily clad ladies showed up, I think there would be a problem.

You guys need to get new jobs. Ones which are low-paid and hard work but so long as you get your job done you know you can browse Penny Arcade and TeenSlutsAreUs in between tasks because you know where your boss keeps his porn.
