    *Lightning Strike* Its alive!!!

So I rented this last night. Went american as I love driving RWD in racing sims, more specifically the Viper. I loves me some Viper.

Anyways, I completed the first set of three races before I had to turn it off, but if anyone feels like racing with someone without any experience (But that doesn't mean I'm horrible) send me an invite to a race. I'd love to get some multi racing going. I need a break from halo 3.

There are weekly races at 360Arcadians, although the interest in them has declined significantly since Halo 3's release. And it doesn't look like there's a race set up for this week.

I stopped trying to complete the game after I realized that the faster cars got longer tracks and more laps.

Still a great game. Just not for all attention spans or Part Time Gamers. :)

The game desperately needs more track. I heard they were trying to license La Sarthe (Le Mans) so you can have epic Audi v. Peugeot diesel wars. Road America is also badly needed, and the Alpine Ring track from Forza 1 is also sorely missed.

I've also noticed a LOT of graphical glitches while playing. Textures just not being there or like a background snow effect on some road textures. Is this cause I'm playing on a SDTV or could it be my disc or system?

Well it definitely has nothing to do with playing in SD, resolution shouldn't affect anything like that

I dunno, I haven't played the game in a while but I don't remember any glitches like that. Might be your disc or system.

I have not had any glitches relating to textures, that sounds almost like a problem with the system or video memory in your 360, or the GPU itself.

However, I do get an occasional audio glitch (typically in the form of a static pop) in Forza 2. I use a digital optical cable connected to my stereo. Forza 2's the only game I own that does this, so I think it is a problem w/ the game itself.

I haven't checked the disc yet as I've been too busy playing it, but since it is just a rental I'd have to say it was the disk.

And I'm almost positive its not the system as its a halo 360 I got 2 weeks ago and haven't seen any issue with any other game. I just wanted to check and make sure it wasn't a wide spread issue.

so apparently the new DLC track (Yes track, singular) will be available for download next Friday. They wont say what track it is, and apparently its going to be revealed on a non-game website, whatever that means.

Sorry if this has been answered before but I was just initiated a few days ago (new 360 owner).

Is there a way to get music to play while I drive? I looked in the options but I didn't see it. What about custom soundtracks? I have a Zune, would be cool if I could play music off that while I played.

Press the guide button at any point when playing any game to use custom soundtracks, the music controls should be right there on the menu that pops up. You can rip CDs to the hard drive or hook up your Zune via USB.

I have to admit - I've secretly been underwhelmed with Forza Since I got it in July.

Now, I'm a huge fan of racing games and play the shit out of any/all I can get my hands on - but there's something lacking in Forza that I just can't put my finger on.

Maybe it's the presentation or few tracks or car choices, I don't know

    can anyone help?

Hey, I think the fact that Forza 2 screws 360 core users should be added to the OP.

The memory cards hold 64mb, of which about 12mb is held for system files. Forza requires no less then 37 megs of your remaining 52 for a save. Ridiculous, especially given most of my Xbox360 games have save files around 200 - 500kb.

Or you could spend 10 (Euro) more and get the official 512MB memory card.

They have too much competition. You've got PGR, Gran Turisimo, Burnout, and my favorite Flatout. You need to really shine as a racing game to stand out these days.

Fixed. Calling Burnout/Flatout competition for Forza is like calling Serious Sam competition for GRAW.

I really like the Forza series, but there were enough silly design decisions made that make the game somewhat annoying, from my perspective.

Just some of the gripes I have with the game:

The way they handle pitting is a big one. The fact that you can go into the pit with an all red car and spend the same amount of time as someone who has zero damage is bullshit. Being able to get a completely new engine and steering setup but not even having the option of fixing body damage is also kinda crazy. You can't have actual pit strategies like only getting a splash of fuel or running less than a full tank for short races, since they fix all non-body damage, change all your tires, and fill you up with a full fuel load when you stop.

The stupid way you can't choose an arbitrary number of laps in multiplayer games is really annoying.

New for Forza 2 is the hood view, but they left out a rearview mirror so I can't use it. Also the reflections from the hood view are distractingly bad. I really wish they would have had an option to disable them in exchange for maybe a rearview mirror.

The way the standings screen scrolls. There are only eight cars in the race. Show me all of them on one fucking screen.

Counting the New York that is in Forza 2 as two "ribbons" when I don't even consider that short ass version of it as a legitimate track in the first place. Having the pit in the Suzuka West configuration modeled but being unusable. Having asphalt runoff areas feeling like you are on ice. The shitty way they slow your car down in some of the turns in the game to try and keep people from cutting the track instead of trying to implement a system to disallow laps when you cut the track. The whole penalty time thing needs to go, especially the part where I get penalized for the fucking AI running into me.

The whole drive to be 60 FPS. Which is great in theory, but it cost 4 extra cars on track (which looks hilarious when compared to GT5's fucking demo having 16) and it isn't even a constant 60. It judders at the start or anytime there is a big wreck on the track. Look at PGR4 or even PGR3 and tell me that 30 FPS isn't fine. Also, why the fuck do the physics need to run at 360 Hz? Seriously, even half that would have been fine and maybe we could have gotten more cars on track.

Once you get late into the single player there are only about 9 tracks that are long enough for the fast cars, so it gets pretty repetitive.

All that said I still play it once a week with some friends.

Really though they are competition. Granted some lean more realistic and some more arcade they are still racing games. There are some gamers who only play one or the other, but the amount of people who either play both or don't care about the differences and just want a fun racing game is much greater than the former. To make money on any of those bigger budget racing games you have to sell to a market of considerable size.

I get the most enjoyment out of Forza by simply picking a car, a track, and trying to set fast laps on free run. I got a 1:07 around Road Atlanta. The top scores are in the 1:02 range. I don't see how I can cut another 5 seconds off of my laptimes considering I started in the 1:15 range.

Yeah, it'd be nice to get a track with some scenery for a change.

Then again, would they even integrate it into career mode? Because that's one of the things that's discouraging me from going back to Forza 2 for a bit -- I agree that the late-game, fast-car-centric portion gets pretty repetitive (the number of races where you have to drive either a Corvette or a Viper = ugh), as does the all-daylight-all-the-time itinerary. It's such a bastard that Forza 2 gets so many things right (customization, car selection, sim handling, opponent AI) but PGR4 makes it clear what it's sorely missing: environmental variety (remember Fujimi Kaido and the Alpine Ring? And night racing?), city racing (to hell with New York, bring back Rio and Tokyo -- I'd even be happy with the Pacific Shipyards) and cockpit view.

Got this and an xbox yesterday. Having played GT4 since release i have to say that i am very pleasantly surprised with forza 2... However, it could still be the OMG PRETTY making me overlook its flaws.

Road America's absence really sucks, it's a disappointment. I would like to have seen the Alpine Ring and Blue Mountain return, too. Or even better, instead of the Alpine Ring they bring in Spa Francorchamps.

Infineon, VIR, Mid Ohio, Gingerman, Watkins Glen, Barber, Willow Springs, there are so many other tracks to choose from just in the USA. Not to mention all the historic Euro tracks like Monza, Imola, Hockenheim, Magny Cours, La Sarthe, etc etc. The fictional "snake" tracks in Forza 2 were a big mistake.

I saw a used copy of this today at the place where I buy music and games for $25, but I passed it up to get Orange Box.

I think now that tracks are hitting DLC I might get it in the future, but that many points for Twin Ring Motegi is pretty damned steep I think. I understand it takes however many man hours to render a track, but it wouldn't be such a big deal to me if the game had shipped with a decent selection of tracks in the first place. It's one of the reasons I still prefer GT4 over the original Forza, since GT has such a huge tracklist.

That said, I'm considering picking it up this weekend if they still have that copy and then spending time re-creating all of my custom cars from the original. If you see a mid-90s black NSX with a giant shocker on the hood online sometime this week, that's probably me.

At any rate, it'll be nice having a group of people I can play with that I kind of know.
